Florida Gators SILENCE Texas! QB of the FUTURE Emerges + Week 7 MADNESS
Oct 20, 2026
Boys and girls, welcome back to High Top Sports.
Happy Monday.
Good to see you.
One hell of a week of college football.
Down goes everybody.
Now, the big question is,
is that do we need to see 24 teams in the playoffs after this
week or does this week prove we need 24 teams in the playoffs?
A lot to talk about here on this beautiful Monday morning.
Good to see you.
Sit back, relax, and let's get right into it.
Come on.
boys and girls ladies and gents good
to see you welcome back be sure to smash the like button
and subscribe this show this show is of course brought
to you by Price Picks joining me this
evening is my guy Cowboy Ty both of us
on the road here after a phenomenal week of college
football week seven is in the books we're going
to talk Florida football Tremell Jones your
thoughts your opinions your FSU they kind
of got screwed there at the end now that the phantom
holding call uh with two Hail Marys kept them
from keeping it well it was interesting against
Miami showing that everybody this week I mean
from top to bottom is mortal in college football
which we talked on Friday
when we talked about 2014 playoffs we were like well I wasn't but
people were like nobody's gonna watch the sport is dying
and then you get this masterpiece of a
weekend showing what showing you why people continue
to turn in your thoughts of the weekend
time dude we said it was going to be the greatest week
of college football and it did not disappoint
because every game i mean the ohio state indiana game
the way that game ended uh you got the florida
game with the way they came back down 17 to 3
when everybody was like oh my god uh you got the
georgia auburn game when gunner stockton fumbles
the football florida state game with the hail
Marys, the BYU game at the
end of the game where people were calling for P.I.
I mean, every game. Who's not
watching this football? Like, seriously.
And then you get 24 teams in a playoff.
We just showed that 24 teams can beat
anybody at this point in college football.
And I tell you what, man. I'm
excited for it. I tell you what, I'm
excited for it. I think it's going to be great.
I think it's a great angle, right? That just goes
to show you that the parity
in college football continues to grow.
It's been growing. In any
given week, anybody can
win, right? We felt like two weeks ago,
Georgia was the outright number one dog after they took
down Alabama. It felt like Notre Dame was the number one outright dog.
Miami, although they're
so undefeated, don't look to be the best team in the country.
BYU won't get enough credit for this
win against Notre Dame, but they won a good game in BYU.
And here's what's interesting, right? It
kind of goes back to the March Madness a little bit, right?
College football, what makes it great
is the home field advantage.
And that, to me, is what I would put my hand up for.
I know the first round's going to be at home,
but I would like to see more rounds.
Honestly, up until that championship game,
which I know that game is historically in neutral sites
for most sports outside of hockey, basketball, and baseball.
But outside of that, what makes college sports so great
is that home field advantage.
And Notre Dame going to BYU,
although taking that loss to BYU is tough,
it makes their schedule a bit tough,
it's not the end of the road for them.
That is a good loss, if you will, which that is a thing nowadays.
We know Ohio State, who lost to Texas,
which has been forgotten about, if you will.
They're going to be probably ranked number two in the country.
If not number one, I would assume you would put Miami, then Ohio State.
BYU, I would probably put higher, but they're not going to get there.
I wouldn't see it just because of their schedule.
But Ohio State, getting it done against Indiana and a hard knock one.
You got to make sure we give KTP some flack.
He thought it was going to be a 21-0 blowout, which was not the case.
We didn't even hit the 21 mark.
Yeah, we didn't even break it.
Outside of a missed flub here by our wide receiver in Indiana,
we could see some, you know, it would have been a different story.
But let's talk about Florida versus Texas.
Down 17-3.
Felt like the game was over.
I've had my discussion on Sober Sundays.
I'm excited to get your thoughts, your perspective.
You've been part of the conversation.
With which quarterback should be in play here?
That's going to be the conversation now for two weeks.
We had it all offseason.
We felt like we were settled in with Aaron Philo.
Out comes Trammell.
Was Trammell perfect?
Not by any stretch of the imagination.
Was he great?
No.
But was he good?
Did he find ways to win?
Absolutely.
Did he provide a moxie to this team
that was needed against a good Texas football team?
Absolutely.
And now the question is going to be for two weeks,
is he the guy moving forward or do
you re-evaluate things for the next two weeks?
Look, I've had my opinion on it and we'll talk more about it.
But from the outside perspective,
you've seen this thing as a whole unfold.
What are your thoughts?
I'll tell you, man.
Trammell did things that I didn't know he was capable of.
