Kevin Gaspar

GOSHEN – A 19-year-old Newburgh man who fired an illegally possessed gun at a group of students outside Newburgh Free Academy on South Street in the City of Newburgh, has been sentenced in Orange County Court to nine years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.

Kevin Gaspar had previously pled guilty to criminal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced on December 2.

It was alleged that on January 14 at about 2:20 p.m., he was at the NFA campus. A group of students started a fight with him and before it broke up, they walked away. Gaspar ran toward the group and fired several shots, narrowly missing them.

The  gun was later recovered by the police in two separate pieces, discarded in leaves and brush.
