Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Calgary Flames suffered a devastating 6-1 loss to the Seattle Kraken in their final home opener at the Saddledome. The poor performance has led fans to embrace \"tanking\" in hopes of securing a high draft pick, specifically targeting generational talent Landon DuPont, as the team struggles with a lack of offense and a boring defensive style.
Call it an overreaction, but fans of the Calgary Flames are completely prepared to embrace the
tank and abandon for Landon, as the season already looks over as a home ice shellacking
to the Seattle Kraken, and the final home opener at the Saddledome has squandered all hope.
It's gonna be a long season. We're gonna get to all that more in this video,
but first we want to welcome you to Flames Digest, I'm Mark Griffith. If you're new around here and
you love the Flames, make sure to subscribe so you can stay up to date on all the latest news,
updates, reports, and rumors revolving around your Calgary Flames. We would love to welcome

we're in a great spot as a franchise, and it all begins with kind of last night's game.
If you missed this one, you didn't miss much, to be quite honest with you. The Flames,
in the final home opener at the Saddledome, the final season opener at the Saddledome,
to what many people are saying isn't all that strong of a Seattle Kraken team,
we got smoked 6-1. It was 3-0 after the first period, and you're thinking,
oh my gosh, this is going to be quite the year. I mean, I'm not going to say everyone played
horribly. I'm not going to sit here and say that, you know, certain guys look so amazing because,
I mean, when you lose by five goals, no one was excellent, obviously. Some guys look decent,
of course, but yeah, they didn't look super, super great. If I pull up the entire box score here,
I don't know why, there it is. It's loaded in now. It's loaded in so many times, but you can
take a look, zoom in. If you're watching this on a TV, it's going to be tiny, unless you have
a massive 100-inch TV. Wouldn't we all like to have a 100-incher? But you can feel free to go
ahead looking at everyone's stats specifically. The way I like to do it is kind of just focus
on the guys who got on the score sheet and the goalie as well. So Dustin Wolf, statistically,
a horrendous game. Six goals against on just 32 shots against, 6-10 goals against average,
well, 6.1, you know what I mean, and an 8-12 save percentage. Not good at all. Yes,
there were some deflections left hung out to dry for certain plays, but again, that's, I mean,
there's no excusing that. It's not like he played well. Again, I mean, six goals against. He made
some great saves too. There was one, I think it was in the second period, that was absolutely
excellent on Jordan Eberle, but again, not his best game. Ryan Strohm leads the Flames in goals
this season. I thought for sure, you know how the Flames always do the first goal scorer
challenge or whatever it is, doing it a bit differently this year, but I thought for sure
it was going to be Siplikov. So of course, of course I chose him, but no, Ryan Strohm gets
the lone goal in this one, assisted by Sharon Govich and Zeri as well. So those are the guys
that got on the score sheet. And again, there's no excuse to it. It's not like we played all that
well, but you know, people are already saying it's over, which is completely fair when you
get smoked, but it's all part of the process. I mean, if we get into the standings here,
technically we're last because we have one game played with a loss and a minus five
goal differential. For whatever reason, in these standings, it has Anaheim last, you know,
in the division, but they haven't played yet. The only other team giving us a run for money,
you can actually see it right beneath my head right now, is Chicago. They've played a couple
games now, I believe, but they lost six nothing last night as well. It was funny. The Flames
were getting smoked first and then Chicago and Vancouver followed suit. And then Vancouver,
all of a sudden, made that game generational. Nine seven Oilers Canucks between our two biggest
rivals. Wasn't that a little bit of a crazy one, but not unexpected at all. But Flames fans had
some awesome reactions across the internet last night. And the first place I looked was the
Instagram account for the Flames. Some good comments there. I mean, see a red hub here.
That guy actually follows me on Instagram. Feel free to go follow me. Mark underscore Griffith
on Insta. I'll follow you back. But he says a sea of a red hub says DuPont coming home. And that
was, you know, obviously the most liked comment. I literally looked at this 15 minutes after the
game was over after the post was over. So DuPont coming home. I think that's how a lot of people
felt. Embrace the abandon for land in Calgary kid. Yes, another defenseman, but he does look
generational men. We throw that word around too much these days. Another guy says, correct is
literally ECHL level. We would struggle even in the AHL. Martin Pospisil is the only NHL level
guy here. Flames hockey baby. Yes, that is just pure rage bait. I'm sure that's not how that
person actually feels. Um, if it is, I mean, I'm going to say everyone's entitled to their own
opinion, but probably not the smartest hockey brain there. Another guy here says the Owen
84 dream is still alive. And then right beneath that, I think that's Gurpal Singh. One of those
guys who writes all the times for, uh, I believe it's the wind calm. It has the little tank gift
going in there, but it's so funny that the first season of 84 games seems like what's going to
genuinely feel like the longest season in flames history, just because of how bad we're going to
be. Yes, technically it is because it's 84 games. It's longer, but it's just going to feel so long
because we are just so, so bad. Um, some more comments. Uh, another guy says Igor Shosturkin
has the same amount of goals as the Calgary flames. Wicked goal by Shosturkin last night for the
Rangers. Super great to see, but yeah, same amount of goals as a same as Ryan Strome, uh, more than
Cyplakov. Another person says, I see the fourth overall pick because we'll never get top three.
