Rangers make MULTIPLE moves... - This has MAJOR implications | NYR News

We have breaking news as the New York Rangers have just made multiple moves calling up one player from the Hartford Wolfpack and a major injury update just changed everything for this team ahead of the second game of the season. We also have a brand new very interesting development with Adam Fox and some confusing comments from head coach Mike Sullivan that have media members, fans, even myself included, very confused as to what they're planning to do with this new look defense core. The Rangers home opener is tonight back at MSG. Hockey is back at MSG for the year against Tampa Bay Lightning. They got shirts on every seat in the building. It's gonna be an electric atmosphere. The overall feeling around the team is so much better and besides the obviously not scoring a goal in the first game of the season they must score tonight. It's crucial that they put a couple goals on the board first but speaking of goals on the board or keeping goals off the board I recorded an entire video right before this update came out and the second half of this video is going to be that but a brand new update here. Jonas Corposalo has been placed on IR with a lower body injury. He is now week to week and as a result the New York Rangers have recalled Dylan Garan from the Hartford Wolfpack. Could you imagine? Could you imagine if he was claimed off waivers and right now they were calling up Spencer Martin. Thank goodness that Dylan Garan is still here. He is now going to be the backup and again I just recorded an entire video on some of the updates from this morning that didn't include this because this just came down minutes ago. We learned that Jonas Corposalo was going to be starting tomorrow night in Detroit for their home opener. Igor is going tonight but that's completely changed now so I imagine Dylan Garan is gonna get to Detroit Red Wings in Detroit tomorrow night. So Dylan Garan is back with the team. He will be backing up Igor Shostakhin and Jonas Corposalo is week to week. This has been a disaster from the start. He is week to week with a lower body injury. This is why it was so important for him to clear waivers that are already being tested. One game into the season. One game and Dylan Garan is back. Absolutely insane. Absolutely insane and by the way Dylan Garan I believe will not have to go back through waivers as long as Corposalo returns within 30 days. Because he's already cleared waivers I do believe that Dylan Garan does not have to go through waivers again for 30 days so they can send him down again within that time frame. So what does week to week mean? I don't know. Hopefully we have some answers soon from Mike Sullivan but I don't believe as long as he's back within a month that Dylan Garan would have to go through waivers again. There's a lot going on with the team right now and again like I mentioned for the third time I just recorded an entire video like literally seconds before this came out and there's a new interesting development going on with the Rangers that a lot of fans are picking up on and not just fans Johnny Elizarus we're gonna get into that in a second too about Adam Fox specifically and not just Adam Fox but the rest of the defense court and something that is really really confusing Rangers fans about some of the decisions although not about one decision he made in the first game of the season against the Bruins and if it continues into this game it's a trend that I'm not a big fan of and we'll get to a second but Mike Sullivan spoke out and said you know more specifically on the schedule and the fact that it's a back-to-back that it's a challenge I think every team is going through it with the length of training camp there's going to be an element this early part of the season of trying to build the foundation of fitness that's required to become the team that ultimately we want to become so a whole bunch of nothing really there I mean everybody wants to become a in shape you know really fast team that attacks right I mean that's what everyone wants but he also wants this team to defend we saw it last season the Rangers couldn't score at the start of the year they didn't really have the talent that they have on the roster this year besides you know Panarin obviously but they weren't allowing too many goals but a lot of that does fall on Igor too he carries a lot of the load man he really really does so another result of the short camp slash busy schedule is trying to roll all four lines and 3d pairs in these early games this is from Vince Montagriano to ease guys in and even out the ice time now this is what I want to get to this is a very interesting development and it's coming at a strange time because we're crying out loud it's the start of the season let's get going here Adam Fox played only 18 minutes on Tuesday which would have been his lowest time on ice in any injury free game last season Sullivan spoke on it as well and said that Foxy is a guy that went on the ice as often or sorry that we want on the ice as often as we can what I will tell you is that we've had discussions as a coaching staff in this early part of the season about using the bench and about keeping everybody involved so here's the thing that I'm a little like I feel pretty weird on I want to bring this up from Johnny Lazarus Marcus Petterson Chandra's and I think you need to utilize these guys more you need to take pressure off the top guys we were talking about that in the summer I agree but they both like both of them that second pairing played 23 plus minutes in the first game and Adam Fox played 18 now there's a further breakdown and again you can see it's the last time you know you played that little unrelated to injury was 2023 and a 7-0 win over Nashville the 7-0 win of course is not gonna play like the game right you're gonna give other guys ice time now if you break it down a little bit further from Johnny Lazarus he played 1634 at 5 on 5 and he played a minute and 13 on the power play this game was 0-0 and I hate to dive this far deep into it but Mike Sullivan has spoken about it he mentioned that we're