GOSHEN- Now that the Orange County Legislature has given its final approval to County Executive Steven Neuhaus’ 2026 budget, he is expected to sign it in the next few days.
The unanimously approved the $1.05 billion spending plan, lowering the county tax rate to $2.013 per $1,000 of assessed value, the lowest since the 1960s, according to Neuhaus.
Budget Director Deborah Slesinski said the plan prioritizes “fiscal responsibility” and maintains essential services, and Chamber of Commerce President Heather Bell credited Neuhaus for supporting local businesses. Both echoed Neuhaus’s sentiments on the budget, stating, “The county’s 2026 budget once again shows steadfast stewardship of taxpayer dollars.”
The budget also includes $7 million in projected hotel-occupancy tax revenue for 2026.
Legislature Chairman Kevin Hines called the budget “meaningful tax relief.”
The budget takes effect January 1.
