The Holidays season is not only the season of celebrations, it’s also a period of slowing down and going back into hunting mode of unique seasonal finds through the Time Machine of entertainment productions. Every find has a special kind of warmth that lingers into one’s body and soul, something that can even be identical to the joy of the taste of a warm tomato soap and grilled cheese on a rainy day.
“Finding You”, is one of the hidden gems that was released back in 2021, it’s an awakening daydream for not only the viewers, but the characters too. The journey taken through the Irish towns and the warmth that such a Celtic ambiance brings, is an experience of a lifetime. It’s something that is felt deep through the emotional and spiritual journey of the characters through the screen.
Just like the viewers are landing on this movie to escape and retreat, both leading characters, Finley and Beckett are escaping something of their own reality too. Finley is a violinist who is starting up her career and trying to find a solid base between her profession and her reality of getting over the grieving phase of her brother through a college semester abroad. On the other hand there’s Beckett, a famous actor who is trying to spend his time in Ireland focusing on his movie while having minimum to no publicity at all. However, when destiny decides to intervene, there’s no going back to square one or even have a say to what the universe has hidden for you. Both characters came in with a purpose, without putting the romantic chemistry on the line, and that led avoidance be the pulling string for them both, despite being accommodated in the same place. But as they both have their own demons to fight for and over, their stories seemed to align and ease whenever their paths crossed, finding comfort and solace with and through each other.
Going around Ireland and exploring the authentic Celtic tradition and mythology is not as hard as it seems when you have a notebook created by a beloved one to follow. Finley’s journey starts with touring places her brother visited when he was in Ireland, all through the guidance of the notebook he left, that are filled with sketches of his favorite places and sites. And that was the first step towards building a strong foundation between Finley and Beckett, with him being her tour guide, and her being the tourist who gave in to accomplish her goal of visiting all the sites sketched in the notebook.
But every destination is a story that brought the mythology of the past back to life, marking the lovely plot of the movie with chronicles s that made up every site and scene to be felt and loved. Finley and Becket’s chemistry was filled with tension and compassion, something that was not easy to overcome and follow throughout the movie as every step towards building up their story and happily ever after through the destinations Ireland provides, turns into a life-threatening scene of a hard decision ready to be made. A decision that would alter the whole story and the viewers expectations of what would come next for the leading characters.
This film is a capsule of hidden tender moments that encompassed every emotion a movie lover would want to experience through the screen. It’s Joyful smiles, sad tears, warmth of friends and family, and even laughter to ease the hard moments. All came in together and provided an unforgettable story of what love is. The romantic partnerships, the broken connection between sisters, and even the friendships and bonds that are made with strangers who don’t seem to be friendly enough.
It’s the Celtic Spirit charming the viewers and visitor all at once.
Under the magic spell of Irish music and dance, romantic connections were made, lessons were learned and experiences were shared. It’s an umbrella filled with shared journeys of love in all its aspects. Love of family, friends, and even partners whom you never thought would be part of your life. Those kind of connections are what teaches us the importance of enjoying every moment and aspect of life, through the highs and lows, you’ve got others to share this experience with. And when the time comes for a change of heart and you find yourself falling head over heels without even noticing it, then take on the lead and follow your heart.
Whether it was the Irish charm, or the storyline that brought viewers together under this new world of fantasy and love, it is an extraordinary combination of stories and lessons that leaves one with a heart full of hope for the future. The directing team and the writers excelled in choosing the characters as they are, for their own experiences and inner battles not only clarified their course of life to find themselves and the meaning behind living, but they found each other too !
