The Wizards are sizing up something very interesting here with questions still looming
about the final roster spot and how it could be a point guard. Gabe Vincent's name from the
Atlanta Hawks and L.A. Lakers last year. Well it's been making the rounds but not only that
we had a little bit of an update on Trey Johnson. He has been putting in work specifically for the
pull-up jumper which could be a game changer for the Wizards this year and finally we also got
a little look into the top off seasons ranked by one news outlet and I gotta be honest I'm
annoyed about it. We're gonna get into all of that coming up on this episode of Wizards
Digest but first things first guys we are pushing for a thousand subscribers. Thank you by the way
for subscribing all of you who have. It's still 90% you haven't done it. We're here daily with
all the latest Wizards news rumors reports and updates including even when it's not that great
when we don't love to hear what we're seeing but I want to start by just showing what has
happened this offseason. The NBA website posted every team's full offseason. Here's the Wizards.
So before we even get into the ranking I want you guys to think about where you think the Wizards
will have ranked within the whole NBA in terms of how good their offseason was. Well just by looking
at this Trey Young of course the four-year deal a little controversial but we take it he's a star
player it is true. DeAndre Ayton joins via trade with the Lakers. Chris Middleton joins via sign
and trade. Of course traded away Jaden Hardy and D'Angelo Russell. They're not even really Wizards
it's fine. The AD move obviously isn't included here because it happened earlier in the year
but Nick this well according to ESPN and their power rankings after offseason moves they have
the Wizards down at 22nd. So it is really power rankings but a lot of it obviously is heavily
influenced by what they did recently in the offseason. Below the Hornets, below the Suns,
just barely above the Mavericks. I mean I don't know about you but I know we've been talking about
how high we think the Wizards can fly this year. I just I feel like people are sleeping on the
Wizards but maybe that's exactly where we want to be. Yeah now obviously that ESPN article or
the NBA I guess doesn't show any of the bonuses of the draft pick. That was probably their biggest
acquisition quote-unquote but it's not technically a transaction I guess so it didn't show it there
but yeah I mean Trey Young's the big one. DeAndre Ayton and Chris Middleton we'll see how they work
out. I think DeAndre Ayton's a fine addition but for the power rankings I mean yeah it is a weird
one. The NBA is very very good right now obviously the Eastern Conference got significantly better.
I would personally definitely put the Wizards above the Hornets. I would put them above the
Suns pretty easily and obviously the Mavericks are almost the Western Conference version of
the Wizards to a degree maybe a little bit worse so yeah I mean definitely some disrespect going
around. I don't know why they have the Hornets above the Wizards. I mean you have Trey Young,
Anthony Davis, Ajay Devansh, you have so many guys but I do think this goes to show there is a lot of
I think I guess ignorance might be the best word surrounding the Wizards because of how bad
they have been. Last year I'm sure non-Wizards fans have no idea about how good some guys were
last season whether it be Will O'Reilly whether it be I mean a lot of other guys I think that's
part of the reason. Yeah and you know this other thing here like sometimes I feel like I'm being
gaslit into thinking that like Trey Young and Anthony Davis suck or something like I get it
like I get that there are concerns and especially if Anthony Davis signs a max contract that like
there'll be concerns there but in terms of just purely on-court talent like I look at this team
and I'm like well there really aren't that many weaknesses you know like I just it feels like a
team that's gonna play a lot better than people are treating it but anyway we'd love to hear your
guys thoughts down below and one of the big reasons the Wizards could take a leap this year
let alone these moves that we just talked about and again drafting Ajay Devansh is the development
of some of the young guys and one guy Trey Johnson I mean he has been working. Wizards
you can see Trey Johnson in the gym working on his pull-up jumper you saw some of the footage in
the intro we got a little picture here Trey Johnson is one of these guys Nick that I think
if we're talking about where the ceiling of the Wizards can be this year his performance can
actually greatly influence that right if he's coming off the bench being a kind of six man
type of guy there's a world he could average 15 to 18 points a game I really think so we'll take
a look at his stats here from last year they'll come up on the screen in a second the pull-up
jumper I love in particular right getting him to have not that he couldn't shoot them before
but you know he's a very solid spot up shooter 35% from three we've seen him shoot from the
parking lot basically but Trey Johnson to me is one of these guys that we have to look at as
a very big ceiling raiser for this team and I think him putting in the work as he should be
this offseason is just showing like he's going to be one of a few guys I imagine that are going to
take some big leaps which a lot of these models just can't account for obviously last year shot
field goal percentage you know efficiency is going to be something he's 20 or was last year
and we'll be heading into the season 20 years old he'll be more of a bench player this upcoming year
we would assume now you never really know how things are going to work out I say this in every
