A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck near Yakutat, Alaska, on Thursday, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake occurred at a depth of approximately 9 kilometers, or about 5.6 miles, the agency said. No immediate reports of damage or injuries were released following the tremor.
Yakutat, a remote coastal community in southern Alaska, lies within one of the most seismically active regions in the United States, where earthquakes are relatively common due to tectonic plate movement.
USGS officials said monitoring of aftershocks and seismic activity in the area is ongoing.
