This signing would make the Winnipeg Jets elite.
In this video, we're going to break down why the Winnipeg Jets should go out and sign Patrick
Lane, talk about some of the pros, some of the cons, and just talk about how adding him
might actually push us over the edge into getting back into the playoffs.
So you guys aren't going to miss this episode of Winnipeg Jets Digest before we dive into
everything here.

But yes, today we are talking about a familiar face in Patrick Lane, who is still looking
for a home early on in the season, has not been signed, and I think the Winnipeg Jets
reunion with Patrick Lane would be great for both him and the team, and we're going to
talk about that in this video, so let's dive right into it.
Let's waste no time and talk about Patrick Lane, and here we go.
As Patrick Lane offers Winnipeg a scoring spark, for sure.
And I definitely think that obviously getting Patrick Lane in would be great, he's a cheap
option for this team, which we're going to talk about in just a bit, but back in 24-25,
last season he was injured, only had one point up on the board, but in 24-25, we kind of
seen a resurgence from Patrick Lane in that season, he had 20 goals, which was in the
top 13% across the league, he ended up with 33 points that year, he also had 19 powerplay
points for the Montreal Canadiens that year, averaging almost 15 minutes a night, he was
looking good, right?
14 minutes on ice a night, he scored 20 goals, he looked like the Patrick Lane we all know
and love, right?
The guy who can go out there, set up in his spot, put the one-timers in the back of the
net and just be that big body that can push people off the puck, and just have that amazing
shot, one of the best shots in the league in my opinion, this is a guy who I think would
be a perfect addition for this Winnipeg Jets team going forward, but obviously there's
other teams calling on him right now, and maybe the Jets might be a little bit too late
to get him, but I don't think so, I don't think if he's not signed right now, I think
he's still open for business, and I think he would rather come somewhere familiar for
him, obviously Detroit and LA are calling, but I do think Winnipeg does have a better
team than both of these other teams, so I think he would be interested in coming to
Winnipeg and maybe making a full circle moment, trying to bring a cup to Winnipeg here this
season, which would be great, and obviously we know Patrick Laine very well, he is a great
player, he is a guy kind of like Ovechkin, who gets in his spot when he's in his spot,
he can put him in the back of the net with ease, once he gets in that left circle, he's
an amazing player and has an amazing shot, and I definitely think that he's a guy who
would really revamp our offense going forward, and a guy who I would really like to see on
Winnipeg, so let's just talk about the reunion case, why Winnipeg should call Patrick Laine,
they had a right shot finishing threat, they keep draft picks and prospects, and they offer
a fresh start in familiar surroundings for Patrick Laine, and that's the thing here,
like Patrick Laine, he's kind of bounced around a bit since leaving Winnipeg, and hasn't really
found his footing anywhere, and the place that he had his best years of his career was
in Winnipeg, so why not go to Winnipeg, come to a familiar home, and come back to where
it all started, and try to win a Stanley Cup for this organization, I think that would
really entice him to come here, be played with some players that he's already played
with, some new ones as well, so I really like why we should get Patrick Laine, I think obviously
you get him basically for nothing at this point, and you know he's a guy who can come
in and maybe if he scores you 10, you know 15 goals, you're happy with it, you're happy
with that acquisition for sure, so I definitely like that as well, and obviously Adam Lowry
the captain, he said a need after last season was adding more scoring depth, and bringing
in Patrick Laine does add more scoring depth to this roster, you know because he just has
such a good shot, that's the thing that's most attractive about Laine, I know he has
injuries, and you know that's a big question mark around him, but I think the shot that
he has, that he possesses, is way more of an attractive quality than everything else
that he does have, and it just overpowers the bad sides of getting Patrick Laine, because
his shot is so, so good, one of the best in the league, Austin Matthews, who probably
has one of the best shots in the league, said that he thinks Patrick Laine's shot is elite,
so you know, I think that bringing him in would be a good option, and Winnipeg must
give Patrick Laine a clear role for sure, obviously you have to kind of define his role
within this lineup, kind of show where he would go, and obviously a second line trial
with Bjork and Valerdi is where I want to start, I think obviously having them with
Vigo and Gabriel Valerdi would be great, because obviously Vigo Bjork, he's a great
passer, he's a great playmaker, having two set up guys like Valerdi and Patrick Laine
on his line, I would really give him a great first year in this league, and I definitely
think having him up there would be great, and obviously if he comes up on this second
line, doesn't play up to par, then you know you're dropping back down, bring Roseanne
back up, have him on the third line, probably move Ship Barron to the fourth line, maybe
he plays his off wing on the right on the third line or something like this, but I definitely
think bringing in Laine is definitely a great option, obviously power play shooting, option
from the left circle as well, a guy who can come in, revamp this power play as well, get
him in his spot, try to find him, you have great playmakers on this power play, so you
have two great scoring options like Connor and Laine here, who have the right and left
circle covered, and you can't cover all these guys, and the power play would just really
benefit with having two finishers on it, and obviously agree on puck retrieval and defensive
duties as well, back checking, just being a threat in the neutral zone for disrupting
