Nov 4, 2026
Meanwhile, in the Yukon,
the search for a missing 53-year-old man is entering its fourth week.
Gerald James Balmforth was last seen near Whitehorse on October 13th.
Now, search crews are calling
for more volunteers amid questions about the police response.
TJ Deer reports.
Gerald James Bomfirth was last seen
in the Takini River subdivision on October 13th.
The RCMP say he's 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 249 pounds.
Police also say he has short brown hair,
a light complexion and green eyes.
Police say he was last seen wearing a black and
yellow slash neon green motorcycle jacket,
blue jeans, a white hoodie and flip-flops.
The Mounties add that he has
a distinctive infinity tattoo on his right forearm.
Teams of people are searching for Bomfirth
in the Takini River subdivision.
Police are using a helicopter and drone teams to help with the search.
Community members and land guardians with the Champagne
and Aishka First Nations are also helping,
along with Yukon Search and Rescue.
The search coordinator says about 35 people came out to help today
and the search response is getting better every day.
They're encouraging more people to come out and help.
They're also asking those who don't want to search to come out
and support those who are.
One participant in the search told CBC News people
are upset with the police response.
They said the police haven't obtained Bomfirth's
phone records since he was last seen.
The Mounties say their focus remains
on doing everything they can to locate Bomfirth.
The RCMP are asking Takini River residents
to check their properties and outbuildings.
Anyone with information on Bomforth's
whereabouts are asked to call police.
Those willing to help with the search can contact
the coordinator at 867-334-5695
or drop by the Taeni Community Hall.
