The Dragon Boat Festival is often associated with the patriotic poet Qu Yuan. But that is only one layer of its history.

Long before Qu Yuan, ancient Chinese people observed the movements of the heavens and understood seasonal change through the image of the dragon. The Dragon Boat Festival emerged from this much older tradition—one that connected astronomy, ritual, and the rhythm of nature.
