Henry from Mowers and Reapers demonstrates how to repair a leaking lawn tractor tire using an inner tube and attempts to replace a deck belt on a John Deere D110. He emphasizes the importance of correct part numbers and the necessity of regular maintenance for lawn tractor owners.
Hey guys, how you doing? It's Henry at Mowers and Reapers. Welcome to another episode.
It's almost the end of September and we're running into the fall weather. It's about 65 degrees,
getting kind of cold out there. And the leaves have started to fall from the trees, which means
that lawn tractors with bagger systems are going to be very popular this time of year. As a result,
I have a guy who offered me $1,200 for this thing. As you know, I recently picked this up,
had a transmission problem, but I think we just got rid of the air out of there,
the hydro pumps that allowed it to engage again. I really don't know how it got fixed, but
either way, this thing runs and drives great. However, the right front tire always goes flat.
Yes, even after fix a flat and ATF still doesn't hold air for more than a day.
So I'm going to put a tube in it. Not really looking forward to it because
tubes are hard to put in, but I'll take my time with it. It's listed for $1,375,
but I'll let it go with the bagger system for $1,200. Maybe we'll sell it. You know how things
go when somebody says they offer you something. Until they're actually loading this on their
trailer, do you actually think it's going to sell? But nevertheless, I do have to fix the tire
anyway, whether I sell it or not. So it's going to take a long time. I'm just going to jack it up,
take the wheel off, bring it to the garage, take the tire off, shove a tube in it, put it back on.
I'm going to be jumping around a lot today because I've got to get ---- done.
As you saw, I got the tire off the bead and then pried out the outer layer. The
bottom part is still on the bead, but this is enough room to stuff in an inner tube.
So this is a 15x6x6. 15 is the diameter of the wheel. Stock on this tire says 15x6x6,
so this is the exact replacement inner tube that you need for this front tire off a lawn tractor.
Six is the width. It's six inches wide. And the last number, dash six, is the rim size diameter.
This is a six-inch rim, typical for lawn tractor front wheels. Just to be clear,
this is the rim, the metal part. The tire is on the outside. Combined tire on the rim
is called a wheel. So many people message me on Facebook Marketplace and ask me if I have tires.
I'm like, do you need the tire or the tire on the rim? He's like, the tire on the rim. So I'm like,
oh, so you need a wheel? He's like, yes. And then there's some people who say, hey,
do you have any six-inch rims? I'm like, are you talking about the wheel or you just want the rim
without the tire? He's like, no, I want the tire too. I go, oh, so you want a wheel?
Anyway, I'm going to stuff this in. I'm going to make sure that the valve is on the correct side.
The middle part is right here. You can see that the valve is on this side. So you want to make
sure that this is up like this. So when it's inflated, the nozzle sticks out this way and
doesn't want to suck in that way because it's meant to go this way. Ask me how I know that.
This was sent to me by a subscriber. I believe it was Ron Roll. Thank you. The reason why I
haven't used these in years is because I couldn't find mine. Then after Ron Roll sent it to me,
I'm like, okay, I'm going to put it here so I'll know exactly where they are. Anyway,
this is for installing valves onto rims, but I'll use this to pull so I can cut it.
You want to take the old valve out since we're putting a tube in it.
I don't want that thing to fall in, so I'm going to have to hold it with my hand on the other side.
And it's gooey because I have Fix-A-Flat and ATF in it. Gee, who put that in there?
Cut with my hand. That valve is on this side. Out, out, out. There we go. So the valve is
removed. Now we can stuff in that inner tube, put the outer layer of the tire back on the
bead again, and this tire will be good for a long time. The reason why I decided to... Yes,
there's dry rot and cracks and stuff, right? But it has decent tread on it, so why not put a tube
in there? It'll be fine. So it's harder to do if the wheel is smaller. Like a rear wheel tire
is easier to put on than a smaller one. So you've got to kind of like push it in with your feet.
Anyway, I have this thing to hold the valve to make sure it doesn't suck in.
No guarantees it still won't. I'm going to slowly pop this up. Hope it doesn't suck in.
As you heard, there was still some air in there because when you put the
inner tube in there and then the bead starts to go around the rim, it becomes airtight.
All the air that was in there is now being pushed out by the inner tube being inflated.
As you can see, we've got pizza flat and ATF leaking out, which is fine. And check this out,
man. This tire is as good as new now. And you know, it wasn't exactly easy, but it's necessary.
If you guys need inner tubes for your lawn tractor tires, you've got tires that cannot
be salvaged, got cracks, dry rot, and all that, and just won't hold air. Instead of spending like
$50 on a new tire, and that's what they cost, you can get like an inner tube for like $12 to $15.
This is a 15 by 6-6, same one for a front tire. You can get also 18 or 20-inch
rear lawn tractor tires on an eight-inch rim. This is a 20 by 8-8. So this would be for a
20-inch rear lawn tractor tire or wheel. This is for a typical front, six inches.
You can get all of these and all other kinds of tires at LawnTractorTireStore.com. Go check
them out. I'll leave a link in the description. Let's go put this on now. Got a couple of shims,
put the E-clip on. I'm going to have to clean this up because I don't want boba to be around here.
Automatic transmission fluid. Not exactly chocolate syrup for dogs.