He ran the offense perfectly,
and that's what I was wondering if he had.
We knew he had big playability.
Like, he could throw the deep ball.
He could do this.
But could he run within the offense?
And I think he proved that.
I think he ran that offense very true, and he made plays with his legs,
and he's more dynamic as a runner more than Phila.
if he's going to run the offense like that
I think you have to add that aspect
of him being able to run better
than Philo and I think that's going to cause
a lot more teams problems moving forward
this Florida team so I
personally and I think I said this
I think Philo is going to run the offense to a tee
and then I said we said that Trammell could possibly
take this job later on
and I think it's going to happen I think you
cannot sit back and look at this and go
you're 4-2 right now you have two L's
5-2
And you're moving forward, and if you want a chance at this playoff,
we might have to run the tape.
So I think you just have to go with your guy,
and I think you have to run Trammell out there again.
I think he has earned another start.
I don't think you should lose your job because of an injury,
but this was a close battle all year anyways,
and no one really knew who was going to get it.
So I think Trammell has earned his spot to get another start.
After two losses in a row, and the offense didn't look great,
Trammell ran that thing perfectly against one
of the best defenses in the country.
And that's what impressed me.
It was against Texas on the road.
Imagine what he can do against somebody
else with not as high a caliber.
And that's what impressed me.
Overcame a lot.
And I have to agree.
That was my thing.
I agree with you.
It's tough to lose your job to an injury, right?
And I believe the guy that comes
in and fulfills that role for why you're out,
has to snatch the job, has to take it,
has to give you a reason to question it.
And I believe that he's done that.
And Sumrall spoke about it after the fact,
and we'll hear about him later on today
and maybe some more insight on it.
They've got two weeks to kind of drag this thing along,
and I think they will, as they should,
to keep Georgia on their heels as much as possible.
But when you watch the game, in my opinion,
you kind of nailed it on the head,
and that was the big thing that I said,
is that there was never a question.
And look, to be honest with you,
Trammell didn't win how a lot of people
thought Trammell would win. He didn't win with his arm.
His arm wasn't at full capacity and not
that it was injured, but it didn't show me.
I think there's more left on the table, if you will,
right? He hit some big time throws,
the fourth and 12 to Dallas Wilson, of course, but missed a
lot of big throws too, right?
He wasn't perfect in any aspect of the game, but the things that he did
bring, right? His ability to expand the pocket,
to extend plays, keep things alive. That was what
this team needed for the last couple of weeks.
And that was huge for Tremell Jones. And you're
right. The biggest question for us and for you and me was,
can he run this offense? Can he come in
and be comfortable? And I still felt hitches.
I saw a lot of things that I poked out in the
offseason, waiting to throw the ball.
Not second guessing, but almost delayed. I need the ball to
be there a little bit sooner. Philo does that very well.
But if the pocket isn't clean, things
go awry for Aaron Philo.
The pocket was much cleaner for Tremell Jones this go around. Was
that because, you know, this defense
had to respect the fact that he could move with
his feet. It was given the
fact that, hey, we were able to run the ball
more efficiently than we had in the previous
two weeks. All those things are true.
You know, the other big thing, too,
and some people were kind of, you know,
I think Coach kind of nailed it on the head. This
defense played damn good football, right?
It was the first time in
what is it, seven weeks now, that
we played complimentary football.
We answered the buck on both sides
of the ball. We haven't done that in seven
games were four and five and two that's
the first time we've done that even against FAU even against
Campbell we had questions on defense that were unanswered
and I would assume and I assume that
we could figure it out that the offense could carry
the load through those those dark times
although it did not for those first two weeks
or those two weeks that we took the L but the defense
stepped up big time moment for them against
a what should be a high prolific offense given the
talent that surrounds this team it hasn't
been though right I think there has that has to be
taken into consideration it looks great
on paper Texas offense it hasn't been good it was it still
wasn't good Arch Manning is just
not who I think people thought he could be there was a lot of
conversation we all had when does he come back I
was like there's no way he comes back because
that is a the the ultimate failure for him
but it looks like he's got to come back and it does he
come back to Texas is going to be another question
that's another conversation for another day but
Look, this is a typical overreaction, possibly, could be, maybe.
They also only have two losses, and it's wild how from week to week
your perspective of the season can change, right?
Florida fans now, we're back in it, we're looking at it.
You take down a big-time Texas football team,
you're looking at your schedule.
You've got Georgia who looks mortal.
They lost to Auburn, who you beat.
You've got Oklahoma who took another L to a very good Kentucky team,
and then you've got Kentucky, right?
