WASHINGTON, D.C. — Egypt intensified its efforts to attract American investment this week as the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) expanded its U.S. roadshow in Washington, meeting with major corporations, financial institutions, and policy organizations to strengthen industrial cooperation and advance new strategic partnerships.
The mission gained strong support from the National Bank of Egypt’s New York leadership, with Khaled El Ghorab, General Manager of NBE–New York, reinforcing the bank’s essential role in building investor confidence and facilitating secure cross-border financing for U.S. companies exploring opportunities inside SCZone. The bank’s presence in the United States continues to serve as a central financial bridge for Egypt–U.S. economic collaboration.
During the Washington engagements, SCZone leadership held strategic discussions with global healthcare giant Merck on potential cooperation in localizing pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and biotherapeutics within the zone’s industrial areas — a key priority in Egypt’s push to expand advanced life-science manufacturing.

SCZone representatives also participated in a high-level roundtable hosted by McLarty Associates, joined by officials from SpaceX, Lucid Motors, Eurasia Group, Continental Strategy, and the Middle East Institute. The discussions highlighted SCZone’s integrated industrial-port ecosystem, its strategic geographic location, and its roadmap for localizing 21 targeted sectors across manufacturing, logistics, and services.
At a separate session organized by DLA Piper, the delegation presented SCZone’s investor-ready platform, showcasing competitive incentives, modern infrastructure, utilities readiness, energy availability, and skilled labor — all contributing to the zone’s growing appeal as a global industrial destination.
Strong interest from U.S. corporations was evident during a high-profile meeting at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, attended by representatives from Caterpillar, Bechtel, Citi Bank, CMA CGM, and others. SCZone officials outlined the zone’s accelerated port development, enhanced logistics capabilities, and ongoing digital transformation in customs and single-window systems that have bolstered investor confidence.
Food security and logistics also featured prominently in the discussions, including a meeting with Blumberg Grain to explore new grain silos at East Port Said Port and expanded cold-chain storage capacity. The company confirmed an upcoming visit to Egypt next week to advance preparations.
Egypt’s delegation emphasized that SCZone’s world-class ports, advanced industrial zones, competitive incentives, and strategic access to global markets position it as one of the most attractive destinations for companies seeking expansion across the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
