I'm Kahlia Copper. I'm here with Peyton and Charlie and let's get it in with the grind.
Today for this episode of the grind we have WNBA all-star champ and MVP Kahlia Copper.
All right the first thing we're going to do here is get warm. So you're going to get in a good
stance, tap the ball back and forth and they are going to apply pressure to your knee, hip,
shoulders. Try to knock off your balance a little bit. Seven times seven are two things that good
leaders do. Communicate and lead by example. Oh big time. If you are on offense and you are
on the wing, you have a teammate that drives baseline, where do you go? I'm on the opposite
wing. Opposite wing. Corner. Corner. What do you do when you catch the ball? Shoot it. Knock it down.
Good work. There we go. All right we're going to continue to build on that where we lunge,
get that lower body going into some form shooting. So you're going to be hopping,
bouncing. I'm going to give you a clap. On that clap, we lunge. Boom. Push back to balance,
catch that pass, form shoot. Hey tell everybody a little bit about you. I'm Kahlia Copper. I'm from North
Philly University. Chicago Sky. What is your go-to move? Oh that's a great question. So I'm
really quick and I'm athletic. So in an ISO situation. So if I need a bucket, I'm just going to get it
and I'm going to go right back. All right we're going to work on our handle now. Work on a little
bit of control with the ball. So we're going to pound it, then we're going to wrap it. This is
where the control comes in. Wrap it between our right leg, catch it with that hand, pound again
to reset. Wrap. Pound. Pound. Wrap. Pound. Wrap. Pound. Pound. Wrap. Pound. Good. Pound. Wrap.
Pound. Good. Pound. Wrap. Pound. Yeah. Pound. Wrap. Pound. Good. All right we're all here. We're working on
our ball handling. We're going to go V4. So one, two, three, then we go cross. One, four, cross.
What's your favorite shooting drill? My favorite shooting drill is star shooting. I'm able to get
that conditioning in and I'm able to shoot while I'm tired. How many reps do you get a day? I like
to go for time. So I do want to shoot until my arms fall off. Helping me later on in the game
while I'm tired. But usually I'll go for about five minutes. All right we're going to do a drill
called follow the leader layup. All right. Ka is going to be our leader. So whatever layup she does
here, you guys try to do exactly the same things. Left foot, right hand. Good. No, stay on that side.
Good. Left foot, right hand. Good. Yeah. There we go. Boom. Oh yeah.
Nice job Charlie. Say challenge me. Say challenge me. Okay.
Oh step through. Left. Okay. In and out. Boom. Jump stop. Step through. Left. Nice. Okay. It's okay.
Jump stop. Step through. Oh good. All right we got another finish drill. We are going to be pesky
defenders working on your finishes. All right. So you're going to be here. You can play either way.
Make a move and attack. As you come by I'm guarding you on the ball. We've got these
pesky defenders here who are going to try to get swipe offs. Oh nice. Good high one. Good.
Oh. Oh. Oh get one. Oh good hands. Good hands. We almost got it. Nice. Good job. Sometimes I have bad games.
What do you do to respond when you have bad games? I have to have a short time memory. You know the
games come so quick in the W. So for me if it's about missed shots I'm in the gym earlier the next day
getting up more shots and I'm just trying to not think about it too much and be on to the next.
This show is called The Grind. What do you do to grind and work hard in your off season?
Off seasons are so important. More important for me to work on my body. Get a lot stronger.
But for me specifically this season I want to consistently knock down a three.
And I also think I have to be a better leader. I'm stepping into a big role this year.
So I'm working on my communication skills and making sure I'm bringing it every single day.
All right. We're doing a shooting game here. All right. You're going to shoot. Rebound. Pass to the
open person. Relocate. Same thing. Shoot. Rebound. Pass to the open person. Relocate. First player to
make five shots is the winner. Count them all out so we hear you. We know where you're at.
We got this? Got it. All right. Let's go. Start us off strong. Oh yeah. One. Oh yeah. She's got one.
Relocating. Good. It's all right. You got one. Oh she's got two. I got two. It's all right. It's
all right. Keep shooting. Keep shooting. There you go. That's what I'm talking about. She's got
one on three. She's shooting it. Kyle's not messing around. I got four. Four. Game time.
Let's add a little defense. Add a little defense. Game. Five. What are some of your biggest accomplishments?
I think 2021 I just had an overall great year. I won a WNBA championship. I got finals MVP.
I went straight to Spain. EuroLeague MVP. Spanish League champion and Spanish Cup
champion. So that was a year of straight wins for me and I was an all-star. All right. Now we're
going to do our five spot makes drill. So you're going to shoot from a spot. Once you make it, you
make as many in a row from that spot as you can. Once you miss, you go to the next spot. So we're
trying to add them up all the way around. All right. You got this? We're going to be here a long night.
What's the number to be? 13? 13. I think I should get 13 right here. Here we go.
There's one. There's two. There's three. Great job. Way to shoot it. Four. Yeah.
Five. Okay. Six. Good job. Top. Seven. String them. Eight. Nine. Yeah. Oh yeah. Ten.
Cashing out. Eleven. Yep. Eleven. We know we got 12. We know we got 12. This is the big one.
This is the big one. 13. No pressure. 14. She likes pressure. She's an MVP. 15.
16. Yeah. 17. We thrive on pressure. 17. There we go. That's why we ran it back.
That's why we ran it back. Good job. Good job. I'm Kahlia Copper
and that's a wrap for the grind. Good job, Charlie. Good job, Peyton. Thank you. We out. Let's go!
