We did not know what plants are, so we went here to find out.
What's over 200 years old? Started as a veggie garden and kicked off the wine industry in
Australia. That's right, it's a Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney. Fun fact, the royal part of
its name only showed up in 1959. The Sydney Royal Botanic Garden is about 30 hectares and located
east of the Sydney Central Business District area and near the landmarks of Sydney Harbour
and Sydney Opera House. Did I mention it's in Sydney? Opened in 1816, the garden is the second
oldest botanic garden in the southern hemisphere of the earth, the oldest botanic garden in
Australia and the oldest living scientific institution. The botanic garden has a collection
of more than 27,000 plants, 15 themed gardens and at least one restaurant. It's open to the public
for free, which is good for us, and about three million people walk through the gardens each year
with more than half of them being international visitors,
which is great for us since we'll blend right in.
I mean one cacti.
