Alice's MLK Parade was rescheduled due to the icy conditions earlier this week.
It is stepping off very soon in Fair Park, and our Nick Starling is there,
hopefully all bundled up and giving us a sneak peek of the parade fun. Hey
there, Nick. Hey, Robbie. Yeah, you're right. I am bundled up. It is very cold
out, but it's actually not so bad as you like. Robbie, the sun is out, and
just as long as you're bundled up, it feels pretty good outside to enjoy the
Martin Luther King Jr. Parade that's happening actually right now behind me.
They're kind of getting started a little bit behind me, and yeah, there'll
be about 250 different groups, organizations out here, anything from
high school bands, dance groups, organizations. It's gonna go on for a
couple hours over here, and joining us live here is Corwin. You're here to
enjoy the parade this morning. Talk to me a little bit about the importance of
this and why it's so important for you to be out here this morning. Just
celebrating the memory of the man that helped change America, Martin Luther King Jr.,
and they're supporting the students out here. I remember myself as a young kid
coming out and being in a parade doing ROTC, so coming out showing them love,
showing support, as well as the organizations, a memory of like the
Buffalo Soldiers coming through. It's always a fun time and exciting to be out
here and cheer them on and support them. Corwin, obviously the cold didn't scare you away.
You're really bundled up. It's very chilly out here. Absolutely. I mean, it's
not too bad. It could be worse, so happy that the sun's out, it's shining, and it's
warming up as the time goes on here. Well, thank you so much, Corwin, for
joining us this morning, and the parade route actually goes from Gate 6 here at
Fair Park. It'll go south on MLK Jr. Boulevard, then you take a left on to
Atlanta, then another left on a Pennsylvania Avenue, all the way back
here to Fair Park, and again, the parade starts in just a couple minutes here. You
can see them getting ready here. Starts at 9, goes for a couple hours, as a lot
of people will be along this route to enjoy this parade. Very frigid conditions
this morning, Robby, but it's actually not too bad, and the sun is out, which is a
good thing. Nick, the thing to do is get a parking lot, right? And then that way
you can turn the heater on and stay in the car and enjoy the parade. I hope lots
of folks will come out, and so glad to see you in a hat. I won't have to fuss
at you about being out there without being all bundled up. Thanks so much,
Nick. We'll check back in in about a half hour. Cold morning is not keeping
fans away from the Dallas MLK parade. It was rescheduled, of course, due to the
icy conditions earlier this week. It's underway right now in Fair Park, and our
Nick Starling is there. Nick, I know you are bundled up and hopefully having a
good time. What's happening with the parade? Oh yeah, the parade's been going
on for about a good 20 minutes or so right now, and a lot of people having a
good time. Even though it's chilly out, no one cares. Everyone's having a good
time to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. As you mentioned, it was
postponed from Monday due to wintry conditions, but it's going on right now.
A lot of people are bundling up, and we've seen a lot of different floats,
from city council floats to different bands and different groups,
organizations out here. There's about 250 different organizations that will be
going all throughout the route over here, and joining us live to talk about what
she's seen so far is Miss Apinella. Thank you so much for joining us this
morning. Tell us a little bit about your thoughts on the parade so far. Oh, this is
my first time out here to the MLK Parade. I'm actually from Alabama, and I'm
excited about being here, and I mean, it's awesome. Awesome. Yeah, thank you so much
for being here from Alabama, and tell us a little bit about what does Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr.'s legacy mean to you, and what does it mean to be out here? Oh, it
means the world to me, because I grew up with the discrimination and all that
going on, and to be able to see this come alive, that was his dream. So now we like
one, so his dream has came alive, and I'm really enjoying to see the people come
together as one. And there's all different types of people out here, all
walks of life out here celebrating his legacy, and as you see different
kind of floats and different organizations out here, what does that
mean to you? It means the world, because everybody's connected. You don't see just
one type, like you don't see just black, you see everybody. They come together as
one, and I just love it. I just love it. It's his dream, and it's mine as well.
