Practice seeking out open space on the court in this game we call Island Hopping.
Use a half court size space and use four cones to make a rectangular playing area.
These are the islands. Here's how it looks.
Choose two players to be pirates and send them to the middle.
Give the rest of the players balls and space them out among the four islands.
Are you ready?
On your call, they start dribbling from cone to cone while the pirates try to tag them.
Tags only count when players are between cones. The islands are safe.
When a player gets tagged, they set their ball to the side and become a pirate.
Play until everyone has been caught, then pick two new pirates and start again.
Island Hopping takes most tag games to the next level,
pushing players to choose where they want to go and how to get there.
In the actual game, ball handlers use quick decision making to choose where
to go on the court to protect the ball and help the team score.
We got two left. Oh, we got a winner!