And then Vanderbilt and Florida State.
And Florida State, none of these teams you can't sleep in.
You can't.
None of them are just guaranteed wins.
So mathematically, yes, Florida is in the playoff hunt.
They still have a massive road ahead of them,
as does every SEC team does, though, right?
I honestly believe that, like, there's got to be question marks
about three lost teams getting in.
I mean, this is the wildest football season I've ever seen.
One of the wildest football seasons I've ever seen.
I mean, you go and you look, and you don't think home field matters.
Ole Miss went into Florida, and they got absolutely rolled.
Florida went into Mizzou and got absolutely rolled.
And then Mizzou went into Ole Miss and got absolutely rolled.
But Florida's biggest wins are on the road.
You know what I mean?
Like, that's the crazy part.
You say that, but we go to – we go to – we go to – where do we go?
Actually, no.
Ole Miss was at home.
We won there.
Auburn.
Auburn was on the road, and now this one.
So we've got two big wins on the road.
So, yes, it's an advantage, but, again,
it just shows you the parity in college football right now
where you're right.
A three-loss team, you have to take it into consideration.
Look, and this isn't any disrespect to the ACC.
The ACC is just nowhere near caliber from top to bottom
as the Big Ten and the SEC.
And the Big 12 has shown a lot of love, man.
They have played some good football.
Houston's a good football team.
I've been high on them all year long.
They get it done. The Pokes cover like I thought
they would. But all in all, Houston's
a very good team with Connor Wingman and then
Austin Armstrong defense.
And then, of course, BYU taking down Notre Dame.
Texas Tech is obviously going to be in the conversation. You've got
three legitimate football teams
in the Big 12 that are going to give you
fits that you're going to have to look at,
that you're going to have to consider. The Big 10,
you've got Indiana, you've got Ohio State,
you've got Northwestern that's still
rolling and then here comes
the Bruins they're still undefeated you've got four solid teams
there so where do you go for this 12 team playoff
and look it feels like man I wish we had 24 this
year now there's still a lot of football left
but but there right now I would love it I would love
it yeah I mean you could really legitimately give 24 teams in this year
and be like man they could
win oh man they could beat that team oh they could beat
that team and it's not out of the
realm right now like if you go down from one
to 24 they can play football i mean you better show
up and play and if you don't show up
and play you're gonna get smacked around it ain't like
back in the old days where you could like go through
the motions a couple weeks you better
show up and play every single day
if not you're gonna you're gonna get your ass kicked and we've
seen it there's no sleeping there is no sleeping through
your schedule i mean you never could sleep
through a lot of schedules, right?
But even more so this year,
seeing what Auburn was able to do to Georgia,
to see what Tennessee did to Alabama.
And am I surprised with Tennessee and Alabama?
No, I thought Alabama would be able to overcome
the adversity with this defense.
The Tennessee defense showed me
what they could do against Texas.
They brought in George McIntyre late.
That offense, and this is why I always compliment Heupel.
And I think people love to kind of hate on Heupel,
but Heupel always puts out a good product.
in Tennessee. It's a well-rounded football team
year in and year out. It feels like they're
always kind of a day late and a dollar short
for whatever reason, but they're
in the conversation right now.
You take down Alabama, their losses
to their lone losses to Texas,
which they now have two losses.
I mean, the ACC is
completely wide open right now.
And, I mean, it's
must-see TV, regardless of
12-team playoffs, 24.
You're tuning in any given week
to see how this thing can unfold.
This has probably been the most exciting college football season
I think I've ever witnessed so far as we get halfway through the year.
Agreed.
Just because, like, I don't know week to week.
Like, I can get out of here and I can talk about it
and I think about what's going to happen.
And then they could go in there and just get absolutely throbbed.
And, you know, that Ohio State-Indiana game, Indiana lost that game.
They gave that game to Ohio State.
Ohio State didn't win that game.
Indiana gave it to them.
You know, when you have two missed field goals and, you know,
You turn the ball over in a bad spot, fumble twice with eight snaps.
You give them both the ball, and you still have a chance to win it.
And if Nick Mars just realizes where
he is on the field, they do win it.
So, listen, I don't know who's going to win this thing this year.
I have no idea.
But I'm excited to just watch the rest of the year
because every single game I feel like I'm on the edge of my seat.
I got the four screens, YouTube TV.
I'm just going through all of them.
I need eight screens.
I can't even afford $3 million enough anymore.
Yesterday, we 100% did not have enough TVs.
It was fun to watch.
Here's the new updated AP Top 25.
Miami, number one.
BYU, coming in at two.
