This video documents a comprehensive garden makeover and maintenance day, focusing on enhancing a side yard's aesthetics through lighting upgrades and decorative planting. The creator also shares professional tips for creating lush, overpacked floral arrangements using fresh harvests from the garden, concluding a productive day of outdoor improvement and nature observation.
Hey guys, how's it going? I am so excited because I have a very very busy day in the garden today
and we're going to accomplish a lot in a little amount of time which makes me happy. So we're
going to do some garden maintenance today and then we're going to kind of do a little makeover
in the side yard. So I'm really excited because today's video is sponsored by Rejuvenation and
they're going to help me kind of put the finishing details on the side yard transformation and I
couldn't be more excited for the pieces that I have to show you guys. So the side yard is looking
really really good right now and it's really early in the morning and so the lights kick on first
thing in the morning but the lights here kind of disappear. There's so much growth that they really
don't cascade enough light for us so we're going to be adding a lot of lighting over into the side
yard and over into that patio garden area. There's no lights over there so it really could use some
lighting. So these are the brand new pathway lights. I'm really excited about it because they're
really tall so they're actually going to be raised up above the plants and they're going to be kind
of a statement piece. So this is glass and metal and it's got a really soft light to it. I already
did plug one in last night just to look at it and it's so pretty. So we're going to be replacing the
lights that are already here with these ones and this is going to be such a statement for when
people come in or when they leave in the evenings from my garden. So let's go ahead and quickly get
these swapped out. It's not even on and that already looks so much better and what's really
cool is these actually work with my existing landscape lighting system that I already have
installed and that glow is amazing on these. It took just a few seconds just to swap that out
and that already looks so much better. Let's get the rest of these done. Just like that the lights
are installed. It's bright outside already and these look amazing. This actually makes this a
statement piece in the garden. I'm loving these lights. Now with those lights done, I still have
more lights that I want to add over into this section but we're going to start with some
planters. I potted them up last night but they're so pretty. You guys are always asking where can
you guys get pots like I have. I found a source for my containers. Let me show you guys what I got.
They're so pretty and they're so pretty all potted up. So we've got four terracotta containers and
they're so pretty. They've got like a little lip to them and then they kind of like come out like
a bell jar almost. It's really really pretty and so I decided to just keep it simple. So in this
container we have some ivy. I've got some truffle pink gombrina in there and then over here I've
got this coreopsis that I just picked up. Kind of looks like a cosmo. It's really really pretty.
In here I finally found kirigami oregano which is a plant that I've been on the hunt for and I
bought the wrong plant earlier this year. And then I also have this rebecchia called treasure trove.
I have it in the landscape also but I just thought it looked so pretty in this container.
And then to really just kind of dress everything up, I did go in and top it up with moss. So this
is just some preserved moss so that way it kind of like really elevates this look until these plants
grow in. So it's just sheets of preserved moss and you just go in and you just kind of push them
together and it just kind of brings that whole look together. What do you think? Do you like it?
These containers make it so that I can add a little bit more interest into the garden.
But I have one more little thing to add to really help elevate this space. I also picked up two
of these trellises to just kind of add some height. Now you could use them in the planter
or you can do like I'm doing and just kind of have them be a really nice accent piece to
flank this walkway. One thing too was these trellises were incredibly easy to build. It is
five pieces. You open it up, put the drop pin in, slide your first ring on, the second ring on,
third ring on, and the finial up top and you have a trellis. And it's the time of year when we are
out here first thing in the morning or really late at night. So we're out here while it is dark.
So I am really excited to be adding a lot more landscape lighting to the garden, including this
rechargeable lamp. And it is in the most beautiful color. I already took a peek at it because I just
couldn't wait to show you guys. But isn't this so pretty? And it's just going to totally elevate
anywhere that we decide to use this lamp. It's got a really nice soft glow to it, a very warm
ambient glow. It's just going to really be nice anywhere that we sit in the garden. And it's nice
because it is cordless so I can just walk around with it and it is rechargeable too. So this is
where it gets really good. We're going to be installing these beautiful sconces on the gazebo
and we're going to be installing them on the entire exterior of the house. But isn't that
going to just be so stunning? And this is going to be such a statement when you walk into our
property. You will see these. These will just draw your eye down and pull you into our garden even
more. So these are going to get attached here. I have two of them. I've got one for this side and
the other side of the consult table. They're going to be centered on the table, not on the gazebo.
