China military conducted a live drill around disputed Taiwan land arousing fear and tension. The aggressive move by China took place following the US’s arms sales announcements.

China after the drilling stated, this move was “a stern warning” against ‘Taiwan Independence’ separatist forces and external interference.” (Taiwan separatist groups are fighting for total independence from China.)

Taiwan’s Defense Ministry condemned the aggression of China in a statement.

The Taiwan Defense Minister website says that 2 sorties of PLA aircraft, 9  PLAN ships and 2 official ships operating around Taiwan were detected as of  6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. ROC Armed Forces have monitored the situation and employed CAP aircraft, Navy ships, and coastal missile systems in response to detected activities.

The Taiwan issue with China is a complex and sensitive topic

China claims Taiwan as part of its territory, while Taiwan sees itself as an independent country. This dispute has led to ongoing tensions between the two, with China asserting its claim through military drills and diplomatic pressure.

Recently, China’s Consul General in Osaka, Xue Jian, sparked controversy with a post on social media saying “the dirty head that sticks itself in must be cut off” in response to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s remarks on Taiwan after she talked about supporting Taiwan. This comment was seen as a threat to behead the Japanese PM and led to Japan summoning China’s ambassador to protest.

Taiwan has several separatist groups advocating for independence from China. Some notable groups include:

Taiwanese Localism Front (TLF): A secret society formed in 2016, aiming to resist China’s influence and promote Taiwan’s self-determination.

Taiwan Independence Party: A political party established in 1996, seeking to establish a sovereign and independent Taiwan.

Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU): A political party formed in 2001, advocating for Taiwan’s independence and sovereignty.

Black Bear Academy (Kuma Academy): A group accused of promoting “Taiwan independence” and anti-China ideologies, particularly among young people.