So there, I'm wrong.
I didn't even realize this.
I had it queued up ready to go,
but I didn't look at it in detail before the show.
BYU does jump Ohio State, as they should.
I love seeing that.
Glad to see the AP pool adjusting.
Then Ohio State, then Notre Dame, then Georgia, Indiana, Ole Miss,
Texas Tech starting to sneak up and start to hang on to their spot.
In Florida, right back into the top 20, they jump Northwestern,
who's still a one-loss football team.
SMU, two losses.
Mizzou now has two losses.
Interesting to see us jump them after they beat us,
but massive win against a very reputable team like Texas.
How we're sitting behind Texas, that's beyond me.
I was going to ask that.
How are they – like, what is the difference between –
like, Florida should be 19 and Texas should be 20.
Like, what are we doing?
Yeah, well, it's – I mean,
splitting hairs because we both have two losses.
We both have a loss to an outranked team, right?
And then a – well, no, Texas has two losses technically
to two unranked teams.
So, no, I don't see the math.
The math ain't math in here for me.
But we're splitting hairs.
But, I mean, this is the thing.
When you look at this for Florida fans,
like, yeah, you're in spitting distance.
You control – I genuinely believe you control your own destiny
because on your schedule, you play number 12, Kentucky.
You play number five, Georgia.
So is it there mathematically?
Without a shadow of a doubt.
You got to go get it, though.
You got to go tackle it and handle it.
You don't need anything to fall in front of you to get there.
It's there for the taking.
Can Florida do that?
For me, I said two weeks ago, after the loss to South Carolina,
I didn't have much that I could lean on.
There wasn't much promise.
After last night, I feel much more confident.
I feel much more sound in this defense.
They finally are starting to show what I thought they could be, right?
This talent that we've heard about, that we've talked about,
the strength and conditioning showed up on Saturday,
which was very exciting.
That, to me, is what I needed to see.
Losing football games, and here's the thing.
When I did my season predictions, I had us 9-3.
I had us losing to Mizzou, and I had us dropping to Texas.
So up until this point, when I was sitting back in August
looking at this schedule, looking at this team,
if you would have told me we were 5-2 at this point
I'd have been like here we go
right and now
when we were 4-2 last week my concern was
how we looked but now we're 5-2
and all of a sudden we look like how
I thought we would I thought we were gritty
on offense we would find a way to score points
we could will we be as explosive
as I would like will we be lights
out with quarterback play no I didn't
think any quarterback that we put in there would be
this you know a Heisman candidate
but can they help us win football games
yes that's what I saw on Saturday
and I thought this defense would be what it was it only allowed
two offensive touchdowns one of those came from a punt return
and the other were field goals where
their points came from and look to be honest with you
that last minute touch with big throw by Arch
there those are going to happen
but outside of that first scheduled drive Florida played a damn
good football game on the defensive side of the ball
so kudos to those guys yeah I mean if you go
That defense, I saw in the second half a different team.
They came with more energy.
You could just see it.
It felt different than what you've seen over the last couple weeks.
They weren't going through the motions anymore.
They just battled.
It was absolutely impressive what I saw
because you could just see the energy switch.
When you see that energy switch, man.
Another thing that I'm going to talk about.
No one's going to talk about this.
but when Stockton came back in that football game
when he couldn't even walk
and he's in motion, he's out there throwing blocks.
I said, that's the guy you want on your football team.
That dude couldn't even walk on the sidelines.
He went back and he said, I'm going back in.
And he's throwing blocks when he couldn't even walk five minutes ago.
So kudos to man.
I'll tell you that's toughness.
And that's what you want to see on your football team.
Cause I can tell you that alone will get your defense fired up.
Seeing your offensive guys wanting to go back out there,
even if they can't walk.
I'm just telling you, that brings a lot of energy to your team,
and it's a lot of good motivation right there.
So that's big for me, and I'm really impressed with how they did.
I couldn't agree more.
Bailey Stockton, I thought he was done.
The Achilles took him out for a long time.
It was scary there for a minute, but his heart.
And here's the thing for Florida fans, too, to be excited about.
This team's beat up.
I mean, we were at seven weeks
of football without a bye week, and we saw it.
It was starting to take its toll.
The SEC schedule was starting to weigh in on us, so a rest is needed.
I think for all teams, Georgia, of course, they take the L to Auburn.
It's a long schedule, man.
It's a long season for SEC teams.
And look, I think the Big Ten is dealing with it a little bit,
but the SEC week in and week out,
you're looking left, you're looking right.
The matchups are intense.
