Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Boston Celtics secured a 124-113 preseason victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, relying heavily on their bench and rotation players as main starters like Jayson Tatum and Paul George sat out. The game highlighted the depth of the roster and the effectiveness of Joe Mazzulla's high-volume shooting system.
The Boston Celtics just unlocked their secret weapon
as game one of the preseason is officially in the books.
And man, what a game it was.
The fellas really stepped up.
The main starters did not play.
Tatum, Paul George did not make an appearance.
Mitchell Robinson did not make an appearance.
Tatum did not make an appearance.
Pritchard did not play.
It was really the bench guys, the rotation guys,
who we need to see a step forward from this year.
And they looked great.
But folks, particularly Devin Carter.
Yes, Providence legend, Providence College legend,
Devin Carter had a great performance
tonight showing that he really wants that last roster spot.
And honestly, give him the standard.
Give this guy the standard, not even the two way.
Give him the standard.
Devin Carter was looking like an absolute gem tonight.
He had everybody talking about him
in the first half of this game alone, 15 points on
five of nine field goals three rebounds two assists one steal
and he had plus 15 in those
15 minutes the Celtics were also up above
the Cavaliers 71 to 62 at the half but as you can see
there were plenty of people raving
at him D'Angelo says Devin Carter might sign the Celtics last two
way spot by halftime high high praise
for Devin Carter folks he played fantastic we're going to
break that down as well as talk about
the performance from a ton of the other main Celtics
slash rotation guys that we need to see steps forward from this year
because they looked great
but folks before we get any further into it i want
to say that if you're confident in the
boston celtics performance for this upcoming season
and you want to look at something like
45 plus wins 50 plus wins or even 55 plus regular
season wins you can place a yes or no contract on
that on Kalshi folks because
on Kalshi you're trading directly against other users not the
house like traditional sports books you're buying these yes
or no contracts on the outcome of events
across sports politics or even weather
and folks if you did not want to do something like this you
can instead pivot to the Celtics
to be Eastern Conference champions where a little wager of $25
pays out nearly $182 folks but that is only if you use Kalshi
and if you are interested make sure you
use our code as you see it right here
on screen digest NBA it will be in the description as well
as the pinned comment of this video
and you will get $55 added to your account instantly once you
wager your first $25 folks
but that is only on Kalshi deeply appreciated if you do use the app
make sure to use our code
but back to it folks, Celtics basketball, Celtics basketball is finally
back, we finally have an actual game to talk about
a game that happened today, just like ended like
maybe 30 minutes before i'm recording this, it
was a pleasure to watch this one folks, i mean we
already have the box score right here, let me show you
a 124 to 113 victory over the Cleveland
Cavaliers who might I mention played some
of their starters, played Donovan Mitchell played
Mobley played, Jared Allen, the Celtics did
not play any of the main, well they played the main
Celtics guys but they didn't play the main guys
as in Tatum, George, the regular starters, it was a
fantastic performance I was extremely pleased
with what I saw from Devin Carter from Sanak
Jr from Shireman, i mean it
was pretty great, even Hugo Gonzalez i thought played pretty well as you
can see here folks, look at these numbers, Dylan Mitchell
was plus 15 in his minutes, Devin Carter
plus 22, Chrisnak plus eight, these guys
were making an impact on the court just looking
fantastic all around, but the main guy that i want
to focus on first is Devin Carter who is currently
fighting for that roster spot
that is still available, he had 17 points, five rebounds and
three assists by the end of the game, five
for nine shooting one for three from three six for
six from the charity stripe
but plus 22 in his minutes, two steals, unfortunately five turnovers
which is not great, that was one of his negative metrics in this game
but folks as i have already
said in previous videos on Devin Carter I'm
a little bit biased towards Devin Carter because
he's an alum of the school Providence College
but I've seen what this man can do he was Big East Player
of the Year for a reason.
Keep in mind what schools are in the Big East playing against
Providence, Villanova, Marquette, UConn, Creighton,
a bunch of these great programs. I mean, there's
St. John's, Seton Hall. There's plenty of talent
and competitive grit in the Big East. Devin Carter
knows how to play and it's going to translate.
