Best Bible verses for helping marriages?
It's right in the beginning.
It's in Genesis with the creation of Adam.
Genesis chapter 2 verse 18.
It says,
It is not good for the Adam to be alone.
And the reason I don't translate it as
it's not good for the man to be alone
is because Adam wasn't a man.
He later was separated into man and woman.
But initially the original Adam,
Adamah means the earth.
So Adam means the one who is made from the earth
was both male and female.
Like it says even earlier in Genesis chapter 1 verse 27
that God created Adam as male and female.
The first human being was male and female together.
And then God said it's not good for this Adam to be alone.
So what did he do?
He separated the masculinity and the femininity
from each other into two discrete entities
that then reunited with each other.
Not united, reunited with each other in marriage.
Why is that so important?
For so many reasons.
First of all, it's to understand
that a marriage is reuniting with your other half
in the truest sense of becoming complete and whole again.
You cannot resent your spouse
as somebody who's intruding in your life.
Your spouse is you.
It's just an extension of yourself.
But on an even deeper level, what did God do?
He implanted his story into us.
He was absolute oneness.
And then he divided himself, so to speak,
into the creator and creation.
Creation is not distinct or apart from God.
There's only one.
There's true oneness.
So it's all God.
Really, there's nothing but him.
There's nothing but God.
But you have the creator and the creation aspect.
And they have to reunite and realign with each other
and reveal the underlying oneness.
But he did that to us.
And he created marriage as the way
where we experience our own version of God's story.
And that's why the holiest, most godly thing
that could possibly happen is to find ourselves in our spouse.
