CARMEL – A months-long investigation has ended when on New Year’s Day, Carmel Police announced the arrests of a Mahopac couple on 25 felony and misdemeanor counts of sale and possession of controlled substances.

Police Chief Anthony Hoffmann identified the suspects as Omar Miles 46, and 33-year-old Samantha Dekrell, both, of Union Valley Road.

Hoffmann said the investigation began last fall when a Carmel Police patrol officer, while responding to an unrelated call, received a complaint about alleged narcotics sales occurring from the residence. “The officer passed the information to Carmel Police detectives, who immediately initiated an investigation, collaborating with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office

Narcotics Enforcement Unit and the Westchester/Putnam FBI Safe Streets Task Force.

Throughout the investigation, law enforcement officers gathered a significant amount of evidence showing that the pair was dealing crack cocaine in and around their residence. This provided more than sufficient cause to obtain search and arrest warrants, culminating in the arrests of both individuals,” said the chief.

Seized items included a large amount of cash, quantities of narcotics consistent with crack cocaine and paraphernalia associated with drug sale and distribution.

The two suspects face a combined total of 15 felony counts and 10 misdemeanor counts related to the criminal possession and sale of controlled substances.

The pair was arraigned in Carmel Town Court with Dekrell being released to appear at a future court date while Miles was remanded to the Putnam County Jail pending a bail hearing.

Anyone with additional information regarding narcotics activity in the greater Carmel-Mahopac area is asked to police headquarters at 845-628-1300.”
