AI GeneratedThe Buffalo Bills secured a thrilling 37-34 overtime victory against the Los Angeles Rams. Despite a slow start from Josh Allen and several critical mistakes, including fumbles by James Cook, a game-saving blocked field goal by Greg Russo allowed the Bills to win. This marks a significant milestone as Josh Allen's first overtime win in his career.
Oh my goodness. What in the world did we just witness?
That was an instant classic in Los
Angeles. And the best part is the Bills actually won.
We never win games like these. And you know
what? They tried. They really tried their hardest to blow this one too.
But by some miracle, the
Bills came out on top. I cannot believe it.
There is so much to talk about. So welcome in everybody
to Bills Digest I'm Ben Volker

if you are as fired up and as excited after
that win leave a go Bills in the comments and let me
know how excited you are about this win let's jump right
into things here because what just
to happen in Los Angeles is absolutely crazy
the Bills won by a final score of 37 to 34
in overtime that's right an overtime win
in the Josh Allen era can you believe it maybe things
are finally starting to actually change
and I think this probability chart here from ESPN really
sums it up the best it was pretty it
was a pretty normal game going into the fourth quarter but then
everything changed you can see those big swings
the Bills the the black spikes at the top the
Rams the big blue spike at the bottom
and we were going to dive right into this because look going
into the fourth quarter like I said
this was a relatively normal game I the Bills were winning
19 to 15 but I was talking I was talking
with my dad I said well he said actually he said this
game's gonna end up in the 30s
and I was like yeah yeah it is because it's the Bills and the Rams and
Of course, that's exactly what happened,
because in the fourth quarter, fireworks erupted.
This was every drive of the fourth quarter, which ended in a touchdown.
The Rams marched down the field, took the lead, Rams touchdown.
Bills did the same thing.
Rams, right back.
And then the Bills, methodically for once, marched down the field.
It was great.
Clock management, for the most part,
got them within the two-minute warning.
everything was looking good and then they scored a touchdown
and then the Rams came right back and
tied it up and sent us to overtime
but let's focus on that second Bills touchdown drive here because
I'm curious what you guys think about this decision
from James Cook to score the touchdown
here it looks like on the broadcast
that Joe Brady wasn't very happy about it but honestly
in the moment I do think that this was the right call you don't know
if you're going to make the
field goal you have to take the points
while the points are there and hope and hope and hope that
your defense can make a stop obviously the defense could
not make a stop the rams marched right down
the field and scored immediately
and but in in the moment i thought that it was the right call
because like i said who knows where you're gonna get
those points take the touchdown and the worst
the rams can do is tie it up
but of course the rams did exactly that matthew stafford hook and
Puka Nacua, Devontae Adams. They marched down
the field right down to the two-yard line and gave it to
Kyron Williams to punch it in for a touchdown
and of course send this game into overtime and
everybody everybody in Bills Mafia we know overtime has
not been a specialty for this team
in the Josh Allen era but they got the ball.
They were marching down the field and then you can see
it there the James Cook fumble man man man
that was when I thought this is it it's just like every
other every other year McDermott it doesn't matter
if he's not there he's haunting us Josh Allen does
everything he can and everybody else finds a way
to blow it once again obviously we know that that
did not happen the Bills ended up winning this game
but in the moment it was very very dire
So the Rams, of course, march down the field.
It looks like they are going to set up the game.
Winning field goal outcomes there.
Big boy kicker Harrison Mevis.
Enter Greg Russo, baby.
Blocked kick.
Saves the game for the Bills.
Gives them another chance.
I could not believe this.
We never get these breaks.
We never, ever, ever get these breaks.
But for once, for once, for once, things went the Bills' way.
Can you believe it?
It is absolutely insane to me
that Greg Russo was able to block this kick.
Now, if you do watch the play,
I do think that Mevis was going to shank the kick in slow motion.
It looked like that thing was headed way in the wrong direction.
but Greg Russo got his fingers on it and blocked the kick
and gave the Bills another chance so
they marched down the field
and bring in Tyler Bass at the two-minute warning now this is where
I was getting a little nervous because it was second
and ten they definitely could have run
the clock down a little bit more just
in case Tyler Bass missed the field goal because look
The defense could not stop anybody.
That is very abundantly clear.
And we're probably going to talk about
that a lot more throughout the week.
But for now, we are keeping it positive
because we won and the vibes are high.
So the defense will get a slight pass for now.
But it was a two-minute warning.
We were all thinking, you got to run down the clock.
At least run two more plays.
It's second down.
Run down the clock.
The Rams were out of timeouts.
you can bring this thing down
so even if even if Tyler Bass misses the field goal we can at least
try to get out of there with a tie nope Joe Brady
brings out Tyler Bass and he nails it all of this
all this just this entire game these are these are where
the Bills lose in previous years this
was so reminiscent of last year's Broncos playoff game it
was so reminiscent of the 13 the dreaded
13 seconds game that's really the one
that was very reminiscent I'm sure all of you guys were
thinking that too and everybody knows what happened
at the end of that game the Bills ended up losing
in overtime and look Josh Allen the entire first half
was not good I believe he had only four
completions for 60 yards
and 40 of those yards came on a Ty Johnson screen but he put on the
cape when it mattered he certainly did let's go
ahead pull up Josh Allen's stats here you can see
those 210 passing yards he really locked
in uh passing touchdown to Keon Coleman Keon getting
in the end zone once again
and then it's those rushing numbers that really really pop out
another rushing touchdown five straight games with a rushing touchdown
and 121 rushing yards
are you kidding me yeah the Rams could not stop the run
and that was a big big key to the Bills
winning this game let's go ahead pull up James Cook's numbers here
because look take away the
fumble that he had James Cook had
a phenomenal game 20 carries 113 rushing yards and two rushing
touchdowns when you've got Josh Allen
and James Cook operating on a high level this team is hard
to beat although the defense has tried
to really really prove them wrong on that front but yeah
let's talk about James Cook
because there was one more fumble earlier in the game was recovered by
the Bills but it made you think oh man James Cook he's got he's got
a fumble problem and he needs to
get under the under control
because he's such a good running back you can see the stats on the
screen right there we know what he is capable
of but it's the fumbles it's the costly fumbles
that's what we were thinking after the first James Cook fumble
that was recovered and then he fumbles
again and Aaron Donald recovers it of course
so look I'm trying to keep it positive but we got to
get those fumbles under control James Cook
because he is such a good running back when he doesn't
fumble but we're keeping it positive here
because Josh Allen wins his first ever game in overtime I
can't believe year nine and he's only now winning his first ever game
but look the team this is what
Josh Allen said after the game.
The team, they kept fighting and we found a way to win. They
certainly did. Josh Allen gets his first overtime win.
The Bills outslug the Rams and it just feels
so good. It's like a big, big weight lifted off
our shoulders that the Bills won a game in overtime
and maybe, maybe, maybe it means that things
are finally starting to change in Buffalo. Yes,
there was a lot to improve on from this game
but at the end of the day the Bills are four and one
they are still in first place in the AFC East
and they've got a massive win over the Rams under
but we'll be dissecting everything else about
this game throughout the week so make sure
to keep an eye on that and we will
also be previewing the Raiders later on the week so
keep your eye out for that keep it right here
on Bills Digest for more Bills content as always
Thanks for watching, and of course, Go Bills!
