Yeah, I think we can definitely get
the run game going,
get back on track, and just really get after these guys.
A couple guys out there that I don't really want to tackle,
but I'm not going to say names.
I think about this.
Um...
That's a pretty confident thing to say for somebody
who hasn't really
gotten the run game going yet. I get it.
Not all his fault. We're going to talk about the
offensive line shakeup in this video,
along with some insider reports explaining maybe why the
Raiders didn't go out and make a trade for Quentin Nelson.
It talks about Quentin Nelson,
but I guess it would also apply
to a person like DeForest Buckner, even though him going for a
fourth is absolutely insane.
But Jenty coming out spitting,
saying they got some guys over there that don't know how to tackle.
It's only going to fuel the fire for this game.
I wouldn't have said that,
especially with how not good our run game has been so far.
But we talked about it yesterday.
Their run defense is...
Their weak spot, they being the New York Jets.
So if there's ever a time for us to finally get this thing going,
it's against another AFC East opponent.
Because week one against AFC East,
Ashton Gentry looked like Barry Sanders.
He's since looked like Zemir White since.
Although, he's making an impact running the ball.
So we're going to talk about the offensive line.
We're going to talk about Ashton Gentry in a mere second.
It's really crazy how the confidence that you have
in your football team can switch on a dime.
Because if you told me, as I checked the Cal Street markets here,
that I'm seriously considering taking
the Jets in this game a couple weeks ago
after coming off a back-to-back really good losses against
the Chiefs losing by three
and then against the Bills losing by three, I would say you're crazy.
But now after losing to the Rams in the way in which we did,
And Klink Kubiak maybe hinting at the possibility of Fernando Mendoza.
I don't know if that gives me more or less confidence in this game.
I can't tell you the last time that we won a game in New York.
We have success against the Jets at home,
but that 10 a.m. body clock, West Coast to East Coast travel,
I don't love it.
I don't love it right now.
If you purchase the no contract on Calci and you throw 25 on there,
you win.
If they don't win, you win 48.
30? Interesting, interesting.
I will say this, if you are interested in checking out Kalshi,
use code ALLABOARD to instantly get 25 when you trade 25.
And the reason why Kalshi is so unique and better, in my opinion,
than your typical sportsbook is because you're
not betting against the house
like you are when you use a traditional sportsbook.
You are purchasing yes or no contracts, peer-to-peer trading
where we set the market on anything you can think of.
Movies, TV, politics, media.
If you want to purchase those contracts,
Kalshi has it.
You know, there's been a lot of people
that have been saying
that John Spitek really missed out
on going to get Quinton Nelson.
Now he's 30 years old and he's a guard,
so he's not going to have an impact on your team
a la Jeffrey Simmons, who's 29
and just went for two firsts.
If you didn't see, if you're living under a little rock,
Jeffrey Simmons got traded to the Chicago Bears
for a 27th first and a 28th first.
I think the Bears also flipped the Titans a 2028 fifth.
I mean, how does that work?
How are they coming up with, yeah,
we also need your fifth in a year and a half, whatever.
29 years old, he's the oldest player on defense
to ever go for multiple first-round picks,
and what's interesting is that Quinton Nelson,
who is every bit as good at his position
as Jeffrey Simmons is at his position, goes for a third and a fifth.
So it really makes you think, man,
it would have been nice to have somebody like Quinton Nelson
for whenever Fernando Mendoza gets in there.
But here's the thing about the Jeffrey Simmons trade,
about the Quinton Nelson trade.
One player does not fix...
A team like the Raiders' problems.
Jeffrey Simmons, I mean, I don't think he's going to be on his own,
a player to be able to fix the Bears' defense,
but he's going to make them better.
And the Bears are obviously closer
to contending for a Super Bowl than we are.
So when it comes down to people talking about,
well, should the Raiders have traded for so-and-so,
DeForest Buckner or Marvin Harrison or Quentin Nelson,
here's where the NFL exec's reaction comes into play.
This is Hondo on SI.
Raiders, Spitek, pass on trade opportunities.
NFL Executives.
Share their take on why the Raiders
and GM John Spitek passed on a trade opportunity
and what it meant for Las Vegas.
The Raiders at 3-4 go to New Jersey
this weekend where they hope to return to their winning ways
against the 2-5 Jets.
The Silver and Black are in their first year
of a calculated Raiders rebuild led by John Spitek
and guided on the field by Clint Kubiak,
and they've shown admirable discipline in sticking to the plan.
The Raiders need help.
We knew this before the season started.
That this team has positions where the Raiders don't have a player.
The Raiders don't even have a player.
Are woefully inadequate.
Defensive line thin.
Multiple positions.
Or simply young at defensive back.
This is not a franchise void of talent.
Still, they certainly have voids.
And the discipline isn't recognizing them.
It's noticing that one player or even two.
Wouldn't project them into a Super Bowl contender.
Agree, Hondo.
