Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Dallas Mavericks showed promising signs in a 132-115 preseason victory over the Rockets. The game highlighted Kyrie Irving's successful return from injury, the early pairing of Irving with Cooper Flagg, and strong contributions from young players like Zachary Rishel and Sergio Delladore as the team prepares for the regular season.
The Mavericks are actually scary.
We just witnessed what we've been waiting for for a very long time.
That is Kyrie Irving's return to play,
paired alongside all the other Mavericks.
Obviously, Cooper Flagg,
and we got to see not only Kyrie Irving look like his former self,
but some more young stars continuing to thrive,
continuing to look impressive.
And as we approach the beginning of the regular season,
this is all lining up perfectly for the team.
We're going to dive into all of that, as well
as some other updates before we get into it all.
very quick reminder to hit that subscribe button, Jason it
was a very early game this morning
what we did see was a lot
of impressive play now obviously most people were waiting for and
ultimately were kind of wanted to highlight the Kyrie Irving action
and they led the Mavericks
Kyrie Irving led the Mavericks to a 132 to 115 win
the win means a little bit less obviously in
you know in the in the preseason but you can see here
and it was a very interesting game um we can
see obviously this is it says starters
but we're just lining it up from top to bottom on minutes
to to least amount of minutes
so these weren't actually starters but Jace we saw Kyrie Irving
go out and put up 17 points we saw Zachary Rishel
say we saw Cooper Flagg struggle a little bit from
the field but still managed to put up points
but let's just start with Kyrie Irving he finished
with 17 but he looked like he hadn't really lost
a step he was quick he was explosive it didn't
look like he was kind of second guessing many
of his movements there surrounding the injury
I it's a very very good sign yeah I mean heck first points
of the game a little reverse on the
on the right baseline so really just looked like he
was not injured at all over the past year so
very exciting to see and I think all the talk
of oh I'm good you know I'm not going to have
any steps there's not going to be anything
that's going to take away from me we all kind of like
wanted to believe that but we didn't exactly know for sure
and now seeing this game seeing what he
was capable of one it's a completely different team
and when you look at the first game for this
game completely different in the way that they played
in the way that it was managed in the way
that Dusty may got to coach, but in a bigger way,
it was also a Kyrie Irving show of saying,
hey, I may be aging, I may be coming off
a very important injury in my career, but I
am still that same player.
I am still one of the most elite point guards
and ball handlers in the NBA, and he was very
much a huge piece of this win.
And the win, like I said, doesn't really matter all
that much, but what does matter is the
way that this team played with him.
Yeah, it's funny, like you mentioned,
his first basket being a reverse layup.
And 17 points, I mean, you can look at it here.
obviously some guys played more minutes than
others we saw Cooper Flagg lead the team but
Kyrie Irving led the team in points
and that was very very impressive so shout out to Mr. Kyrie
Irving there's another name we haven't talked about there's actually
a lot of them we haven't
talked about obviously Marrez Johnson didn't play today
but there's a few other young names including
Zachary Rischae who went out
and sent a pretty serious message here to Dustin May about where
he's going to play this year he finished with second minutes
also Sergio Delaria which we'll
dive into as well but there's one tidbit surrounding
Rischae i want to dive into but before i do
it a quick word from our sponsor no throws

this one make sure to check them out but yeah let's dive
into it so Zachary Richards i mean he looked
incredible i don't know what other way to put
it here put up 16 points three rebounds two
assists extremely efficient um you know two for
six from the three-point line and even though it
wasn't super efficient from the three-point line
a 33 or so percent him shooting that is going
to be very important a plus seven jace what did you
see from him obviously he's going to have
his growing pains still at three turnovers but this
is a former number one overall pick
and somebody that realistically has to uh i think in order for
this team to i think really make a push
and have a very very strong bench i think having him there
will be having him perform like this will
be absolutely critical yeah i think it's hard because
we want to overreact in the preseason
and i want to say like you know this is the number one pick
that we you know saw in him but at the same time it
also is preseason and it's against you know a
team we're facing the Rockets.
