Hey Longinos Navás Ferrer I was born in 1858 in Cabasés a town in Tarragona
located on the slopes of Monsant between Pinares Olivos and Lides
From a very young age I had an restless nature
I finished high school at just 14 years old and
in 1872 I began my university studies in Law
and ecclesiastical studies in the city of Barcelona
Three years later at the age of 17
I decided to enter the Jesuit novitiate
Despite the suppression of the Jesuits in Spain
following the September Revolution of 1878
To achieve that goal I had to travel secretly
hidden on top of a car among the cargo
It is covered by a tarp to reach Chateau d'Isette in southern France
But the times were changing and after the company was authorized to return to Spain I was able to
go back in 1877 with my colleagues
To continue my career at the Monastery of Santa María de Beruela
The years passed and I completed my studies in 1890
My first destination as a Jesuit priest
was the Salvador College in Zaragoza
Since my beginnings in Zaragoza in 1892 already 34 years old
I was in charge of the Natural History Museum of the College
Taught classes in Natural Sciences Agriculture and Cosmology
Physics Chemistry Physiology and Hygiene Theodicy and French
However I devoted all the time allowed
by my teaching duties to studying nature
Whenever I could I left school for my fieldwork such as
collecting insects lichens and plants for my herbariums
In 1899 I spent two years in Madrid
where people like Ignacio Bolívar an
entomologist and founder of the Spanish Society of Natural History were
They shaped my way of seeing science
Again in Zaragoza in 1902
along with a group of more than 80 naturalists
We founded the Aragonese Society of Natural Sciences carrying out
countless activities and publishing a
bulletin with the results of our work
At that stage of my life at 45 years old I had something pending to
obtain a university degree in Sciences
I started the corresponding studies
He completed his bachelor's exams in the
Natural Sciences section in September 1904
It was the passport that allowed me to move freely in the scientific world
In 1905 I was the only Spanish delegate
At the International Botanical Congress held in Vienna where
the revision of the Botanical Nomenclature Code was discussed
From those meetings I learned that complete freedom of scientific discussio
It admirably harmonizes with the courtesy and respect that should be shown to opponents
where personal or collective ideas are strongly supported
valuing reasons over voices
Where in the end each person cast their vote spontaneously and according to their conscience
After hearing the reasons both for and against that were presented
In my years devoted to scientific work
I investigated various fields such as geology paleontology
or biology and I interacted with other scientists of the time
like Ignacio Bolívar Lucas Mallada Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Ascensio Rodina José Pardo Sastrón or Pío Fontquer
My great interest in natural
sciences always led me to
excursions in various regions both in Spain and abroad
I have been able to know study and understand branches of science
such as botany and zoology The
circumstances of the civil war escalated
And I should have gone to Girona where in December 1938 I
was able to stay at the Sisters of the Poor
On the 24th the day before Christmas I suffered a
cerebral embolism and gave my soul to God seven days later
At the age of 80
What you are about to see is the result of my
activities as a naturalist over all this time