So don't overpay for temporary headlights
that cost championships in the future.
Let me explain.
Quentin Nelson.
The Raiders guard play has been inconsistent if we're being nice
and terrible if we're being blunt from game to game.
With the NFL trade deadline looming on Tuesday, November 10th.
Man, that is coming up.
Uh, rumors suggest that the Raiders were interested
in Quentin Nelson, a perennial Pro Bowl caliber,
eight times in eight years.
I confirm the Raiders were interested.
So why not make a deal?
The defending Super Bowl champion
Seattle Seahawks did, believe it or not.
The answer is simple.
Okay, so here's, uh, Hondo reached out
to three NFL executives to ask the cost the Seahawks
paid and their thoughts on Spivey's decision not to make a move.
The first executive said this,
the cost makes sense if you're the Seahawks.
And think you could be one guy away
and you feel pretty good about resigning him.
I can tell you this, if John Spitek's looking
at his roster and there's so many needs,
I'm not doing it.
Those two picks could be two players.
And what will his contract be?
If he gets some assurances on a contract,
and I'm sure the Seahawks had those talks before swinging the deal,
I would have done a third if I were the Raiders.
But no chance in hell I would do that Seahawks deal if I was him.
Executive number two, I wouldn't have made the deal.
That deal went higher than the Hawks wanted,
thanks to the Raiders, but they are in need.
John Spytek isn't.
He knows what he has.
That move would have gotten some good press,
but it would have also slowed the rebuild.
It would have cost him two players,
two draft picks, and a lot of cap on a 30-year-old.
And then executive number three, I don't know John Spytek well.
But not doing that deal tells me a lot about
his style and the Raiders' thinking.
They aren't afraid to be bold, Linderbaum proved that,
but they aren't going to be dumb.
That deal makes a lot of sense for John Snyder in Seattle,
but not for the Raiders.
They have a lot of needs, and if Q were 27,
you could do a new deal, maybe not two picks,
but not 30, the cost and picks and salary, and the remaining holes.
Fans want action, and I respect and understand that.
So do Spytek, Brandon, and Kubiak,
but the Raiders also understand the action for action's sake
has doomed them for over 20 years.
He also goes on to say the Raiders want long-term action.
That makes sense.
That's why Marvin Henry Jr. isn't here.
I wonder if that has anything to do with us being able to go get
someone like Brian Thomas Jr., right?
I agree with Hondo, and I agree with those executives 100%.
Quentin Nelson would have been nice.
And I think if you win that Rams game
or if you win the Bills game or the Chiefs game,
then maybe you can convince yourself, okay, we'll see what happens.
But this is a results-based business,
and right now you've lost four straight games.
I don't think Quentin Nelson...
In the short term, or in the long term,
is going to completely fix and flip the franchise.
I think they really believe in some
of these younger players that they're going to give
opportunities to, a Charles Grant, a Trey Zune.
Apparently, there was a report or a video
or somebody on Twitter said that JPJ was not
at practice.
I haven't confirmed whether or not if he's injured
or if they're holding him out for a trade.
If somebody does have that information, let me know in the comments.
But in terms of just making a move for making a move's sake,
I do not think Clinton Nelson was the answer.
Again, if he was 27, like Hondo said,
I do think I would have pulled the trigger on that.
But a third and a fifth, I definitely would not do that.
I mean, think about a third and a fifth this year.
A third is Trey Zune, right?
Who potentially could be one of your starting
guards for the foreseeable future.
He might get his first opportunity this week.
I think he should against the Jets defense,
who's good, not great, but decent.
And Hezekiah Masses, who has shown some big-time flashes
of starter potential for a fifth-round draft pick,
you need constant at-bats, swings at the plate.
When you're rebuilding,
and this is year one of a calculated rebuild, which is why
you have to be careful about making trades.
Now, Brian Thomas Jr. has two years left on his deal
and then the fifth year option.
So a second or a third for him makes a little more sense because
he can be there for the future and he's younger.
If you sign Quentin Nelson to a three-year
extension, by the time that deal's up, he's 33.
Brian Thomas Jr. is what? Younger than me,
definitely. So he's going to be there
for the foreseeable future if Vancouver can unlock him.
But I wonder if they're waiting on a Brian Thomas Jr. trade
to see if Dante and Jack have an impact,
an impact is made once they're back on the field.
I don't know if Jack's going to play this week.
They said there's a real chance that he can.
Dante is going to be out there.
So only time will tell if Kubiak is able
to scheme some stuff up with them.
I know he can do it with Jack.
I've seen it through the first two weeks.
Dante, I'm not sure.
So we'll see what happens with Dante.

We're always talking about the writers
and a bunch of other stuff, so hop on down there.
Hop on down there.
Raiders' next potential O-line shake-up could
be the one that actually solves things.
Trey Zune, you're up.
Maybe.
This is Levi, our boy Levi, on Just Blog Baby.