Yeah, but it's just, it's a different format. So I'm
very excited. I'll say that. And I do think
this is like the type of play they want from Rasheed,
but he hit the nail on the head. There's going
to be growing pains. There's going to be games
where he does this and looks great,
but there's also going to be games where he has, you know,
five points and four turnovers or, you know, whatever.
And so I think that looking at a guy
like Rasheed kind of develop over this preseason
is going to be huge and seeing him kind
of, I guess, get better at the weaknesses is going to be a pretty,
pretty big thing for him,
especially if there's a shot where
he's going to play consistent minutes
alongside Kyrie and Cooper,
given that,
you know,
Max Christie and him are kind of battling right now for the number one
shooting guard spot.
Yeah.
He'll have to get better at,
see how to get better at shooting realistically.
If you want to play alongside Kyrie and last year,
obviously saw a pretty significant decline even throughout the whole,
but even like his first 62 games,
like he was okay,
but even his last five games,
like just completely fell out of favor.
Obviously a lot of that was because of,
you know,
the Hawks,
the playoffs and all that stuff,
but it'll be interesting to see.
We also saw Cooper Flag definitely
struggle today compared to his usual self.
He went three for 10.
But when you're, you know, star guy puts up 14,
four and seven while having a pretty rough
go, it shows the ability for him to be extremely good.
Now, was it the debut against preseason?
So it doesn't matter a whole lot.
But was it the kind of debut for the pairing that we would like to see?
Maybe not on Cooper Flagg's side,
but I think it goes to show that, I mean, this is what
great players do when you're struggling.
You're still able to do things and put up almost a double double here.
so i'm not too worried about Cooper Flagg
and i think the bigger picture here is about how things
are looking throughout the rest of the team how
is the pairings gonna go we also saw of course
Sergio he's looking like
a real guy i mean he played 22 minutes 9 points 7 rebounds four assists i mean
i don't know if it's crazy to say he's out playing
i mean Marcus Sasser didn't play i mean there's a
world where they start with Sergio
as the backup point guard instead of Sasser and Sasser is kind
of a combo guard but Sergio looked really really good
and people are starting to kind of speak
about it we saw this in our in our video
from i think it was the other day before yesterday and
this one of the commenters really like starting
to like Sergio had an amazing game also importantly
going three from three from three
or racking up six assists nice to see him finally shooting well
and a lot of it did translate to the second preseason game here
so Jace what are your
thoughts on him um one for three from three
which you know take a couple steals as well i think he
is also plus 34 plus minus doesn't really matter much
but plus 34 it's exciting that's what i was
going to bring up I was like listen I know
that plus minuses are kind of hard to judge by but
plus 34 is insane like that's just that's kind of diabolical
when you think about it especially
when you won by what 17 18 so uh I I think
when you look at Delaria he's becoming more and more
of what the Mavericks want in a backup point guard
and in my opinion is taking over the role
that Marcus Marcus Sasser was trying to you know you know get
when they traded for him but at the
same time again it is preseason it is a lot
to still like you know ride out here and finish out
But I mean, games are starting this month,
so I'm really excited to see what kind of comes from this preseason
of Sergio Delladore and kind of the plus minuses that he hasn't done.
He was the only guy in the positive last
game two days ago versus the Rockets.
Now he's the one who had the plus 34, which I mean,
it almost seems like a typo in some ways, but he's very, very solid.
I am obviously really excited to see what Kyrie
and Cooper can do together in the regular season.
This is kind of a taste of it. And even like you said, bad,
bad game for for Cooper when it comes to the grand scheme of things.
minus nine overall and it wasn't fantastic
but still Kyrie and Cooper put up 31 points
so i'm gonna be happy with that yeah i'm all in and overreacting it's
it's fun to do let us know down below
what your guys thought sir we'll see
