This is massive for the future of the Sharks as Macklin Celebrini has officially been named
captain of this team going forward. We're going to talk about this, talk about how dangerous the
top line is, and so much more. You're not going to want to miss this episode of Sharks Digest.
But before we dive into everything here, just want to say we're less than 100 subscribers away
from hitting our goal of 3,000 before the season starts. So if you're new here, you want to stay
up to date on the latest news around the San Jose Sharks, we're your home for it here on YouTube.
But yes, we're back today talking about Macklin Celebrini and today it's great news as it is
official from the San Jose Sharks that he is the 11th full-time captain in San Jose Sharks history.
It's so great to see Celebrini be named with this honor, a great leader in this locker room on and
off the ice. We've talked about it extensively here on the channel. It's so great to see him
captain. He said, you know, it's a great honor and stuff like this. And all the teammates
that were asked questions about Celebrini being the leader, they basically say, you know,
we love learning from this guy. He's a great leader for this team going forward. And they're
all really excited about this, which is great to hear as well. And it's just great for Celebrini to,
you know, get that recognization wearing the C on the chest. I mean, we just seen guys like
captain as well. So two young guys getting the captaincy, which is great to see and Celebrini
such a great, great leader. I mean, this is a guy who tried to get everybody back from their
summer vacation early to start working, to try to, you know, get better, hone their craft and
get better chemistry as a team so that they can have a successful season. If that doesn't
right, you know, say the great things of a leader he is, there's so much more as well. I mean,
he's always in the gym on the ice trying to get, you know, his teammates, you know,
into that regimen of, you know, working together, being on the ice together, working out together
and just getting better as a team. And when you have a leader like that, the locker room is only
going to be tight and they are right now. And it looks like this core is really great. And they're
going to be, you know, led to the playoffs by their star player here in Celebrini and a great leader.
I mean, we've been talking about it for a while now. He like really models his game off of his,
obviously his idol was Sidney Crosby growing up and you kind of see a lot of similarities
in their leadership styles. And I really do think Celebrini, it's obviously a great honor for him to
become the 11th full-time captain of this team. But I feel like he's been the captain all last
season, really leading this team, leading the charge and having that record breaking season
last year. So huge shout out to Celebrini for getting that. And it was so great to see Jumbo
Joe Thornton hand him the jersey with the C in the locker room. Everybody up clapping, smiling.
It's great to see that Jumbo Joe was the one to be able to give him this jersey with the C on it,
which was great to see as well. And like I said, he becomes the sixth youngest captain in NHL
history. Just below Jonathan Toews, Vanila Kavieh, Sidney Crosby, Gabe Landeskog and Connor
McDavid. So great to see him joining a list of great players there and great captains. So the
future is definitely teal. We're turning it all teal this year. And you know, it all starts with
Celebrini being the captain of this team, leading the charge this season. And it's going to be a
fun one to watch. And just looking at Celebrini's year overall, it has been unbelievable. Just look
at this. He made Team Canada and got silver. He led San Jose to a 34-point jump last year. He had
team season points record 115, was a Lindsay finalist and came fourth in her voting. He named
the captain at the World Tournament, which was great as well. He won IHF Men's Player of the
Year. He was on the NHL 27 cover, signed his big eight-year $18.8 million deal, and now has been
named the San Jose Sharks captain. It has been the year of Macklin Celebrini, and it's not stopping
now as we head into a new season and a new system that we kind of have a new look Sharks going into
this season. Now we have Celebrini at the helm with the captaincy. It's great to see Celebrini
have a great second year in the league, and now he's looking to have a great third year where I
think he's going to have an unbelievable season. Just looking at the JFresh charts, I mean,
everything is off the chart for this guy. 92nd percentile in finishing war, 94th percentile in
penalties, EV offense in the 90th percentile. I mean, this guy is just an absolute animal of a
player and just a great guy to be around as well. From what we've seen just online, everybody loves
to go to bat for this guy, and I think that's a big reason why the Sharks are going to be so
competitive this year. And another big part of that is this line that we've seen in the preseason,
which was Marchment, Celebrini, and Smith. I think this is going to be a great line going forward for
this team. Look, they had seven high danger chances in the preseason game last night, which was great
to see. This line really had a great connection, and we've seen Celebrini feeding Smith and Smith
feeding Marchment, Celebrini feeding Marchment. Marchment was just getting down low, getting into
his spot, and Celebrini and Smith were just, you know, whipping their chemistry around and finding
him open and ended up leading to him scoring a couple goals last night, which was great as well.
And I really do think this is the line we're going to see going into the season. You know,
when you create that many chances in a single game, I mean, that's special, right? And they
looked great last night. Celebrini looked great as well, and he's going to look great tomorrow night
as well, as from Curtis Pichelka here, he's going to be wearing the C for the first time tomorrow,
so definitely a game to be tuning into. And again, we will be live here on Sharks Digest. I'll be
live doing a little watch along, so make sure to tune in tomorrow night. We're going to be watching
that last preseason game with you guys in the chat. Drop in, say hello. You know, we appreciate
all you guys for your continued support on the streams here, but I do just want to take a look
at the lines that we did see in practice today. Before we wrap up this video, we see Marston
Celebrini-Smith. Like I was saying, this line was unbelievable last night. Created seven high
danger chances and a lot of, you know, points on the board for these players as well, which was
great to see. Stenberg-Wemberg-Graf, the swag line. We didn't get to see that in action last night.
We got to see Stenberg-Meesa and also Sherwood, but that was a great line as well. I thought Meesa
and Stenberg had a lot of great chemistry together, and I definitely think we should see them
paired up going into the season. Then on the third line, we have Chernyshev with Meesa and
DeFoeley. Chernyshev was playing on the fourth line with a couple AHLers and looked phenomenal
and had a great game there where he almost scored a hat trick. So I think this guy's going to be a
big, big piece for us going into this season. I think he's definitely my X-Factor player and
Dark Horse player for this team this year. I think he's going to have a big breakout year,
just from what we've seen from him in the first, you know, preseason game. Last night,
he looked unbelievable in that game, which was great to see. The fourth line, we've seen Goodreau,
Stopchuk, and Sherwood. Maybe we see Sherwood here on this fourth line,
would create some goal scoring down there, which is great to see. Then we have Allen and Trouba,
Nurse, Kesselring, Cagnone, and Orlov, and Dickinson, and Polkamp. Interesting to see Cagnone
back over on the left side. I thought he has looked good, went on his offside over on the
right. I really have liked what I've seen out of Nolan Allen as well in this preseason. He had a
great game score last night. He was positive 5.6 per stack card hockey, which is great to see.
Polkamp has an unbelievable showing as well. I think he's outperformed Dickinson in this
preseason and has definitely made a case for himself to make this roster. I'm definitely
going to talk a little bit about that more in our preseason wrap-up after tomorrow night's game.
Two days time, I'm going to have my preseason wrap-up, talk about what's the best we've seen,
and what is to come, what players could even make a chance to make this roster.
