Texas rancher Jim Bill Anderson shows NBC's Guad Venegas the impact from the wildfires on his land. Much of the open fields burned in the region were used for grazing and feeding cattle.
Normally you have a plenty of grass and you just supplement it with protein and they eat
the dry, the winter, the dormant grass, you don't feed them in the summer.
Are they extra hungry right now because there's no grass?
Yeah, yeah.
And they're just not content.
I mean they got all the hay they want, they just, they're not happy.
I would like to get off this ranch until at least July.
Let the grass come up.
You know, the grass, the grass was in excellent shape, the root system's strong, it'll come
right back.
You said your ranch had gotten an award because of the way you've organized it and the way
you raise your animals?
Yeah.
What is it that you did here that was unique?
Well this range management, nothing that anybody else could do.
Just kind of cooperate.
I just think you have to cooperate with nature because we have a lot of ups and downs in
weather.
Thanks for watching.