That way it kind of flanks this table. But isn't that going to just be so stunning? So let's quickly
get these installed. The first one is up. Brent's going to run electrical to it. Let's get one more
installed on the gazebo and then we're going to install one on the house too. They're both installed
and holy statement this is amazing. They make a huge statement when you enter into this back garden
area. We're going to install one more on the house. That way it is a complete cohesive look through
the garden. So this little light has been great, but really it's a little small and it doesn't quite
do the job that I want it to do. So installing this new light is going to give us a more impactful
and cohesive look that I'm really excited about. That looks so good. Now of course I don't want to
make you wait till this evening to see what it looks like, but this is what it looks like during
the day. I have the pathway lights on. I don't have the lights on back there on the gazebo.
Even this looks incredible. So the pathway now is lit up and it will be lit up so beautifully.
Some new containers and these stunning trellises. I'm so excited to grow something up them. And the
lights on the gazebo centered on the console table with one more light that matches on the house.
So it really has a nice cohesive look throughout the entry of the garden. And of course I'm not
going to make you wait till the end of this video to see what it looks like at night. So
this is what it looks like in the evening time. This is why landscape lighting is so important
and this is why ambient lighting is so important. You come in here and the garden is usable at night
and it's so cozy and welcoming. Okay back to the video now. Everything now has a beautiful
polished cohesive look as you enter into our garden. It feels so magical entering into the
garden now. So a huge thank you to Rejuvenation for sponsoring today's video and helping make
the garden feel even more magical. It's the end of the day now. It was a little toasty after all
that. So now we're going to get this sweet potato vine planted. I feel like there's somewhere in the
garden that this will just do fabulously. And honestly the season is starting to like, I don't
want to say come to an end, but this is usually the time of year when I slow down on gardening
because everything kind of moves to like a survival mode. Things just kind of, um,
yeah, they go into survival mode. We get usually way too hot and things stop growing. So usually
it's, uh, the garden kind of becomes stagnant. I don't see any growth on things. The children are
playing. Um, I don't see any real growth on anything but this year has been such a treat
and it's been a very pleasant surprise. They tried to attack me again. It's been a huge pleasant
surprise. In most years past, usually right about now it's about 110 degrees. And so we're barely,
I think that we've only had a few days at a hundred degrees, which is insane for us. And
it's the most magical start to summer I've ever had. Um, so I'm still planting, which feels
wrong and amazing at the same time. I'm trying to look around and figure out where this is going to
go. I think the, I think I'm gonna get just this last sweet potato vine in. Um, I do have one more
that's like a climbing one that I really want to get planted somewhere. I don't exactly know where
I'm gonna plant it. Um, and then we're going to make a flower arrangement because I feel like it's
been a minute since I made a floral arrangement. It's a beautiful day for that. I actually just
want to kind of tuck it into this jasmine right here. I know it'll be a lot of green, but it'll
be kind of two different tones of green right here. And I've got like pansies and things that
are just obviously not thriving. Why does this feel so dry? I don't think this is getting irrigation.
We're gonna have to do some investigating. I think because the emitter is down there,
I don't know if it has enough pressure. It has a one gallon. Oh, that's no good. Let me fix that.
