This chair was in excellent condition just
in need of a refresh to the seat and frame.
Start by removing the seat cushion from the frame.
It's most likely attached with four screws
which can be easily removed. Now prepare the frame.
If it's in good shape you'll just need
to clean it up. This is essential for a smooth
and even finish when you apply the paint.
Now you're ready to paint.
You can stain it, brush it, or use spray paint.
Place your fabric printed side down on your work surface
and make sure that the pattern is oriented
in the direction you want to see when the cushion is covered.
Place the cushion padded side down
on the fabric and cut the excess fabric away leaving three
to four inches on all sides.
Working with one side at a time, pull the center of the fabric over
and place one staple about one
to two inches in from the edge into secure.
Repeat this on the remaining three sides, pulling tightly each time.
Now go back around and continue the staples from the centers out,
stopping each time just before you reach the corners.
At each corner, snip in about an inch on each side,
cutting just into the loose fabric
so you don't go too close to the seam.
That frees up a center flap. Pull it over and staple it down.
Then fold the sides in over it,
tucking them into a neat pleat and staple.
Trim away the extra.
There's no right or wrong way to do this,
just make sure that you match the pleats so that the
corners look identical when you're through.
You can now apply your second coat of paint
using the same continuous spraying motion you used for the first coat.
Let this dry overnight.
Reattach the seat cushion to the frame
and enjoy your beautiful, like new, chair.
