This is my winterized chicken run area, but I decided my roosters are crowding my hens
and I don't know if I can find one with some damage on the back of her neck, but there.
These guys need some space. That big rooster right there, that's Jupiter. I'm gonna move him out and
Pickle, that's Pickle with the purple, he's the Silky.
Get moved out and that loudmouth back there, that's Spot. Spot is also going to get moved out.
So let me show you the makeshift crates I'm making for them for winter.
I got these from a friend of mine. They're almost two feet tall
and my plan is to flip one on top of the other and basically move them into my garage for the
winter. So let me show you what I've got going. So I can't park in my garage because the door's
not wide enough, so I put one of these on top of the other and I'm going to
just put chicken wire around the exposed sides. So I stapled chicken wire in here top and bottom
and I'm going to wrap it around there all the way to the back and then I'm going to scoot
this set of containers up against that one and wrap the chicken wire behind them both
and hopefully have enough to wrap all the way around to here. I haven't measured it,
but I also have more chicken wire for when I need it.
So here are all three pens. Two of the three are filled. I have Jupiter in the first one and
Pickle in the next one and they're actually quite roomy, so I'm real happy with this solution.
It'll be a good fix to keep my roosters away from my hens
until I can move to my other farm, my new farm, and here's the last spot.
They're not usually this loud. They're just active now because I'm in here
and because they hear their other rooster. Well, I'm finishing my third chicken pen because
people, this is not a good sign. B Word has blood on his head, so I know
I know there was something going on. They've only been together for a couple hours, so glad I
caught it now because Spot does not look like he's doing well. I'm going in to rescue Spot.
Everybody has their own pen now. Food and water. Get some bedding for Spot. He's got a little
raised floor there. Pickle, food and water, separate space, and Jupiter. Food, water, and his own spot.
