This is wild, but the trade rumors keep coming in as the latest attempt to break up the Magic's
core is centered around sending frauds out for Michael Porter Jr. and some draft capital.
Does this move make any sense for Orlando, or is it as wild as MPJ's over-the-top podcast quotes?
We're going to get into all that and more here on today's episode of Magic Digest. What's good
with it? It's your big Uncle Eric back again in the building. I hope you guys are doing good.
I'm going to make this a quick hitter today as we go over this as I'm getting ready for some NFL
football. And if you want to get involved in the action, you can check out today's sponsor,
Calshi. On Calshi, you're trading directly against other users,
not the house like traditional sportsbooks. You're buying yes or no contracts on the outcome of
events across sports, politics, or even the weather. For example, this game that's coming
up tonight, New England versus the Seattle Seahawks rematch of the Super Bowl. I checked
out the market over on Calshi and I was like, yo, they got the, they got, they got New England as
the heavy underdogs. So I was feeling spicy. I put my money on the Patriots to come from behind
with the victory. 25 can get me 61, 47. So I got my money on that. If you want to get involved
in the action, check out Calshi. Use the code DigestNBA, trade $25 and get 25 added to your
account instantly. Check it out down below in the description. Now let's just go ahead and get into
this, man. I was online doing my research and I saw this crazy trade idea that came across people
blowing me up like, yo, what is this? Let's talk about it. And as all these trade ideas come across
at first, to me, they sound ridiculous. Cause it's like, yo, why would the magic do this?
Started thinking about it. And I'm like, I can see some of the points made, but we're going to
point this out to you and see if it's actually worthwhile, because I don't know. I don't know.
I'm definitely interested in seeing what it would be. So this would be a trade with the Brooklyn
Nets. The magic will receive Michael Porter Jr. Harris man, Noah Clowney, and two future first
round picks. The Nets will receive Bronze Wagner and Jalen Suggs. And this is taken from Yessi
Gosling off the third apron podcast. Now let's just look at this a little bit closer. We have
Michael Porter Jr. Terrence man, Noah Clowney, and two fruit future first round picks.
The magic would really have to break up their core by getting rid of Franz Wagner and Jalen
Suggs. And we know, especially since I've been doing this podcast, that's all the people I've
been talking about. Even some of Orlando's fans are like, yo, I love Paulo. I love Franz,
but they are not going to get it done together. A lot of people think they occupy sort of the
same space on the floor where, you know, they both have similar height, play similar positions,
even though they play differently. They both need the ball in their hands as playmakers or
to really maximize their potential. And with the health issues of Franz, I can see people saying,
hey, he just hasn't been consistent. Like a lot of people feel like he could be the better player,
the better all around player, but his health issues just make him so inconsistent. Now we've
seen the push this summer to really focus on getting into the season, 100% healthy,
also forming a tighter bond with his magic teammates, you know, spending some time in the
lab with them, you know, what they say, I hope you go back to the lab and return tighter. That's
what it looks like they're doing. But if we break down this trade, why would the magic do this?
So further on in this podcast, he does explain trading Wagner gives Paolo, Ben Carroll,
free reign in Orlando. Suggs departure also promotes Anthony black into a full-time starter
man and clown. He helped maintain the magic's depth, but the two future first round picks
are more viable in the long run. And honestly, I was, if I'm going to be 1000% honest,
when I first saw this trade proposed, I was like, man, get out of here. No Michael Porter jr.
But then I started thinking about it, especially giving up bronze and sucks.
I started thinking about it. Well, the magic are in a really tough spot financially as we have
addressed here on this podcast. Now it really to the point where I did a podcast about how
they can lose Anthony black and restricted free agency, especially if a team like the Clippers
comes along and says, Hey, we'll give you whatever. We don't care. We'll go into the
third. We'll go, you know, we'll go into the third, fourth, fifth apron, just because
we got the money to do it. And we're going to go out here and get these guys because we don't have
the draft capital that's needed to go out and bring players in. So Anthony black could be a
casualty of that. A lot of restricted free agents next year could be, you know, tantalizing to
other teams. And if the magic don't have the capital, unless they can convince him to take
a team friendly deal, they really may be on the losing end. And this trade could clear up some,
not only roster positioning, but a cap space so that you could pay Anthony black. He could
kind of slot in into Suggs role. You know, if he, especially if he takes that next leap,
then you have a year with MPJ, his contract is expiring. So if that doesn't work out, then
you could get rid of him and have that added capital to go out and bring in who you need.
Now, as far as Michael Porter jr, the type of player he is compared to Franz
Wagner. Well, this is Michael Porter jr. Is not going to be playmaking at all. It would be pretty
much the ball would be in Pablo's hands. Michael Porter jr. Can't get his own shot. And he showed
that last year in Brooklyn that he's able to go out and get his own shot, put up good numbers,
but he doesn't need the ball as much as like Franz does to create for others. So it would be about
him having a better shot. He could definitely shoot him coming off of a two-man game with
Paolo, you know, when Paolo can attack and you know, you're rolling and hitting Michael Porter
jr. On that three, the open three in the corner versus Franz, it can just provide a little bit
more space. Um, but you know, he also had this to say about Michael Porter jr. In that article
or that podcast, Porter averaged 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, three assists, and 1.1 steals per game
his first year in Brooklyn. He played in just 52 games due to several injuries, including the
sprained ankle and strained left hamstring. His projection is four years, 80 mils. No, you know,
and with him, forgive that last part. It would really be about, it would really be about
what are we trying to do here? If we're moving on from Franz, I don't know if I want to move
on to a player who has had as many injury concerns as far as had, you know, in his career. Also,
while he did put up numbers in the nets, were they empty calories? Where was it? Okay. Just a guy
on a bad team, putting up good numbers. You know, we saw that he can score the ball and play good
next to someone like Jokic, but is Paolo going to create the opportunities for him
that he had planned next to Jokic? I don't know. I don't know. It will be on the growth of Paolo.
Paolo can develop into a Jokic levels guy. Then yeah, go ahead and do. I'm with you,
but I would love to see, I still want to see this team, this core at full strength and what they can
do. I don't know. Let me know what you think down below, because this is where I, like I said,
I want to know how you guys feel. Tap in with your boy. You know, I love to get involved in the
comments and hear the back and forth with you guys. You know, it gives me ideas and as a Magic
fan, I just appreciate all you guys showing love. It's your big unc, Eric. I'm going to get out of
here until next time. Magic Digest.