It's going to translate to this NBA level. Just
stay patient, folks. I know it's a preseason game,
but he looked great and people are absolutely
be raving about him as I was already showing
you earlier Bill Simmons also said Devin Carter
bandwagon first row seat this is Bill Simmons
a diehard Boston fan a guy who has created his
whole life essentially on Boston sports
so DC my hat's off to you that was a great performance
and another little thing that I want to add
in from Barstool Greeny about the game overall
17 three-pointers made 47 three-pointers attempted
so back to the Mazzulla style
35 free throws attempted 21 offensive rebounds
which is many many more than the Cavaliers had
I believe the Cavs only had like six offensive rebounds
in this game 16 turnovers only four in
the first half it can be the starters the bench
or the main cells the system remains the system
for a reason it works hashtag Mazzulla ball
and honestly it was working tonight it got us another
victory it's the reason the Celtics have been able
to be a regular season wins machine under
Joe Mazzulla and that's why folks that's why many people
are expecting it to happen talked about
with Sports Illustrated prediction Bleacher
Reports predictions ESPN's rankings they still
see the Celtics among the top the Giants in the east
but who else played well in this game Baylor
Shireman I thought played particularly well 16
points 5 rebounds 3 assists on 5 for 12 4 for 7
from three he was minus eight in his minutes
but I thought he looks good and Baylor if he continues
to just shoot gonna be valuable on this team
because we know the Celtics Joe Mazzulla loved
their threes he looked good I was very pleased
with Baylor Shireman I was already high on Baylor
Shireman I also saw him play against my school
because he went to Creighton competitor with Devin
Carter they are now teammates Jordan Walsh looked
pretty solid out there tonight as well folks in
25 minutes 16 points two rebounds one assist
on six for 14 two for five from three two for four
from the charity stripe in 25 minutes he was minus 13
that is okay not to mention jordan walsh still
out there with the defensive tenacity
with his length doing great things so i was really pleased
with all these guys performances as well
as hugo gonzalez we got to talk about him as well 26
points or sorry 26 minutes rather 15 points four
rebounds five assists five for nine three for six
three for two for the charity stripe
and plus seven in his minutes hugo also i believe set
a nba rookie record or record for um plus minus in the previous season
or at least the celtics
rookie four plus minus he likes to make a positive impact
while he's on the floor and man he was
looking good as well but who else can we talk
about well folks it doesn't stop there there is
more to talk about Luca Garza is a guy
that really stood out tonight a guy that actually dominated
and led the team in scoring 22 points 10 rebounds 2 assists 6
for 17 he's shot a lot of threes
3 for 10 7 for 8 from the charity stripe plus 5 I believe
that also says 3 blocks it's kind
of blocked by my head right now
but I believe 3 blocks as well yes you see it here a great
game from Luka Garza showing he can still
be a little bit of a weapon in the rotation
that's going to have Nimpha Keita and Mitchell Robinson
so it was pleasant to see him score
22 points not to mention it's not it wasn't just
the Cavaliers B team as I already said
we go back to the box score you can see guys like
Donovan Mitchell played you see Jared Allen in
there as well you see Mobley they played
their guys they played Peyton Watson as well who I
actually wanted the Celtics to get made a few videos
on him this past summer but he didn't do
anything too special in this one
but yes folks Luca Garza was the man leading the scene tonight
leading the scoring for the Boston Celtics
as you can see it right here these are all of the
leaders among the different stats Garza led in points rebounds Hugo
and assists Shireman and
three-pointers made Mitchell in steals Sanak with four blocks
who is also the man I want to talk
about next Chris Sanak Jr. our first round draft
pick seven points eight rebounds one assist he did
not shoot too well unfortunately
but he was still plus eight in his minutes despite the inefficient
shooting still like what i was seeing from him we have
to remember Kristanac is more of a raw
prospect he still needs some time to develop
his athleticism certainly there jammed it a few times
he's looking good out there and his counterpart
who was drafted with him from Saint John's
Dylan Mitchell you see it right here 27 minutes
10 points 9 rebounds 4 assists on 4 for 7 plus 15
in his 27 minutes also making a positive impact love
to see it honestly love to see it dylan
Mitchell both of the guys that we drafted Brad Stevens showing
that he still has that knack
finding some solid players now
who knows if that's going to translate but the final one I want to
talk about is another guy who's kind of fighting
for a spot in a similar situation as Devin Carter
is a guy who played on the Celtics summer league squad Tucker DeVries
who went to Indiana he played
pretty solid as well he only had 10 minutes
as compared to these other guys but in those 10
minutes two threes giving him six points two
rebounds one assist plus seven in his minutes
honestly not bad but I would say the guy
who I want to highlight the most secret weapon potential
secret weapon for this Boston Celtics team
the man himself Devin Carter 17 5 3 plus 22 in the minutes
and everyone was raving about him as I
was saying I mean there's even more I'm sure that I haven't
showed you yep Bob Manning wouldn't be surprising
to look up in a year see Devin Carter being a big
part of the C's rotation or maybe sooner
so folks it's really not just me that is telling you about
Devin Carter it is Celtics reporters it is people
that follow this team closely they agree on my
sentiment regarding Carter
also another thing that I briefly mentioned earlier offensive rebounds
keep in mind this is without Mitchell Robinson
who's going to be bringing in a ton of them
halftime Noah Dalzell tweeted the Celtics have
a 12 to 1 offensive rebounding edge at the half
they've taken 13 more shots 56
and twice as many three classic Joe Mazzulla so even though they've
been less efficient 42 to Cavs 55 they're up
by not very classic stuff we know Joe Mazzulla
cares a lot about the shot volume versus the shot efficiency
but is this going to come back to bite
us come potential late in the season
if we make it playoffs it has come back to bite us a few times
So it still begs the question, but we know Joe Mazzulla.
We know what his scheme is.
We know what he's trying to do.
But, folks, overall, a good first look at the Celtics.
They did not play Jason Tatum.
They did not play Paul George.
They did not play our starting guys.
They did not play Derek White and Richard, obviously.
But it's a very positive sign to see the guys
who are more rotation guys,
more bench guys, come out and play so well.
Very, very pleased with this first game.
But, folks, I want to hear it all in the comments.
give me your game reactions give me all
of your thoughts down below in the comment section once