Very well said. Thank you so much for joining us this morning, and Robbie, yeah,
absolutely. And Robbie, yeah, everyone out here, a lot of people out here to celebrate
this parade that was delayed. Again, just make sure that you are bundled up. If you
want to come on out, it should last for another about an hour and a half out
here, so definitely a very important parade for everybody to come out and
celebrate MLK. We'll send back over to you, Robbie. All right, stay warm, Nick.
Thank you so much for the update. It is cold, but the skies are clear, and that
means the parade is on. Dallas's MLK parade, of course, was rescheduled due
to the icy conditions earlier this week, but it is underway right now near Fair
Park, and our Nick Starling is there, thankfully all bundled up and showing
us the parade fun. Hey there, Nick.
Hey, Robbie. Yeah, you're right. I am all bundled up in many, many layers
because it is so chilly outside. Luckily, though, the sun is out, clear
skies, so it's actually not too bad if you're bundled up and going to a big
parade like this one here in Dallas. And yeah, as you mentioned, we're at the
Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Parade here. It starts at Fair Parks, goes around to
a few neighborhoods and goes circles back to Fair Park, and it's been going
on for about an hour now, and it's been fun times. A lot of music, a lot
of dancing, a lot of different organizations, 250 organizations having
a good time out here. And joining us live is Candula and Keith. Thank you so
much for joining us this morning. What does it mean to be out here on this
monumental parade? It's beautiful. This felt like Dr Martin Luther King. We
thank you for being our own. What about for you, Keith? Just to be living
through a good day. Like I said, days to get better. Not what it should be
now, but it'll catch up some amount of time. Thank God. And they're both from
Dallas. And did you come here every single year to remember MLK? Yes. Yes,
sir. And, uh, you know, obviously the cold weather didn't stop you guys from
coming. No, sir. No. Yeah. What's your favorite part so far? It's getting
better. But I remember I'm 62, so I've been in a long time. I was born in
Dallas, probably a mile from her, and I think it went down. But I think it'll
get back where it needs to be with time. Thank you guys so much for joining us
this morning. And the route goes down. MLK take a left on Atlanta, then
another left on to Pennsylvania Avenue and and come on out. It's a great time
bundle up, though, if you are coming out because it is very chilly out here.
Robbie will send it back over to you. The bands are always my favorite part.
Nick, what about you?
I really like the dancing. The bands are great. A lot of great music out
here. But the dancing is also fun, probably dancing a lot more because
people got to get warm, right? Because it's a little chilly out. Thanks so
much. Well, Fort Worth's MLK parade was also rescheduled due to the icy cold.
That parade will step off on Monday, February 19th, which is also
President's Day. Nicole, not keeping fans away from the Dallas MLK parade.
It was rescheduled due to the icy conditions earlier this week. It's been
underway in Fair Park for about an hour and a half. So let's check back in with
our Nick Starling. I know he was looking for some dancers early. Are
you gonna do some moves for us, Nick? Hey, Robbie, actually, there's dancing
going on right now as I speak. So there's a lot of activity going on.
There's a lot of great music, Robbie. I know you said you like the music here
at the parade as well, and we're having a great time. This has been going on
for about an hour and a half now. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, and it
has been such a monumental parade, too, for so many of us as well. And Desaria
joins us now. Thank you so much. And what's been... Why is it important for
you to come out, braving the cold and being out here? Well, it is definitely
cold, but I think it's just nice to see everything they offer with the
MLK and the Black Lives Matter stuff, and then also seeing all the different
like performances going on with the teams and stuff. It's just really cool
and nice to see. Thank you so much for joining us. There's 250 around
organizations out here supporting the community, and so it's definitely a fun
time. If you could brave the cold, it's not too bad. Just make sure you bundle
up if you're out here at the parade. We'll send back over to you, Robbie.
All right, Nick. You know, if you're dancing, it'll keep you from getting
cold. All right. Thank you, Nick. Yeah. Thank you for the fun updates, Nick.
