Journalist and YouTuber Tyler Oliveira released a short-form documentary on Saturday focusing on the large Somali immigrant community in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a city often referred to as “Little Mogadishu” because it is home to more than 100,000 Somali-born residents and their families.
Oliveira’s film, “Inside Minneapolis’ Somali Invasion”, explores how the Somali population has shaped Minneapolis since the 1990s through cultural, economic, and political growth, while also addressing recent controversies and criminal cases tied to members of the community.

More than 70 defendants have been charged in connection with the case.
A related discussion circulated widely on social media following the release, including this post on X.
Oliveira’s coverage features interviews with residents and local officials, depicting contrasting perspectives on immigration, accountability, and community integration in Minnesota. The city remains one of the largest hubs of Somali migration in the United States.