Congratulations, boys and girls,
because this show is brought to you by PrizePicks,

It is time to get up after it.
This week, we're rocking and rolling, feeling pretty good.
But our guy, Micah Alejado from Hawaii.
Then we've got, of course, King Miller
with USC getting some rush touchdowns.
I know we don't like having you around these parts,
but I think Ashton Daniels is going to use
a little legs in this upcoming week
for some nice football to get him more in his rushing yard.
You can now get in on the action

PrizePicks, it is good to be right.
Take a look here.
We've got, obviously, Florida taking down Texas 27-24.
But let's talk about this Ohio State Indiana game.
Again, we had our guy in KTP thinking it was going to be 21-0 blowout.
Indiana's defense is what I was leaning on.
I took Indiana in the points, which was three and a half.
I lost by four.
I mean, it's as close as you could ask for.
You know what I mean?
I'm taking the L.
It's going to show up as an L in the pick-ems column.
But this is how I intended the game to go.
I said Ohio State will win this football game.
I genuinely believe that.
But I thought Indiana was going to be able to keep it close
because of how good their defense is.
But Josh Hoover is not Fernando Mendoza.
And we found that out this week.
Just an atrocious game from him.
20 of 40.
Again, 300 yards.
Kind of find himself late there at the end.
But was not there when you needed him.
Right?
I was watching this game, mid-Florida game.
Julian San, however, goes down out for a couple of weeks.
That is going to be something to monitor for Ohio State.
Very good football team.
Have a ton of talent year in and year out.
So it is interesting to see these teams,
these are two good teams, go at it.
We've seen Ohio State now go up against a close one against Texas,
which is another great defensive football team.
Indiana, who, again, I think is one
of the better defensive teams in the country.
That has what they have made their living on.
If you watch their games, Northwestern,
Nebraska, they've been playing with fire.
And we said that when we previewed the game.
The fire finally bit them.
Ohio State just played their game.
Ohio State didn't do anything more, didn't do anything less.
Ohio State has issues
it's their inability I believe
to kind of explode like they have
in the past Julian Sand has
his things that hold him back
but he's very consistent him being
out for a couple of weeks they've got a stretch
coming up here Ohio State
and again we talk about the
SEC being wild but the Big Ten
could get a bit dicey here over the
next couple of weeks yeah I mean
this game to me I was
this was definitely one part of my fourth screen
in the 12 o'clock noon games
Um, man, and I was watching the game and like, you know,
Hoover missed a couple of blows or whatever,
but I'm going to tell you, man,
Charlie Becker is a baller.
That dude, he is as good as advertised.
I mean, you know, you can say what Jeremiah Smith,
clearly the best wide receiver in the country.
There's no doubt about it.
But I'm going to tell you right now,
Charlie Becker might be number two
because that dude is an absolute ball.
If that ball is around him
and he gets his hands on it, he's catching it.
It don't matter where it is.
But going to this game, like, if you sit there and you look,
I'm telling you, Indiana gave it away.
Ohio State did not take this game.
And this is honestly a game now with Sane being out.
I think Ohio State had to win because you get two Ls,
and you played a couple games without Sane.
Flaherty did not look ready at all.
He's a true freshman.
He did not look ready in this football game.
He didn't look like he knew where anything was going.
I think this is a really – and honestly,
I don't think it's a bad loss for Indiana
because you weren't going to win
30 straight games anyway and win another national
title, he needed to lose somewhere.
So, it almost looked like Cignetti
was almost relieved, too.
We got our L out of the way.
We got it out of the way. Yeah. Look, there's two teams that
lost this weekend. It's Notre Dame and Indiana
that I don't believe
matters. And you
may say, you can lean on that and go, well, this is why
the 2014 playoff is going to make this
worse. It doesn't matter now
with a 12-team, right? So,
these teams were never going to be affected
by the one loss. That was where this 12-team play
I think what has to be taken into consideration for college football,
and I get it, it's like, where is the sport that I have loved?
Where did it go?
But the parity has never been what it is up until this point.
And I think that, for me, 24 does seem like a lot, and I get that.
We've done our bitching, we've done our complaining.
It's happening.
And so that's where my mindset has shifted.
Like, look, it's not going to be reverted.