And that's the pessimistic way to look at, you know, tanking is that, yeah, we can finish last
in the league. We're not going to win either lottery. We're going to get the fourth pick,
which I mean, I guess is valid based off of our history. Another person puts the classic photo of
sad dome, uh, which it really was last night, despite the super awesome video to start the
game, the, the tribute to the dome and all the years of the flames there. That was really,
really cool to see all of that. You know, you had the late Johnny Gaudreau in there,
Peter Maher. It was just super cool to see. And Lanny and attendance was awesome as well.
Uh, and then another person says, Landon DuPont, you are a Calgary flame. Another way to get on
Let me actually go into this one. I like this window bigger. Uh, then I went over to the flames
of Reddit and this was hilarious because this was posted the instant I fired it up, but do it for
DuPont, not abandoned for Landon, but do it for DuPont and just posted his highlights with the
silver tips last season, which is just hilarious to just get on board with, uh, with abandoning
for Landon and get the highlights going, get yourself excited. I thought that was hilarious
that that went up right away. Another meme to get us going. Here's the classic Wolverine template,
but where is my goal scorer? And just looking fondly at a photo of Sunya. Couldn't we have
used some goal scoring last night? I don't think soon. You have would have won us this game.
We kind of got smoked and it wasn't all that fun to watch, but, um, yeah. Couldn't you use a goal
scorer like soon yet, even, you know, like a guy like Brandon Offman who might be part of the
future. Why the heck was he not in this game? I don't, I don't get why he wasn't put in, but, uh,
yeah, that was a funny one as well. Uh, more here. One person says positives. Parekh looks incredible.
And I liked the look of Hanzik as well. Negatives. Oh boy. Where do I begin? And it's true. If I were
to pick one guy who stood out to me, it would be Hanzik. Parekh didn't play bad. He was pretty
dynamic at times. Like he's always going to be, but again, you can't say that he had a great game.
Um, I also didn't hate the look of Nemitz. I thought, I thought he looked okay as well,
but negatives. Yeah. Where do I begin? There were so many. Another person says this team
might be dead last this year, which lines up for a franchise center. Isn't that exactly what we're
looking for? I say it's already over. Maybe it's just the beginning more here. Uh, this is from
the, in the dome pod, they say game one recap, dome takeaways. Zane Parekh is the reason to tune
in in this desert of offense. He's the guy who makes you lean forward. That dish to Zeri was
ridiculous. The rest of the team will learn to expect the unexpected from him. Yeah. There were
certain places where he looked awesome and Zane Parekh. I want him to be my favorite player on
the flames. He's exactly what I've always loved my entire life. An offensive defenseman, just a
dynamic one. And he had some pretty flashy plays last night and he's entertaining to watch.
Continues by saying Hanzik and Nemitz look good. Something to build on. Would agree there. Also
says grid and Coronado had some looks, but that line got caved in. They did not impress me. They
were not as good as I was hoping they'd be as our top line. And it's not like we were playing against
all that great of a defense in the Kraken as well. Uh, it says I can live with a lot of losses,
even ugly ones like this in year two of a rebuild Husker hockey, making it this joyless is the
frustrating part. Uh, only 83 more to go. And it's true. Husker might just be the perfect coach for a
because he doesn't coach winning hockey. To be honest, I have nothing against the guy. I'm sure
with a better lineup, he would do better like any coach would, but he just has such a boring brand
of defensive hockey that shirt almost got us into the playoffs a couple of years ago. But last year,
it wasn't fun to watch this year. Not fun to watch either. So hopefully that gets a little bit
better. A couple more thoughts here. One from sea of red central saying, yeah, this team is cheeks.
So instead of abandoned for land and we'll get the, I don't even know what to call it for Alexi
Joseph yet, but we'll, we'll find a name for it. That would be the franchise center. There are
other ones up and coming in this draft, but, uh, I just love the term cheeks. Me and my younger
brother say that all the time when someone's horrible or a team is horrible more. So yeah,
this team is cheeks and it really was last night. Last little thought here is from chase saying
yes, this is what I agree with. He has the crack and looking like the hurricanes out against the
flames. LOL. He's so bad. LOL. Yeah. If we can make the crack and look that good. I don't even
want to know what we'll be like when we play Colorado in, I believe a week's time. Um,
it's just, Oh my goodness. We look so, so bad. I'm sure we can't be that bad all the time,
but man, oh man, did we look bad. Now let's get into the comment of the day to wrap up this video
as we love to do here on the channel comes from yesterday's video. Of course, before the game
started, but great one here from good old guitar memoir saying I like therapy as an a, I think he
leads by example and gives you what he has every night. He didn't show up all that much last night
to me, to be quite honest, but who did also says Carolina has Sebastian at center. He is a PPG guy.
So I think that guy is a little bit out to lunch and that's true. That's actually something that I
said back in the summer in a video, I remember someone saying you don't need a, you know,
bonafide number one generational center to win the Stanley cup. Look at Carolina. I thought,
I mean, Oh, who's not your Crosby, but he's still elite. You know, he's still really good,
better than anything we have or close to anything we've had probably in the 21st century, to be
honest, he's, he's very underrated. It's like people saying Barkov isn't, you know, you need
So that is quite true. The guy yesterday that said that again, don't agree, but finishes it
with a go flames, go with four fire emojis. And no matter what, no matter how many ugly losses
this year, we'll all be saying that at the end of the day. Thank you so much for watching this
video. Please subscribe. If you like what you saw here today and have a wonderful rest of your day.