video the starting rotation or starting lineup rather is pretty you know fluid at this point
you have the guys we're going to be in AJ de Bonsa Trey on Anthony Davis if Trey Johnson can come out
and actually continue the level of three-point improvement that we think he can especially with
there's definitely going to be a role for him and obviously you mentioned 15 to 18 points a game I
think the only reason that a lot of the guys and the wizards might not be able to reach that is
because there's only one ball to go around but at the same time you can make the same argument that
you have Trey Young and he can make a lot of guys better you can see here like how many minutes how
much playing time is Chris Middleton going to get how many minutes is Trey Johnson versus you know
Bob Carrington all these different you know guys and we'll talk about another man in a minute here
they do need to add some sort of veteran presence probably to play off of the bench and we've
covered a few different names but I think he's in a very very good spot but there's just not a ton
of minutes I mean there's not enough minutes to go around considering how many young players they
have which is why depending how things go some of these guys might end up getting traded over
the next year yeah probably and I do agree you know not as many minutes to be had there but
I think Trey Johnson is like in a position where with this style of play he could actually thrive
in a situation where the ball is in stars like Trey Young Anthony Davis AJ de Bonsa's hands where
he can kind of run around off the ball and force maybe a lesser defender onto him he can you know
like and he can go around and just get maybe more open looks than he would have in this year where
the Wizards like he was one of the top offensive threats in a lot of games where he was playing
right so like now the floor might open up a little bit for him so and we'll see how that affects him
and other guys but yeah you're very right I mean there is only one ball but how do we get that ball
movement right and again we got to dive into this report because it's a good primer for what we're
about to talk about the Wizards will look to add a backup point guard behind Young we've talked
about Westbrook we've talked about Aaron Holiday we got to get into the last one here Gabe Vincent
and I've seen this actually echoed a little bit today I've seen a couple people mention his name
and the same breadth as the Wizards not in terms of actual trade rumors or anything but just ideas
and it's it's it's a point guard Gabe Vincent is a point guard that is pretty much what you're
getting with Gabe Vincent started the year with the Lakers finished with the Atlanta Hawks this
the numbers are not that impressive uh he is not very efficient what he does is he comes in
he'll hit three throws but he won't turn the ball over that much you can look the assist
to turnover ratio was nearly three to one to be fair even if it was on low volume he's not going
to be there to score he'll spot up and hit some threes he'll try to have some nice strong veteran
like defense there put the point of attack on D he worked okay for Atlanta more so worked well
for LA where he got his shot off a little bit more I don't know like I think if we're looking
at a guy that definitely really doesn't need his minutes to take a look at his whole career here
um 25 26 was split between LA and Atlanta but it just shows the most recent team Atlanta
look I mean most of the time the last few years 15 to 20 minutes a game he's going to go out there
probably shoot about 35 percent from three he's going to pass the ball without turning it over
too too much you know he's not as much of a specialist like Aaron Holiday was to shoot in
threes he doesn't have the ceiling of a Russell Westbrook who could maybe come in at average 10
to 15 points he is a point guard and I don't really know how to feel about this guy but I
mean if you just want a veteran presence I mean he kind of is that definition yeah he is I much
prefer the other two I think Aaron Holiday makes by far the most sense he can play off ball a lot
more Gabe Bitsy point guard not a great passer I mean one assist a game obviously the minutes is a
little bit low he's almost someone who can you know maybe give it I don't know I'm not super
high on it Lakers fans hated him I have a few friends that are Lakers fans with his time in
LA and obviously he was coming off of that great season in Miami after the 2022 2023 season so I
don't know it would take away some minutes from guys like Bob Carrington and maybe some you know
handle duties from Trey Johnson I almost rather them at that point if you're going to go the Gabe
Vincent route like spend some of that money on a third string center or something like that which
you can actually potentially use and developers Gabe Vincent yeah he is a veteran who can he
wouldn't I mean I actually don't want to say he could hurt team I'd rather just give the minutes
to the veterans or go after a guy like Aaron Holiday who has a much more defined role where
he can definitely knock down the three-point shot and also has the upside I think that's a lot higher
than Gabe Vincent yeah I didn't agree I don't love this option but I don't know what is going on in
locker rooms or whatever like maybe he is a good locker room presence I can't possibly tell you I
know a lot about Gabe Vincent's personality behind the scenes but you know hey he is something and
love to hear your guys thoughts like is this just even as a veteran presence who maybe doesn't play
is that worth it for you or would you rather someone like an Aaron Holiday or maybe you're
a Westbrook or whoever that has a more defined role on the team I'd love to hear your thoughts
but that will do it for this episode thank you for subscribing thank you for liking the video