And so for situations like this,
and when you see how a weekend like this unfolded,
you could argue like what made it so special the upset
so special was because of how it's layered
out but that isn't the case these games would
be you know if you go look at that we just looked at
the AP Top 25, nobody really got knocked out, right
Georgia, Indiana, Notre Dame, those teams lost
they're Alabama, they're all still
in the playoff right now if we were to end today
are still in this 12 team playoff
but what it does is for the teams that took them out
that found a big win now go okay there's a path I've got an opportunity
so that's why I like it
because the rich don't get richer
in this new 2014 playoff where they can kind of stack the
schedule they know which ones they can
and cannot lose, well now you start letting these other teams
get in it opens this thing up it opens it up a little bit more
and I think we saw that this
weekend yeah I mean like I said you know I looked
at the mat at first I wasn't a huge fan of it but
Like, when you looked at the matchups from
last year of what they would have been,
I'm like, all right, that's not bad.
Like, it's some good-looking football.
It's good pedigree.
And they're like, yeah, but it takes away from regular season.
But does it?
Because look how many teams already have
two losses that would be, oh, shoot,
we can't lose again.
We'd be on the bubble.
You know what I mean?
So, like, those – that 24,
that bubble is going to get hot if you get three Ls.
And the way college football is right now,
three Ls are very realistic for a lot of football teams
and very truthfulness.
and good football teams.
Yeah.
So I think this 24-team playoff is going to take off,
and I think everyone's going to love it once it gets going.
And like I said, I think it keeps the casual fan more interested
in college football because if you lose one game, your team's not done.
If you continue to watch, watch, and watch.
And we're going to watch anyways
because this is great football right now.
So, once again, I think it's going to end up being really, really good.
I think people are going to love it.
The psychos were never going to leave, right?
Let's be honest.
But speaking of good teams taking an L this week,
Georgia loses to Auburn after getting off to a hot start, 14-0 start.
You thought like, hey, you know, new week,
same Saturday for the Georgia Bulldogs.
But the Auburn Bulls, I call them, did not waver.
And Byron Brown found himself.
Again, the key here is 26 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown,
which when Florida came across him, that was my concern.
I'm seeing him beat him with his feet.
We even had Jake Crane on for that preview of that game,
and he talked about this, about Byron Brown.
It looked like a shift had happened from the USF to this year.
It looks like he wants to be a pocket passer,
but it's like, bro, you've made your bread and butter
off extending the pocket and using your legs, putting the wheels on.
And now you're choosing to stand in the pocket.
Fortunately, he chose to do that against Florida,
and we had success with it.
After a couple of weeks of getting punched in the mouth,
someone had a conversation like,
brother, you used your feet really good.
Don't shy away from it.
I know you want to pass the ball.
I want you to be a pocket passer.
Things have to be taken into consideration.
This Auburn O-line is not necessarily SEC ready.
The Georgia defensive linemen and edge rushers
are not the same as when you played in your league
from last year against Tulane and the Memphis's.
This is SEC caliber, NFL caliber edge rushers
You got to use your feet.
Don't be afraid to use it.
I don't want it to be your crutch.
But by golly, dude, if they're not putting a spy on you
and it's hard to take you down, use it.
And look, a lot of teams, as much as you want to be prepared
for a mobile quarterback, Georgia historically has had trouble
with mobile quarterbacks,
but a lot of teams have trouble with them, right?
Especially when you're the size of Byron Brown
and you're hard to take down.
It's tough.
And they utilized it.
They leaned on that, took control of the game,
and were able to squeak out a close one against Georgia.
Again, showing them that, hey,
showing the rest of the world they're mortal.
And we've seen it now.
Florida, 4-0.
They get shown by, you know, Mizzou.
The blueprint gets laid out to everybody.
They're mortal.
Then boom, boom, they get thumped.
Texas gets handled by Oklahoma.
That's the blueprint.
They get thumped, right?
Oklahoma's blueprint was Blitz Arch Manning.
They couldn't score offensively.
They found other ways to score.
But this isn't a tale as old as time, but because of the competition,
because of how close things are, you're able to take a blueprint,
slow that team down, and then
if you can find a way to win and be gritty,
that's huge.
You got me now?
Yeah, you're good.
Yeah.
Yeah, man, when you sit back, Byron Brown got back to who he was.
That was the difference.
Byron Brown, like you said,
he looked like they've been trying to use him
in a way that he isn't who he is.
He is a runner, and he throws out of the run.
Like, this is what he is.
He checks it down.
He makes a couple plays with his arm, then he runs the football.
And that's exactly who he became again in Georgia.
He said, I'm not being a pocket passer.
I am going to be who I am,
and that's what he is, and that's what he did.
And, hey, it took a little turnover,
but it takes a lot of turnovers to win.
