The NBA should be terrified of this...

The NBA is absolutely terrified of this and if they're not already they should absolutely be as Bam Adebayo through just a few hours of training camp footage looks like he is on his way to not only making a run at an MVP but a defensive player of the year. I'm here to break down some of the footage that we have up to this point through the first day of training camp and this heat organization and why Bam Adebayo looks like just the best player in the world not only offensively but defensively as well. We'll break down all of that on this episode of Heat Digest so let's not waste any time get right to it breaking down the news. Now I don't have the full clips for you if you'd like to go watch them check out any of the Twitter accounts we are about to reference but Bam Adebayo looks so freaking good it should terrify any team that's not named the Miami Heat. Five reason sports goes on the post this iron sharpens iron Bam looks unreal in this drill this drill and he's not kidding Bam Adebayo is playing ones against Giannis Antetokounmpo where they are catching the ball at the free throw line if not the free throw line extended and it's clamps Giannis doesn't look like he has a chance to score in any way. The footwork is phenomenal from Bam Adebayo his ability to close space is phenomenal without fouling by the way and then the handwork the ability to slap ball and not catch the wrist or the hand or even fingers at that is just on full display and we're not talking about Vlad Golden here we're not talking about other guards and power forwards or forwards in general this is against a former MVP a finals winner in Giannis Antetokounmpo and the newest teammate the newest and best teammate for Bam and this Heat organization and the welcome to the Bam Adebayo sweepstakes is absurd and then what they do they switched roles and guess how this screenshot resulted or ended with I should say Bam again footwork on defense like mentioned earlier phenomenal fantastic but when you put them on the offensive side of the ball again catching the ball at the free throw line only taking one if not two dribbles maximum being able to get to his spot and again knocking it down a fallaway jump shot over a legitimate defender in Giannis Antetokounmpo who has as long of a wingspan in reach as Bam does himself Bam's able to elevate over the defender and knock down the shot it doesn't end there as they continue to go through this drill in UD Udonis Haslam ended up stepping in a few times and he wasn't playing as hard as some of these players but then again Bam and Bobby Portis someone I love one of the best acquisitions of the summer for this Heat team comes in it resulted in a blocked shot tried to hit the same move that Bam hit on Giannis Bobby Portis gets his shot blocked he ended up looking at Bam they argue about a foul call and Bam told him ball first and then the wrist cry later I'm the best defender in the world now with that being said right now if let's thank Kelsi for sponsoring Kelsi when using code digest NBA if you want to jump in on the fun in the idea that Bam Adebayo can win his first defensive player of the year that doesn't even sound like it could be possible with how great he has been through his career especially defensively if you want to jump in on the fun on the chances of him winning a defensive player of the year award this season right now on Kelsi they have Victor Wembenyama with a 65% chance followed by Chet Holmgren at 10% and then in third place in the sense of odds you have Bam Adebayo a $25 trade pays $390 because that right now the odds are set at 6% towards Bam Adebayo to win this award I know what Victor Wembenyama seems like he's going to win the MVP in the DPOY for the next 20 years straight but crazier things have happened and Bam Adebayo has showcased his abilities especially defensively for years now and this could be the season he gets the job done in Miami especially with a little bit of a pressure and threshold taken off his back playing along the sides of Bobby Portis and Giannis Antetokounmpo to say the absolute least but now let's get back to it and break down how great Bam Adebayo has been and again it is the first day of training camp where we're getting this footage we're getting interviews we're getting quotes from these players and specifically Bam and Giannis but he just looks so freaking good the talent on both sides of the ball is undeniable again Bobby Portis defending this time like showcase last time where Bam ended up blocking his shot this time they're catching the ball from the free throw line extended Bam Adebayo was able to put his back to the basket with Bobby Portis defending him not a slouch defender by any means who again is roughly the same size and height with the amount the roughly the same wingspan as Bam Adebayo who's widely known as a defender Bobby Portis that is a aggressive and physical defender at that he's able to get to his spot with his back against the basket give him one to two dribbles get to a dream shake move falling away to the baseline and knocking down a competitive contested jumper it has just been so fun to watch and we are only one game in up to the or one game in one training day in up to this point for the Miami Heat playing down at FAU no are they playing at FAU yes they're playing it yeah I believe so FAU right playing at one of the FAU campuses down here in South Florida and it has just been it just a showcase of how great he really has been a few quotes here we have to mention first one from uh Brad Brady Hawk excuse me and Brady's the best if you don't follow him on social medias do yourself a favor if you're a Heat fan go follow Brady Hawk on Twitter when Beasley Michael Beasley said that thing about Bam Adebayo in ones he wasn't lying he clamps and some nasty scoring in that one session here on day one of training camp and again we just highlighted all of it let's go through some of the numbers and how what the expectations are for Bam Adebayo because it's crazy to say he hasn't won a defensive player of the year award I know the overall production especially offensively hasn't been to the level all of Heat Nation really expected especially over the last few years because everyone thought he was going to be a 25 and 12 guy at some point after having what that 20 20 and a half point game per per game season with nine rebounds three assists a 1.2 steals in just under a block per game while shooting 54 percent from the field it felt like there was no way he wasn't going to continue to progress especially only being what now 29 that was back when he was 24 25 years of age it felt like it was only a matter of time until we really saw him take off and transform into that definitive NBA MVP level candidate year after year and obviously it didn't happen but now maybe this is when it all starts to take place taking some pressure off of him and at least the focal point in the magnifying glass off of him because of Giannis being there because of clay Tim Hardaway jr and Andrew Wiggins and all these great complimentary pieces surrounding him maybe this is the opportunity where we get to see him really go out there and showcase all of his abilities again I know we're looking at the year by year breakdown but let's look at the uh what is it sports reference page here and the reason I want to do this is because of the awards category on the right he placed in the defensive player of the year category for what seven straight years yeah one two three four five six seven straight years since his rookie year up until two years ago he has placed in the defensive player of the year conversation every single time not to mention he made defensive all defensive team either first or second team two four five six out of the seven times the guy has just been unstoppable on the defensive end of the floor and I think this is really the year where things really start to take off now I want to quickly highlight this quote from Giannis Antetokounmpo because I think he's 100 percent right and it's something some guys and some people overall covering the game of basketball and specifically the Heat organization may be overlooking but Giannis in a press conference with bam autobio in training camp today oh and obviously that's what the photo looks like that is Giannis on the left and bam autobio on the right doing an interview I apologize I did not check it before I started recording so you can't you can only see an arm on each guy I apologize but I promise that is them and this is a quote from Giannis in that interview or that uh press conference interview press conference interview if you will and Giannis goes on to say quote if I guard bam every day in practice when he goes out there the next day against anybody in the league it's not going to get much harder referencing how good of a defender Giannis Antetokounmpo is and it's again just like five reasons sports mentioned earlier in the first post that we highlighted in those one sessions iron is going to sharpen iron it happens every single time that's how it works and this is a perfect example of it and I can't wait to see what it ends up looking like the rest of the league should be terrified of what they are about to get from Giannis and bam autobio specifically let me know down below your thoughts and opinions on this possible breakout season for bam autobio and I will see you guys on the next episode of heat digest thank you guys for watching
