NY GIANTS PRACTICE REPORT: AUGUST 20, 2026
Aug 21, 2026
Here's your New York Giants practice report from their joint practice session against
the Miami Dolphins down here in Florida on Wednesday morning. Temperature 92 degrees
with a heat index on the field of 115. Humidity well above 80 percent. But these teams did get
a healthy two plus hour practice session in. A very good workout I might add. It involved full
pads. It involved a lot of hitting. It involved a very physical practice and also quite frankly
involved a lot of guys getting tackled and thrown to the ground. I think both head coaches could
honestly say these teams gave an awful lot of effort. All right overall there were about a
half a dozen scrapes when there was a lot of shoving. There were scrums. There were guys
jawing at each other pointing fingers yapping about and sidelines even emptying into big piles
of players. But fortunately nobody got injured as the result of those freckles. Now there was
an agreement between both coaches that if anybody threw a punch they were to be ejected.
Don't know exactly how many of the Dolphins were sent out of practice but Jermaine Illuminor the
Giants starting right tackle did get ejected by head coach John Harbaugh late during the session
for what coach Harbaugh said was a small and not a very aggressive punch. But he said hey rules are
rules. We told everybody if you threw a punch you would have to sit just like you would in an NFL
game and so Illuminor did get ejected. As far as what happened during the course of the practices
well according to everyone from the Giants they all said it was a really really good workout.
In fact Brian Burns said the Giants very difficult training camp to this point really helped them
and prepare for what was a very physical and again strenuous practice against another team.
Everybody seemed to agree that it was a very good thing and beneficial for the Giants.
Both sides of the ball saying that they felt real good about it. Brian Burns very very happy
with the defense said they could add a few more run fits and let some runs squeeze out
but was very happy with the defense and also Jackson Dodd very pleased by the offense saying
they started fast and even though at times they sputtered a tad they immediately bounced back
and they made an awful lot of big plays. John Hallbaugh himself did characterize it as a
really good practice session and said he felt the team was better for it. Now in addition to that
Andrew Thomas also was the other Giant who went to the podium to speak. Again same situation said
it was really good to be working against somebody else for a change. As far as some stars of the day
well in offense you have to go to Calvin Austin and Isaiah Likely who both consistently got open
and made plays time after time after time and also quite a surprise new running back Nadja Harris
got a handful of carries in team drills and looked very good. He looked quick he looked fluid and he
was very physical and punishing in trying to finish off his runs. Coach John Hallbaugh saying
afterwards they're still trying to ramp him up but it was good to see him out there. He said
that Harris wanted to get in there for some snaps and they did acquiesce and he did very very well.
On defense again really good day for all of the pass rushers but if we're going to isolate anybody
you have to say that Abdul Carter had a terrific day. The Dolphins pass protection had trouble with
throughout the course of the morning. Several times they held him several times they practically
wrapped him up and tackled him and threw him to the ground even drawing penalty flags. Really
great day for Abdul Carter. Also Paulson Adebo had a pick six down the Giants defense's right
sideline which was a sensational play as he read it out route perfectly jumped it and took it all
the way back for a touchdown. Kicking wise another terrific day for Dominic Zavada who was perfect in
all of his opportunities. Ben Soles had a couple of misses and again Zavada seems to have started
to inch ahead because he has certainly done better in the practice sessions than Soles had.
Well it's a lengthy practice report but that's what happens when you have a joint practice session
against another team. Remember Saturday's game is a four o'clock kickoff down here in Miami.
That'll do it for the practice report. Don't forget the New York Giants on
SI Media Network has all of your Giants news. I'm Paul Titino.