You know, it takes turnovers to win football games in Stockton.
bumble the football, Auburn capitalizes
on it, they go down to kick a field goal
and Byron Brown
won this game with his feet
he did exactly what he did, he controlled the clock
they controlled the ball, they did
what Byron Brown should be doing every single week
I think Auburn grew up a little bit
I don't think they're quite ready
but they definitely grew up a little bit
and I think they're going to get a little more on track
than what they did at the start of the season
Wild week for fans, Florida fans
obviously dealing with the new coach
trying to figure out who they're going to be
They get a big W. Auburn trying to figure out who Goles is going to be.
They get a big W.
Will Stein and the boys continue to roll,
which they're excited as hell going on.
Alabama probably back in shambles.
Not quite sure what they're going to do with DeBoer.
Tennessee and Sark, that's going to be a major question.
Arch Manning, I mean, we feel like we get answers,
and then we get new questions every given week.
Let's talk about this game, Ty.
I want to get your opinion, man.
I was thinking about you during this game last night with FSU Miami.
How was the feeling?
Were you feeling yourself last night watching this game?
You've got to be honest with me.
I mean, this game, you know, here's the thing.
I don't know if Norvell saved his job last night.
I don't think he's going to be fired regardless.
I said that before this game.
But you go up against Miami, the number, you know,
top five team in the country on the road.
You play your heart out.
So it feels very Napier-esque-like.
And this is what I mean is that the players love them.
They play hard for them.
They show you spurts of good football.
I said at the beginning of the year, but they don't know how to win.
And that was what I even talked about in yesterday's show for Florida
versus Texas is I love the way that we won because you showed me
that you can win in a close one.
You show me you can win in blowouts.
That's easy.
But show me the gritty ones.
Then I'll be intrigued.
Then I'll be like, okay, you got something.
The FSU has lacked that.
They haven't been able to do that.
They've showed you good football in the
middle of quarters from time to time.
But I saw the writing on the wall.
I go, this is either going to be the one that Cristobal drops,
but I don't feel it because you're going up against a coach
who is just historically known for not getting it done,
not getting it home.
They go out, they get the ball, and they go into overtime.
They score.
I go, if there is a time, your time is now.
You've got to get the stop, Norvell.
What are you going to do?
And they give a big-ass run up the middle for a touchdown.
He took it all the way to the house.
It was the next drive that they gashed
him again, and I was like, it's over.
You're giving the better team the ability to pin their ears back
because now they get to stop you on defense
after you kind of just scored on a big play to get to Deuce Robinson,
and you're running out of Hail Marys, dude.
You're running out of Hail Marys, and sure enough,
although that whole call was crap, I agree, you ran out of juice.
But what is your thoughts for this FSU team
that has been very rollercoaster-esque-like
going for the rest of the year?
I mean, the team's not quite there.
They're missing some things.
Yeah, Ashton Daniels played a really good football game,
but he's not really the pocket-passing kind of type.
It feels like we're missing that a little bit.
We're missing that passing game.
But I'll tell you what.
They've gotten better.
They've gotten more gritty.
They've played very, very hard.
Like, they were a 20-point underdog in this football game.
And when you go and you look at them,
the defense has problems for sure.
But I tell you, the offense played a great game against Miami.
And they went in there, and, you know,
there was no expectations of winning this game,
and no one thought they had a chance.
And they played hard.
And, honestly, if Wisner don't fumble the football,
this might be a whole different concept
because Wisner fumbled that ball
and it was a huge spot, and they were driving.
And it might have been a different game.
But, you know, that's the part of learning how to win.
And the team's just not quite there yet.
But I'll tell you, you know, it was a great football game.
Florida State did everything they could.
You know, and I'm not one of those people that are like,
oh, the refs did this, the refs did that.
I would just like the guys to decide the game.
Like, I felt like that flag was really late.
Yeah.
I felt like it was an unnecessary call.
Like, it wasn't a blatant, like, tackle.
It's 4-21.
Like, just see what happens.
It just felt like very late.
It is what it is.
You know, it's college football.
Like, things happen.
But I would rather have seen that decided on the field
than have that flag report.
That's a Hail Mary.
I get it.
But it was still fun to watch, and it was good football, you know?
So, I don't know.
The team's going in the right direction.
I don't know if they're going in the right direction.
I don't know if they're going in the right direction.
But they're grittier.
They play a little tougher than they have been in the past.
The defense still has problems, I think.
I still think that our defense needs more athletes.
But, you know, it is what it is right now.
You get a 2014 playoff next year, I don't know.
Find a way to get in and then play football, you know.
So, is Norvell – you think Norvell is good then?
He's not going anywhere, you think, right?
