On Reading Multiple Books at Once

So I'm currently reading seven books at the moment. I believe that's all. I don't
think I've forgotten anything but seven books. I kind of hate it.
I've never really been one to read multiple books at once. There were some
exceptions where I'd be reading a book for fun and then I'd have to read a book
for school so I'd be reading two books at the same time but apart from that
I really just focus on one book and I don't really have an issue with reading
multiple books at once. To an extent I think it works fine. It eventually gets
to that point where you're reading so many books you can't actually focus on
all of them and it's like I'm only reading three, say, and the rest of them
I've just had to put them down for a little while and I hate that feeling.
I really, really hate it. So it wasn't actually until this year that I
willingly started reading multiple books at once and it was all because of this
one. Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm. I decided to start reading this as kind
of like a just-before-I-go-to-bed read. I intended on reading a couple of
fairy tales here and there, get through a few a week, and then I'd be done in a few
months. I started this in March and I'm only a third of the way through this
book. The issue with this one is I think I just kind of forgot about it because
it's not one complete story. There's lots of short fairy tales. I'm able to read a
few, close the book, and it's not like I'm gonna forget anything. I'm not stopping
in the middle of a story. A few months later I started Ink Death by Cornelia
Funk and this I was reading during a read-a-thon. However, I had to close the
book very early on in the read-a-thon because it was just too much of a slow
read. With the read-a-thon I want to be able to read through as much as possible
and being bogged down by one book, it just doesn't work for me. I decided to
leave it for then and I'd pick it up once the read-a-thon had ended but by
that stage I'd read another four or five books and it just flitted from my mind
sort of thing. I forgot about this one as well. So it was only those two that were
sitting on the back burner for a little while. I'd still be reading other books
but just kind of forgetting about those ones. But things have gotten much much
worse recently. I'd started reading Furies of Cauldron a while ago. I can't
even remember when. Initially I was doing a buddy read and that didn't work out so
I put the book down and I decided to come back to it later. I eventually did
reread from the start and got to around the same point. Since then I have read a
good chunk of the book but this is the first case where priorities came up and
I had to close the book because I needed to read something else. I think with this
one it was because of university but it's just such a shame. The same kind of
thing has happened with Serafina. Priorities. I started this one. It was my
TBR jar pick for... I can't remember which month. It might have been August or
something like that. But then some other things came up and there were other books
that I had to read with deadlines and so I put this book down. So those are
four books that I'm currently reading but I haven't really picked any of them
up in at least a couple of months. In addition to that I'm reading Mortal
Engines by Philip Reeve. This is one of the books that I'm reading for
university. I'm supposed to have already read it by now technically but I haven't.
I just haven't. But I've started it. I've only read like 20 pages. I'm also
currently reading on my Kindle The Empress Chronicles by Susie Patello and
this one I need to read before October 30th because on that date I am posting a
review for the blog tour. This is the most recent case of I've had to pick up
this book and abandon everything else for the moment because I just need to
put all of my focus into this one. On top of all those books I'm also listening to
an audiobook. I don't really have much of an issue with this one because I just
listen to it when I'm driving to and from uni and stuff like that but it adds
up. It adds up. So I wanted to ask you guys what are your thoughts about
reading multiple books at once? Like I said I don't have a problem with reading
multiple books to an extent. I'd probably be okay with reading two to
three books one of which being an audiobook but I'm reading a lot more
than that and it's stressful. It's stressing me out because I don't like
having all these things sitting in front of me and they're just calling to me.
You need to finish me. You need to finish me. Thankfully I don't really have a
problem with getting books confused with each other. I'm pretty good with
that and overall remembering things isn't too bad. Usually if I haven't
picked up a book in a little while I'll reread the last page or two just to
refresh my memory and just kind of keep it going. I don't know. I just feel like
reading this many books is putting a lot of stress on myself and I want to get
out of this rut but I've got other books that I need to read by certain dates.
I've got to read a book for the little book club. There's another book for
university I need to have already read. There are some review books as well and
it's freaking me out. I've kind of come to the conclusion that by the end of
the year I want to have sorted this problem out. I'm hoping that I'm able to
do this. I've only got a few more weeks of university and even though November
is going to be hectic hopefully I'll have a little more time to focus on
finishing books and then in December I am going on vacation but there's a lot
of like flight times so I'm able to read a lot then. I don't know how much I'm
gonna do like for the rest of the trip when I'm like traveling around but I
don't know. I really don't know. Do any of you have this issue at the moment? You
just bogged down by so many books and you're just like what do I do kind of
thing or is it just me putting a ridiculous amount of stress on myself
that I don't need to? I just felt like I needed to rant a little bit today, get
that off my chest because it's been really niggling up my brain recently. I
was also kind of hoping that when I was filming I'd kind of just go into more
discussion-y things about reading multiple books at once but that didn't
end up happening. But to be honest I don't think I have too much in addition
to add about the whole reading multiple books at once thing. And with that I think
I'm just gonna finish up this video. I hope you guys enjoyed it. I hope it
wasn't weird and too ranty. Just thought of talking stuff out with you. Okay I'm
gonna go. See you next time. Bye!