passes and stuff like this, I think Patrick Laine does definitely bring that to the table,
and obviously the line up trade off would have to be Roseanne, would have to slide down,
wouldn't have much of a role in this line up, obviously you keep earning minutes on
five on five as well for Patrick Laine, obviously he's better on the power play, but I think
he could be very successful on this five on five as well, like we said, the last season
we seen him healthy was 24-25, and he had a great resurgence year, and I definitely
think if he's healthy, could really help this Winnipeg Jets team going forward, and I really
do like adding Patrick Laine to be honest with you, and obviously Winnipeg can keep
a Laine deal short term, they have lots of cap space right now, if we just take a look,
you know they have about 13 million in space, so bringing in Laine, you could even sign
him to a one year deal, he's eligible for bonuses, so have a contract with a bunch of
bonuses on it, say a 20 goal bonus, a reach the playoffs bonus, a win the Stanley Cup
bonus, we have these bonuses on the contract that maybe bring that AAV up to like 6-7 million
dollars if he does complete these bonuses, and then that will go on the cap next season,
and if he completes these bonuses, the team is just going to be better, and you'll be
willing to pay that cap next year if he does complete the bonuses this year, so I definitely
think that's another attractive quality about bringing Patrick Laine back home to Winnipeg
as well, obviously approach a one year deal, commit at a modest guaranteed salary, maybe
around 1 million with bonuses, maybe bring him up to 2 with bonuses because of how much
cap space you have, obviously you have a role to agree before signing, kind of say hey we're
thinking about putting you on the second line, playing more power play, but if this doesn't
work, you're going to be playing third line, you might have some nights up in the press
box as well, so you're going to have to talk about him with that, but I think at this point
he'd be willing to just sign anywhere, and obviously health and conditioning is first,
obviously being off all last season with an injury does have a bit of concern with Patrick
Laine obviously, but he did come out after last season saying he is fully healthy, so
you know, who knows, we could see a good year for Laine, obviously it keeps Winnipeg's draft
capital prospect pool and flexibility for other needs that they're going to need this
season if they want to make the playoffs, so that's a great part of this deal, also
you need Laine to make Winnipeg his preferred destination to make this happen, a salary
acceptable for both sides, which I think would be easy to do for Kevin Chevelle D'off at
this point, with obviously the way the hello box situation is, we don't really have a lot
of cap space to work with, and an active roster opening which I think we do have on that left
side with Viggo Bjork and Valerdi, and I think he would be lethal there with both of these
guys playing with him on these lines, and obviously Patrick Laine must first prove he
can stay available, and you know, like I just mentioned, this is the quote from Patrick
Laine talking about, you know, he did have the green light last year, yes, to come back
in in the playoffs for the Montreal Canadiens, unfortunately they just didn't want to bring
him back into this lineup, so he is ready to go, he has the green light, he is fully
healthy, has a clean bill of health, had all off season to kind of get ready and get, you
know, ready in the game shape, and I definitely think he's ready to be there, obviously we
would have to do an assessment first before signing, but I do think that he would be ready
to go, and I don't think that's really an issue, the issue is kind of, you know, not
getting injured again, right, and we kind of look at how he ended in 24-25, he was getting
like, you know what, like 4 or 5 points a game, or not a game, but you know, over the
last 10 games here you see on this list, he had 4 goals, and he also had 5 games where
he had points in it, so you know, I do kind of like the consistency that we've kind of
seen out of Laine in those last games, obviously in the last 5 games of the season he didn't
have any points, but I definitely think getting him into this lineup, playing with a young
guy like Viggo Bjork and Gabe Velarde would definitely ramp up his production for sure,
and then obviously, you know, what could derail this reunion would be another extended absence
for him, missing time, which we wouldn't want to see, hopefully that wouldn't happen, obviously
he's too low production at even strength, you know, I don't think that would be an issue,
I think obviously from the latest, what we've seen out of Patrick Laine, he's been good,
so I don't have concern about that at all, and a role that neither side accepts, so you
know, I don't think that's an issue either, I think if we're signing Patrick Laine, we
know what we're getting him for, we know he's going to be a depth scorer, any team is going
to add him as a depth scorer, unless it's like a non-playoff team, and I think he wants
to play on a playoff team, and I think coming back to Winnipeg and a familiar surrounding
would give him that opportunity as well, so you know, I kind of like that for sure, and
you know, how does this help us, how does this help us, our playoff push, you get more
finishing in tight games, additional power play threat, less dependence on one scoring
line, and a reunion that could energize the crowd for sure, I know I'd be fired up, you
know, breaking out your Patrick Laine jersey again, seeing him back from Winnipeg, I know
a lot of fans would really want to see him back, obviously, you know, towards his ending
time, Winnipeg wasn't really the best, but I do think that we would like to see Patrick
Laine back, at least I would, at least I'm the type of Jets fan that would want to see
him back in this uniform, and obviously, I want to ask you guys, do you think we should
bring Laine back, let me know in the comment section, do you think we should, do you think
we shouldn't, tell me down below in the comment section why we should, why we shouldn't, tell