Oh, yeah.
I've read that he's probably going to be there through 2027.
It's just – it's a money – I just think it's a money thing.
And they can say whatever they want.
They can say that it's – we're giving him this,
but I think it's a money thing, and that's fine.
It is what it is.
This team's going to continue.
They like him.
And, hey, it is what it is.
I don't have any other thing to say about it,
but I think Norvell is safe.
Yeah, he's not going anywhere anytime soon.
All right, change scenery.
But now we have the Holy War here.
Notre Dame, the Catholics versus the Mormons.
Big-time game here.
Obviously a top-ten matchup on the road at BYU.
Before the game even started, I looked at this game and go,
look, it's going to be exciting.
It's going to be fun.
but is it going to tell you what you need
to know about either of these teams?
I think the only one that really had a thing to answer would be BYU.
I think Notre Dame and T.J. Carr still looked the part, personally,
but I think BYU let the country know that they are legit.
This game, honestly, it's tough to play in Provo,
and I told everyone this, man.
It is so hard.
It feels like that game is in the middle of nowhere
when you're in that stadium.
It's like you just see mountains in the background.
It's just like a stadium put together.
It looks like a sandlot almost.
It's in the middle of nowhere.
And it's such a tough place to go play.
My brother, big Notre Dame guy, and I said,
man, I said, this place is tough.
I said, I don't know what it is, but it's hard to play there.
And Bear Bachmeier played one
of the best football games he has ever played.
And you sit here, man, and you look.
Bear Bachmeier had a touchdown passing, a touchdown receiving,
and two touchdowns rushing.
You're talking about a football game.
You had the hat trick, baby.
football game you're going to remember that is insanity what he did
and good for him he said he
was disrespected by Notre Dame in the past I don't know what it
was about but I guarantee you they
put a little respect to his name now I can tell you that uh
but it was a great football game and
I still don't know like if BYU answered questions
and I get it but like what are they somewhere else
besides Provo you know what I mean
so like man that's the question I have because it's so hard
to play in that stadium.
I just, I don't know what they are yet,
but they're tough and they're gritty
and they're going to be there.
I mean, they're going to make this playoff.
I just don't see where, in any world, they don't.
Yeah, I'm glad.
I feel like they kind of got the jip last year
with how it all unfolded.
They lose at Texas Tech in the Big 12 playoff
and I didn't like how that went down.
Obviously, they lose that final spot.
They get booted out because of that loss.
Miami takes it.
But I think now, because they had two losses, right,
going into it, they can lose the Big 12 championship.
let's just say if they do I don't believe I
don't know where they're going to be at but
you're 100% right it's
who are they outside of that and look you know in basketball being able
to play at home play at a place like
that to me Notre Dame played damn good football CJ Carr
showed me you know why I think CJ Carr
is the dude it's a weird one like it's you can talk
about college football have a loss
and be like yeah it was a loss but am I still out on Notre
Dame no I think they went to a hard hard place played a great team
and and lost a good football
right I mean and you could argue that last play
was kind of up in the air they drove down the
field with a minute 40 to go
and he did everything right except score uh right at the end there and
the energy in that place was absolutely electric again
a very tough place to play uh at BYU who
are they outside of Provo we we don't know yet
um Notre Dame I feel like you know people hate them
and I understand the hate they kind of get a freebie every now
and then which will be interesting
to watch but Notre Dame has another big test later
on the year against Miami who as as well
has looked mortal but here's the thing man I I feel like
the one big thing we learned from what was
one of the most historical weekends in college football
is as much as we football heads want
to be right as much as we want to be right
this weekend showed you that it is almost impossible
to know what the hell we are talking about uh week
in and week out we can try to beat this
spot on as possibly can but dude
when you're playing the football games you really don't know
what can happen and it is what makes college football
so great we've seen a lot of these
weekends where it looks like it's going
to be fantastic based on the numbers and based on the
matchups and there were some games
that we didn't talk about mizzou getting absolutely railroaded
by Ole Miss we were wrong
on that we took mizzou they get humble pie we got lsu rolling Mississippi
state which seemed like the only one to kind
of go we thought it would go that way with fluff being
out and Camario Taylor. That one didn't surprise
a lot of people. You've lost your entire team
due to injury, so nobody was
shocked there, but all in all, it
was an incredible weekend.
We've got more of these set to come
lined up and ready to go. Another
great show here on this beautiful
morning with my guy.
I would also like to add one thing. Go ahead.
Cody said that
Austin would lose by 21.
They would win by 21.
Ohio State and Missouri combined for
22 total points together.