We're going to skip all the Clint Kubiak quotes
because we know what he said
because we reacted to the presser yesterday.
But Levi says here,
Why Trey Zune could be the solution
at right guard for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Simply put, Powers Johnson and Rodgers
have struggled and Zune looks promising.
look promising, both in the preseason
and he's held his own in real games, albeit in limited
reps. Yes, he has played in some of those jumbo
formations. And the only way to find out
if he's given a full workload
on Sunday against the underrated New York Jets defensive
front. And the only way to find out. Zune
is incredibly athletic.
So he's always been the kind of offensive lineman
that Kubiak covets,
and with months of experience under his belt
in the Raiders' mix of blocking schemes,
which has included gap, inside zone, and outside zone,
he should have a mastery of the playbook and concepts.
They want to make sure that, you know,
he knows what he's doing before they throw him out there.
Plus, he has been getting his feet wet
with 21 offensive snaps played in the last six weeks.
That may not sound like a lot, but a handful of reps,
but even a handful of reps,
helps both to calm the nerves
and help a young player catch up to the speed of the game.
Zune has hopefully accomplished both.
Coming out of college, and according to what
his coaches and teammates say about him,
Zune is incredibly intelligent and hardworking,
so there should be no mental errors,
and his effort is heroically consistent,
so any mistakes Zune may make won't be for a lack of trying.
He won't give up on plays.
If given the opportunity,
Zune will undoubtedly have some plays that he wants back.
He would be a mid-round rookie making
his debut in the starting lineup at position
that he's never played before.
That's good perspective, Levi.
But if he can put up enough good stuff on tape,
Las Vegas could easily bank on his upside.
Right now, the Raiders have the worst rushing tag in the league.
How? Two years in a row.
And a lot of that can be contributed to the interior
offensive line getting blown up and missing assignments.
Pass protection has been largely good.
But a bit streaky lately as well.
Again, particularly from the center and the guards.
At least Miller and especially DJ Glaze have been pretty good.
In a way, Zune can't be much worse than what
the Silver Black had to deal with.
I mean, that's kind of what I feel like about Mendoza
in the first half of that Rams game.
And folks in the building seem to be
confident that the next potential shakeup
could be one that actually solves things.
A lot can happen in a few days,
but Las Vegas is seemingly entertaining Zune at right guard.
I would start him.
I don't think it can be any worse.
As critical as I've been of Ashton Gentry,
and nobody's safe in terms of the criticism that I'm about to give out.
I mean, who the hell am I?
I'm just a guy in my bedroom talking about the Raiders.
But when I watch them and I think this guy's not playing,
well, I'm going to say it.
I don't think Ashton Gentry has been perfect.
I'm not even close to his potential.
However, when he gets the ball in his hands in space,
he is clearly a difference maker.
And a lot of the film suggests that the holes are just not there again.
And Tyler Underbaum has not been great, especially the last two weeks.
But the guard play, especially the right guard play, has been not good.
The reason why our pass protection has been better is because
Colin Miller and DJ Glaze, in particular, are holding their own.
But we need a shakeup at guard,
and maybe Trey Zune isn't the perfect answer,
but he cannot be worse than what we've been getting.
We have the worst rushing attack in the league.
What, are we going to get worse than worst?
Throw him in there.
See what you got.
They got his beak wet.
They let him learn the playbook.
I think that's totally fine.
Now, one more thing I wanted to hit on here before we hop off.
Jeffrey Simmons, who is the same age as Max Crosby, maybe a year older,
was just traded for two first round picks.
Jeffrey Simmons at the defensive tackle spot leads the league in sacks
over the last two seasons.
Now, Max Crosby does not lead the league in sacks.
I don't think he's top three in sacks at his position.
However, I'm pretty sure since he's entered the league in 2018,
He's led the league in pressures.
However, for whatever reason,
I do not think you're going to get two firsts
for Max Crosby.
I just wanted to kind of compare and contrast,
unless you have a team that's desperate,
like the Dallas Cowboys,
who would do something silly,
like give us two firsts,
although I don't think they have a couple firsts to give
because they traded firsts here or there
to get Leonard Williams or whoever it was.
I think the ship is sailing on getting two firsts from Max Crosby.
Maybe people think that his bad play is due to his knee.
But I think he's completely healthy.
He's obviously getting doubled a lot,
but he's not having the impact that we all thought he would have.
Maybe he'll have a game where he'll have three or four sacks,
and then he's back up to whatever the total should be.
People will be reminded of his play.
But I am just imagining people being like,
well, if you can get two for Jeffrey Simmons, you get two for Max.
I just don't think that's the vibe right now, the energy in the room.
It's just that you're not going to get
one first-round pick for Max Crosby.
And at this point, I wouldn't trade him for just one.
I wouldn't.
I think he's a Raider,
and I would stick to my guns
in terms of what you're asking for.
So that's kind of my take on the offensive line
and the Max Crosby of it all
and the Jeffrey Simmons of it all.
