The game was characterized by a complete offensive failure and a defensive collapse, leading to concerns that the team is already out of playoff contention. The analyst highlights a lack of coaching effectiveness and a total inability to compete in the trenches.
This was a disaster for the New York Jets.
They fell to the Chicago Bears yesterday by a score of 23 to 12,
but the score was not really that close.
The Jets were dominated from start to finish, could never amount anything on offense,
and Aaron Glenn looked thoroughly outcoached in a season in which the team is now 1-3
and looks apparently likely to be out of the mix for the playoffs again well before Halloween.
What's going on, guys? I'm Josh Byrne. You're tuned into Jets Digest.
Guys, thank you for all the support so far this season through these first four weeks.

Now, yesterday to me was a must-win, okay?
Because you're 1-2, you lose these two brutal games,
and you're facing a backup quarterback with a chance to,
despite the negativity of the two straight losses,
move back to 2-2 in time to go back home and face the Cleveland Browns,
who are doing better, by the way, but they're still the Browns.
And unfortunately, the Jets are still the Jets, which none of us want to hear, but it's true.
And when you look at the score yesterday, 23-12, did it really feel that close?
It felt like it was 43-12.
I mean, that was about as unenjoyable of a game as I remember ever watching,
and I've seen a lot of terrible Jets games, as have, I'm sure, all of you.
And Geno Smith, for as good as he's been this season,
yesterday was the first time where he looked skittish.
He looked scared, overly conservative, trying not to throw an interception.
But can you blame him?
Because the offensive line didn't do him any favors.
But certainly, he did not play well.
But to me, the biggest reason the Jets lost this game looked no further than Aaron Glenn.
And this was a big year for Aaron Glenn.
I've talked about it.
The Jets needed to prove that they were significantly better.
They made a lot of major changes in the offseason.
One being him calling the defensive plays.
And the defense through the first two and a half games of the season looked much improved.
But they couldn't stop a nosebleed against Detroit in the second half last week.
And yesterday, they couldn't stop a nosebleed once the whistle blew to start the game.
And now you look at it, the Jets are not in last place,
but they are one in three, as you won't see from that graphic because it's not coming up.
But they're thoroughly out of the mix.
And things are going to have to change drastically for this team to turn their fortunes around.
And there's going to be more games.

That's the Otis Edge.
The Jets had no edge yesterday.
You look at the numbers for Geno, they were fine.
But again, I mean, he completed eight passes.
They weren't fine.
They were terrible.
And 58 of those 119 yards came on one play where the team was down by three scores.
Tyson Pagent looked really good.
He didn't look like a backup quarterback, that's for sure.
Yeah, he threw the pick and he could have had four, by the way.
But three interceptions, three were called back due to penalties.
Have you ever seen that before?
I haven't.
And it wasn't just Pagent.
The real reason the Jets lost and the real reason they couldn't
hold this Bears team at all was the running game.
The Jets got thoroughly dominated in the trenches,
both offensively and defensively, and especially defensively.
We knew that Bears offensive line was good, but boy, did they have a day.
Holy smokes, Kyle Mnungai could not be stopped.
And can you believe that every single game this season,
Kyle Mnungai and DeAndre Swift have combined for over 200 yards rushing.
Kyle Mnungai was a man possessed, and the Jets had no answers for him.
And when you look at this, I mean, DeAndre Swift, they basically said,
Hey, you're good.
It's Mnungai's day.
And for the Jets, I mean, they only ran the ball 15 times
because they were trying to get something going.
They fell behind early because not only could the Bears run the ball,
but Pagent was spreading the ball across the field to everybody.
Roma Dunze finally woke up.
Colston Loveland actually had a good game.
And when you look at the Jets offense for the short time that they are out there,
I mean, I spoke about Kenyon Sadiq being the key to this game.
He did nothing.
So it makes sense that the Jets offense did nothing.
And Garrett Wilson had three catches.
Aaron Glenn was asked about it.
He said, on why these guys did nothing, why they got them the ball.
Zilchnada, he said, that's a good question.
We'll have to go look at the tape to see why.
We have to find a way to get them the ball.
I mean, it really is.
Yes, the Jets ended their interception streak.
Yippity-doo-dah.
By the way, how embarrassing was it?
The first time they get an interception on the first interception that was called back,
the entire team is celebrating in the end zone.
And has no idea it's called back.
And we have to watch Fox show them celebrating.
And their teammates are starting to say, hey guys, get back to the line.
This is getting called back.
Typical Jets.
But yeah, credit Minka Fitzpatrick for the interception.
But on offense again, Kenyon Sadiq.
I don't know how much blame you can put on him or Frank Reich.
Probably mostly on Frank Reich, Aaron Glenn.
They were thoroughly outcoached.
And Devin Bush, this was embarrassing too.
He said that this was one of the easiest NFL games he's ever played in.
He's not sore at all.
Why?
Because the Bears offense had the ball for 42 minutes.
There's 60 minutes of the game.
They had the ball for 42 of them.
Isaiah Davis was not used.
Braylon Allen looked good, actually, running the ball.
But he didn't run the ball very much.
14 carries, 59 yards.
And now you look ahead for the New York Jets at their schedule.
And they got the Browns coming up.
That's a must win.
They have to win that.
If they lose that game, you're talking about another 3-4 win season.
And Aaron Glenn is not surviving that.
Then they have the Patriots, who woke up yesterday in a big way against Buffalo.
And the Dolphins, who you'd like to think should be a safe win.
But I have no idea.
Because through the first few weeks of this season, the Jets looked like an improved group.
And Aaron Glenn was getting praise.
And now all of a sudden, yesterday looked like a 20-25 performance.
Very concerning.
Uncompetitive.
And the team is 1-3.
An out-and-out disaster for the Jets.
Let me know what you guys think about the season, about the Jets' performance yesterday,
and where they go from here.

Let me know.
And as always, guys, let's go Jets.
