The magic just got exactly what they needed from Sean Sweeney. We're hearing player after player
talk about clearly defined roles, better communication, and a coaching staff that
knows exactly what it wants from this team. And that could be a much bigger deal than it sounds.
Because when you look at what Sweeney is asking from this roster, it starts to paint a very
different picture of what the magic are trying to become. We'll get into all that and more on
today's episode of Magic Digest. I want to go ahead and welcome y'all in and say, hey man,
if you are not subscribed, now is the time, you know, we're going to roll to 3000. And what I
want you to do is before we even get going, there is a playoff, I mean, a player battle happening
right now for who would be the first wing off the bench. So if you believe it'd be Tristan De Silva,
drop a T down in the comments. If you think it should be Noah Pender, drop an N down in the
comments. And for you, Jamal King fans, drop the J down. If you think he should be the first wing
off the bench, go ahead, subscribe. Let's get this channel to 3000 and keep it rolling, man.
Y'all been showing me lots of love. We're going to get into it. But before we do, I want to let
you know that today's video was brought to you by our good folks over at Calshi. On Calshi,
you're trading directly against other users, not the house like traditional sports books.
You're buying yes or no contracts on the outcome of events across sports, politics, or even the
weather. For example, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are up against the Green Bay Packers. And yeah,
it ain't been looking good. Good old Tampa Bay. But with Baker Mayfield out, they could be starting
the very impressive rookie Jalon Daniels or Jalen Daniels, my bad for messing it all up.
And if you feel like they could be the ones to win and get this winning going, you put your 25 on
Tampa Bay for a chance to win 6305. That's thanks to our good friends over at Calshi. On Calshi,
use the code if you're interested. Use the link in the description and pin comment and code

thanks to our friends over at Calshi. And we're just going to keep it rolling today, man. Today,
we getting some information about what is looking like for the players at training camp. We still
haven't got very deliberate and, you know, detailed descriptions of what this office
is going to look like. But I did find this tweet that I thought was actually kind of funny. This
comes from old magic guru and he said breaking breaking news per multiple players post-practice
interviews and coach Sweeney, the Orlando magic worked on offense. This is the first time the
team has dedicated a practice to office in four years. Bang. Now, I thought that was funny. It
kind of made me laugh. I don't believe it. I think, you know, it is what it is, but we have been hearing
good things out of this training camp these first few days. And we, when Sean Sweeney was asked about
pecking orders and roles, he had this to say, and this is thanks to Ryan Kaminski over at
sports illustrated.com. He spoke to Sean Sweeney and says, in terms of pecking order, that is not
how I see it. This is a game where you want to play your strengths and minimize your weaknesses,
who I am, who is my teammate, who is covering me and who is covering my teammate. Now, honestly,
these are the type of things that we want them to be working on. Of course,
these are professional NBA players. And again, this is training camp. Everything is going to
sound good. Everything is going to sound good. It's like when you see the every year, oh, we
got the Ben Simmons hitting a three in the off season video. Again, NBA is back, but it's like
that. Everything looks great in training camp, in the off season, in practice sessions. Things look
really good, but it will come when we actually get on the floor and see these guys in less than a
few days. He goes on to say, coach Sweeney, we want to get as many shots on goal as we can.
We want to limit them as much as we can. And the shots we take, we want them to be great. And the
shots they take, we want them to be terrible. I mean, that is just strictly, it's coach speak for,
we want to make sure that we put our guys in the best position to get easy buckets, DHOs,
inside out, popping pills, drives, dish. We want to make sure that we're getting efficient
basketball. It's shots that are not only going to go in, but lead to offensive rebounds
and stop the defense from getting out on the run. Now, the, over the last few days
through interviews and, you know, just catching up with different players, each player on the team
has kind of gone over not only what their role will be, but how it's been communicated
by coach Sweeney. Again, we keep hearing about the direct way of communicating. Like he's not
afraid to say what needs to be said. You know, he's, you got to think even with Paolo and France
being the quote unquote big dogs here, as far as the 1A and 1B, they are not that long in this
league where they can come in and have the attitude. Like we ain't got to listen to this guy,
especially the way the national media and even some of Orlando fans have turned on P5 and France
over the last season or two. So it's almost going to be looking like, if you're not doing what you
need to do, you might be out the window probably before coach Sweeney. But each, there were three
players that I wanted to focus on specifically and hear exactly what their role would be.
And he had this to say about Sean Sweeney. He's had meetings with every single one of us,
even laid out all the roles in a meeting. Everything is clear cut, everything's expressed
so that we know what it is. So it's not going to be a surprise or uncertain, which is nice.
And again, I don't know if these are shots or is this just establishing, you know, going forward,
but one of the few things that was very apparent, especially last season, there was a lot of times
when guys were just out there freestyling. It felt like they didn't know what they were doing.
It felt like they didn't know what the scheme was. It was like, yo, just roll the ball out
and we'll make it happen. And I would love to see real precision. I would love to see
a real game plan where it looks like, hey, it's not about just force feeding Paolo
and making him go save us. It's actually a system, a scheme designed to pinpoint the
best aspects of every player, not only what they do good at, but what they can assist their team
with and how to put them in the best positions. And if we keep on going, you're starting to see
players say exactly what their roles are or how they will be moved. We look at Desmond Bain. He
simply had this to say, a lot more movement. And I know a few people who love that, you know,
shout out to my brother Militron. You'll see him down in the comments every now and then,
but he's like, yo, every time I'm watching the game last year, I just see Desmond Bain in the
corner. In fact, I think there was a viral video of Desmond Bain just standing in the corner on
multiple plays. And we got to, we got to get him moving around. If he can move around and really
keep the defense off guard, then that creates more spacing and can lead to more open shots for
him. So we definitely want to see that. Also, when we talked to Anthony Black, he had this to say,
simply his role is connector and ball Hawk, which yes, I want to see Anthony Black develop more of
a play making role with this team and on defense. I want him to be a guy that can pick people up.
If we're not doing 94 feet, pick them up at half court, use that length, use that width,
mean that them wide, them long arms, you know, to be in people's faces, move your feet. So you
can stay in front of people on defense to make you a top notch wing defender at that big guard
position so that you can switch with your height and keep other guys in the rotation. I would love
to see that. Now they spoke to a lot of players and they got quotes from a bunch of guys. We could
just look at some of the quotes that were given. Uh, Franz Wagner said, super organized. Jason
Richardson. I liked this. He wants to be a pest 94 feet on ball irritant. He's he's got the speed.
He's got the quickness. If he can come out and do that, we've seen a lot more teams want to pick
guys up 94 feet, especially coming in on that second unit, either playing with the first unit,
who's going down and getting tired, or you're coming in against guys that are not as good as
you or could be. So we want to see apply that pressure. Uh, this one, this one right here,
definitely, you know, piqued my interest. No opinion. When asked about his role, he's like,
your role can evolve. Yes. Wendell Carter jr. Be assertive. Yes. Not just yes. Hell yes. Like
you got to be assertive and really put the pressure on your defender so that, you know,
cause you have the skills. Wendell has the skills. If he just uses that body and does what he needs
to do. But I would love to know, what do you guys think about how the players are feeling
in their roles so far in this off season training camp, man, we're getting ready. Basketball is a
few days away, man. Are you excited? Your boy is excited. Tap in with your big on Gary until the
next time on magic digest.
