Former Vice President Kamala Harris is positioning herself as a leading contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, according to most primary polls, despite her loss to President Donald Trump in both the Electoral College and the popular vote in the last election. Polling continues to show Harris maintaining strong support among Black American voters.

According to Axios, Democratic Party insiders say Harris’ recent activity surrounding her book tour suggests she is laying the groundwork for another White House bid. Harris recently announced additional stops for her tour promoting 107 Days, a memoir chronicling her abbreviated presidential campaign. Planned appearances in early 2026 include South Carolina, a pivotal early primary state, as well as cities with large Black voter populations such as Detroit, Jackson, Memphis, and Montgomery.

During the Democratic National Committee’s winter meeting in Los Angeles, Harris addressed party officials and, alongside her husband Doug Emhoff, mingled with national and state party leaders. Those appearances, combined with her expanded travel schedule, have intensified speculation about her intentions.

In remarks delivered Friday, Harris adopted a sharper tone toward Washington, criticizing both parties and characterizing Trump as “a symptom” of broader systemic failures. She said public confidence in government has eroded and argued that voters are increasingly frustrated with entrenched political norms.

“Both parties have failed to hold the public’s trust,” Harris said, adding that Americans are prepared to disrupt a system they believe no longer serves them. She later warned against “being nostalgic for a flawed system that failed so many.”

At one point during her speech, as Harris spoke about “the future,” an audience member shouted, “You!” drawing attention to the ongoing speculation.

Harris spokesperson Kirsten Allen said the former vice president plans to approach 2026 with a continued focus on listening to voters and assessing where leadership has fallen short, while helping shape what comes next beyond the current political moment.

Harris is also scheduled to make a late-night television appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! next week, further extending her public visibility as questions about her political future continue to grow.