gonna manage the bench and we want to give other guys opportunities if you're in a and you can see the last part there right using the bench keeping everybody involved if you're down and not just down in a game which they ended up being late in that game if it's a scoreless game don't you want Adam Fox on the ice wouldn't you want Adam Fox on the ice more when you play him more I know it's the first game of the season but you had a day off yesterday now you're heading into a back-to-back situation I understand that but you're playing those two guys more in a tight game where ideally and not like Adam Fox is like Evan Bouchard where he's abysmal defensively he's not I talked about it this summer Adam Fox is a very effective defensive player still it's just more of an offensive defense right so in a tie game in that situation then obviously going down wouldn't you want to utilize Fox a little bit more I think it's interesting a lot of people are talking about it today it's a hot topic of conversation you can see Johnny Lazarus is talking about it Vince Montagliano was talking about it they're talking about utilizing the bench a little bit more but Pettersson and Dersey going 23 plus minutes and Adam Fox in a scoreless game until the last five minutes of the game having 18 minutes is a little weird to me and I feel like maybe the the connection the bond and the camaraderie coming from Pittsburgh that he has with Marcus Pettersson could be playing into this and I don't know if I like it guys and you can see this as well this simply cannot be the case I get Pettersson and Sullivan have a relationship going back to Pittsburgh but Adam Fox has to be the anchor of this defense there's no excuse for the minutes to be distributed like that I feel like it could have been a little more even with Adam Fox and they don't have to be exactly even it really depends on the game whatever the game calls for right you're playing different teams different teams have different skill sets totally understandable but to me to have Adam Fox play only 18 minutes and the least amount of ice time in season opener in a game that was tied for 95% of the game is a little odd to me because you'd like a guy like that to break open the game right so whether it's making plays are quite literally scoring I think that's a very weird development and we're gonna be keeping a close eye on that because is he injured or is Mike Sullivan just making some stupid decisions already right like which one is it because I would like some clarity on that before I start throwing opinions so I don't know what it is now speaking of the final five minutes I'm leading or being tied excuse me for 95% of the game will fully spoke out about that well he said this from Peter Baugh he's got to try to lock it down for a full 60 minutes can't play 55 and give up three in the last four minutes that is for sure because bandage ad on the defensive areas to shore up on we were talking just quickly about our forward replacing we've got active D we've got a helper D out when we go down a little bit lower in the ozone now I brought up a clip yesterday of JT Miller and I saw some comments saying why would JT Miller have to drop there he's the guy that should have dropped there because York strands making the read on the other wall the pucks coming around he jumped up Miller was equal with Pedersen so to me if I was playing if I was in that position I would go he's going up let me take a quick look is anybody sticking back is the other wing you're staying back which would be Dorothea Dorothea shouldn't stay back Dorothea should be the guy going to the net or into the slot to get the puck so he can score if I was JT Miller in that spot I would say I'm gonna hang back and cover for the D here because my defense is going in and then Sean Dursey was left back to deal with that breakaway opportunity that you know arose from that yesterday so or sorry two days ago in the first game of the season so that's kind of what Mika is talking about JT Miller spoke about that too they have to be wary of that the D likes to pinch they have active defense you have Adam Fox Sean Dursey likes to do that Braden Schneider is lost in space sometimes these are things that you have to consider if you're the forward group to you know watch out for so these are things that they have to clean up very very quickly and when I say very quickly I mean now tonight against Tampa Bay because Tampa Bay is gonna be a tough opponent and how tough exactly well the season is still young but it's obvious earlier than ever that or this caught Scott Wheeler's eye that if you just browse around the league right now the Atlantic division is already three oh and oh against the Metropolitan Division it's a tough division so the Rangers have a tough matchup tonight they also play another Atlantic Division team tomorrow night in the Detroit Red Wings in Detroit for their home opener but guys let me know how you feel about everything we discussed today I think it's just an interesting situation but I will say this despite everything despite the loss despite the fact that they did not score in the first game despite the fact that this ice time thing is weird with Adam Fox hockey is back at MSG tonight I'm super stoked I'm gonna be watching I hope you'll be watching and just be excited and give this team the benefit of the doubt give them a second to gel it was a shorter training camp and I know it was for everyone as well but it was a shorter training camp give them half a second to gel here and I think a lot of the things we talked about in the summer that will be great about this team will come to fruition but they got to clean up a lot of the defensive blows and they got to clean up by the usage to Mike Sullivan's got to clean that up because I don't understand why Adam Fox is playing in a tie game less than Marcus Pettersson and Sean Dursey what were you gonna do like squeeze your way to overtime and try to win it 1-0 in a shootout or something like wouldn't you want the guy to break the game open he's not that much of a liability on defense it's weird it's weird is all I'm saying and only one game into