So it had irrigation. We just did it wrong. So it wasn't really getting any water, and that's why
things started to get a little crispy, which is fine. We're gonna fix it now. We figured out the
issue. We're just gonna pop this up in here. I think I might go try to grab a little bit more
soil. This soil is rock hard, and the sweet potato vine is definitely going to be,
um, a more water-hungry plant. They definitely let you know if they're thirsty. So I'm gonna
grab just a little bit more soil and top up because just this pot, just like this, this
container is way too low for me. Okay, so we went in with the Ipomoea, and originally, I actually
had it tucked back here knowing that it would grow this way, but I decided, you know what,
I still have a few more shade plants. So we tucked in this begonia. It looks like like a
an angel wing begonia, begonia tuberose hybrid. This is the double delight blush rose, and you
can see there's one of the blooms. It's really pretty. I've never grown this one before. Um,
I have it in a few other spots, not having good luck with it. So, um, this is one of the ones that
I killed. It says full sun to part sun, and it says that it gets 14 inches tall. I don't think
this can handle sun. Um, it also says that it's an annual except for in zones 9b and above, so
maybe this will come back for me, but I'm definitely not gonna hold my breath. And then
we did fix the irrigation, and then I put the sheet moss on here, and this will help with the
water retention in here. And then once I get this a little bit wet, it'll make it so, see how
it's like kind of flat? Once I get it wet, it livens it back up a little bit and makes it so
it's not so flat and doesn't look so just kind of dull. So, but I do like using the moss. I just
think that it adds a nice touch. We're gonna end the day making a floral arrangement, and one of
you guys, Carmen, sent this out to me. And so, um, we're going to make a floral arrangement in it.
Normally what I would do is I would make a floral frog because this has such a large opening,
but I usually do that if I don't have a ton of flowers, and right now I have a ton of flowers.
So I'm just gonna just start shoving flowers in here and make as full of an arrangement as I
possibly can. I do think it's going to be a requirement for me to grab these scaviosa. I
only have three blooms right now, and I think I'm going to grab all three and bring all three in.
Before we get started, I'm going to go in with a quick packet of floral food. Um,
I probably should be using two of these because this is a large container, but I am not. I will
give that a good stir when I get my first couple stems in there, too. So I'm gonna go ahead and
harvest some things, and then I'll talk about everything that I harvest once I start putting
them in the floral arrangement. And here it is. My goal with floral arrangements is to always
overpack them. That's my biggest tip. More greenery than you think that you actually need,
and so I treated the Wicked Witch Coleus as though it is greenery, which it is, and then I did also
kind of treat my hydrangeas as though they are greenery. So I used hydrangeas to kind of like
fill out space, and then I'm letting the flowers kind of do all of the talking. So I've got Indian
Summer Rebecca. I've got Fifi Dahlia. I've got Petra's Wedding Dahlia. I have a amaranth in here.
This is the Emerald Tassel. So I've got this really long, beautiful piece, and then I've got
a couple little pieces that are tucked in here also. And then I've got Endless Summer Hydrangea,
and then I also have some other hydrangeas in here. This is the Limelight Hydrangea, and then
these are the Fama White Scabiosa, and I tucked all three of those in there. And so it's just
kind of a very full arrangement, and what I do like to do too is like this dahlia right here is
stuck in this hydrangea, so that's what I'll do is I'll go in and around the hydrangeas, and then
over on this side, this scabiosa is tucked in between the rebecca right here. So I like to kind
of just like layer things like that, so that way one piece can kind of like lay on top of somebody
else. So that's what I just kind of like to do is just make layers, and honestly like if you think
that it doesn't look good, just keep adding. Just add more. Add more and more and more and more until
it looks good. And the biggest tip is sometimes I can get away with only having like four or five
actual flowers, and I will use mostly greenery if my flowers are going to be impactful. I wouldn't
really call any of these impactful. Maybe the rebecca is impactful. If I have like a really
good impactful flower, I can get away with having mostly greenery and then just a few flowers
tucked in. And then this dahlia should open. Ideally, I would have gone in with a few things
that had some more height, but everything here has a pretty long stem on it, so it was kind of
hard finding some flowers that had really long stems, but I'm pretty happy with that. And it's
not a small flower arrangement. This is a really good-sized flower arrangement. It's huge. So I
think this is where we say goodbye. We transformed the side yard. We're still transforming the side
yard, and then we did a flower arrangement, and then we potted up a plant, and we actually potted
up three plants, and I keep getting flybys from hummingbirds. It's the time of the night where
they're out here, and they're trying to get that last little bit of nectar before they have to go
to bed, and so bird activity right about now is insane. So I'm gonna let them do their thing. I
hope you enjoyed this video. Thank you so much for making flower arrangements with me and hanging
out with me in the garden today. I'll see you in the next one. Bye, guys!
