TOWN OF WAPPINGER – A fire on the western end of Old Hopewell Road in Wappinger shut the roadway down to vehicular traffic while firefighters from multiple agencies battled the blaze. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes.
The original dispatch, just after 12 noon Sunday, was for an automatic smoke/fire alarm. First arriving emergency personnel reported smoke rising from the roof of the Cape Cod-style home and more equipment and personnel were requested to the scene.
At 1:30 p.m., firefighters had most of the flames knocked down.
No injuries to the residents or firefighters were reported.
The Red Cross provided financial assistance to the residents, including three children, ages 7, 11, and 12.
