We made it to Allen Cave.
Which is not really a cave, it's really just a huge rock overhang, but it's called Allen
Cave.
This is your stair master right here.
This is pretty rough right here.
Unfortunately it gets rougher than this.
I'm the one carrying the pack, remember.
Did you get that?
Look at that.
This is fall in Smokies, that's for sure.
Two more.
Almost three more miles.
Yeah, yeah, and it gets hard now.
Now the fun starts.
Separate the boys from the men.
Right.
Holy crap, it's a snake.
What is that?
What kind of snake is that?
I can't tell.
It's a baby.
Oh, what are you?
I almost stepped on it.
What did you see?
That snake.
Really?
It was a little brown snake with the color of a copperhead.
Probably a copperhead.
Okay, it starts going up here, and it goes up for a long way.
This is the little reprieve, and it's going to start going up, and I'll get some of this video.
Ice elevation gain of Chimney Tops.
Chimney Tops is 1,500.
This is 2,800.
No, no, it's over five miles, but most of it is over probably the last three and a half.
That's good.
That means you're getting a good workout.
This is a natural stair master.
Why is it we always get a squirrel busting at us on the trail?
I don't know.
Every time.
That's a great tree.
All right, so we finally made it.
Just a little past my last video.
Here are the stairs.
They're steep, like a 45 degree angle.
Boy, this is taking a lot.
That's true.
If you're in a hurry, you're going to miss out.
This is your second mountain to summit hiking.
You did Chief Lodge Pole Peak in Glacier National Park, and now you've done La Conte.
People that hike are friendly, by and large.
It's hard to get a spot up here, that's for sure.