And there you go. That's how you pretty permanently repair your leaky flat tire of
your lawn tractor. Put an inner tube in it. It's only about $10, $15, depending on the
rear or the fronts. Once again, go check out LawnMowerTireStore.com. Now on to the next thing.
After the storm, that tree is huge. Almost. Boom. Man, that work is dangerous. That tree is massive.
Boba. Boba. Come on. Let's go. Hello. Come on. Let's go. This is my John Deere D110
lawn tractor. I got it for free. Free. Free. Free. That's right. Free. When do I not get it for free?
This has a blown motor. I rebuilt it. Put it back in.
Runs great. However, while testing it, the deck belt slipped off and was grinding a bit.
So the deck belt is damaged. My friends over at UDC Parts sent me a new replacement Kevlar belt
for this John Deere D110. The size is half inch by 88.9. I'm pretty sure you'll be okay if you
get a half inch by 89. Anyway, it runs just fine and mows just fine, but the belt's kind of loose
because a lot of material has been rubbed away. So I figured we try this new Kevlar belt. Again,
from my friends over at UDC Parts. I'll leave a link in the description.
Changing a deck belt usually is pretty easy. I hope it's easy. I'm going to jack up the front,
lower the deck so I have room to move my arms, and just crawl around and remove the old one,
put the new one on. Let's open this up. Kevlar is different than rubber. It's supposed to be
strong. Take a minute for maintenance, and that's what we're doing. We're taking a minute
for maintenance. Inspect pulleys for rust. Clean with included steel brush. Check for smooth
rotation and silence. Install your new belt ready to mow. It's a gift from UDC Parts. Thank you.
It's like a steel wool thing. That's it. As you can see, it's not black. It's kind of like gray.
It's made out of Kevlar, not rubber. I'm sure there's some rubber in it, but it's mostly Kevlar.
Very strong. Like I said, it's a half inch, which is the width of the belt that goes around the
pulley. The length is 88.9. How about that for an angle? All right. Removing the belt was a pain
in the ass. They have keepers over one tensioner pulley and one idler pulley.
It's designed so that you'd have to take the pulley off to get the belt off. Otherwise,
you're not going to be able to get that belt off, unless you take a long screwdriver and
shove it in the keeper and bend it outwards to get the belt out. Anyway, after removing the belt,
really doesn't need changing at all. It's fine. It's in really good condition still.
Even after some rubbage, it's fine. I guess I'm going to put the original one back on.
Do you know why? Because taking the new belt and comparing it to the old belt,
it's not even close. This is 88.9 inches. This is obviously way longer,
so I can't even use this belt. It's a wrong one. I must have given them the wrong number.
Sorry. Well, I'm just going to put this belt back on again. I had to remove the pulley cover
on one end because the way it's designed is it has these bulges in there. You can't get the
belt out from the pulley. These are acting as the keepers. I had to remove it to get it out.
It was really hard. I think it's going to be really hard to put it back in there because I
just pulled it out of that one without taking the cover off. It's going to be really tough
to put it back on. I'm going to have to figure out why I gave them the wrong number.
All right. Look at the cover. It's a D110, right? In the hood, you've got the
parts right there. Service parts. D110. Deck belts. Circle is there, right? D110. Circle.
GX20072. I asked for GX2006. Dimensions, half inch by 88.9.
Looking up the part number, GX20072 comes out to be half inch by 103.7 or 103.8 around there.
That's what I need. A GX20072, half inch by 103.8. That's the belt I need.
In the meantime, I'll put this back.
So I put the original belt back on again. What a waste of time. What's the moral of the story?
Well, make sure you get the right part number and you won't have problems like me. We'll use
some more UDC parts in upcoming videos. What else did we find out? That's right. It's a pain in the
ass to remove and replace the deck belt for this John Deere D110. The trick to it, you got to
remove the two pulleys, the tensioner and the idler and both pulley covers. If you remove those,
it'll be easy. Other than that, it sucks. At least we know now. Lawn tractor maintenance
can be pretty tricky and tough on the body too. There was an old man that lived on the corner
over there and he asked me about a lawn tractor because he sees me working on them in my driveway
all the time. He just got prostate cancer, so it's hard for him to walk. So he wanted a rider.
And honestly, given the amount of maintenance a lawn tractor requires, if he could barely walk,
a lawn tractor for a small yard is probably not the best idea. So being the good guy that I was,
I talked him out of getting a lawn tractor and that he should just mow his lawn the way he used
to when he's feeling better. Because a lawn tractor, the kind with the fuel pump kind?
Man, I mean, how's he gonna winterize it? How's he gonna change the belts like me?
How's he gonna fix a tire? How's he gonna put an inner tube in a tire? Will he check the oil?
Is he gonna prime it when summer rolls around after he winterized it? Is he gonna do all those
things? No! So lawn tractor is not for everybody. You gotta kind of know what you're doing to own
one of these things because it requires regular maintenance. Anyway, we'll see what happens with
that tractor in the back, whether we sell another one or not. If we don't sell another tractor for
remainder of the season, I'm okay with it because we sold 11. Far beyond my expectations. So I'm
very happy with that as it is. But if we get rid of that red one for $1,200,
just icing on the cake. Hope you guys enjoyed the video. Remember to like, share, and subscribe
so I can continue to bring you general maintenance content on lawn tractors.
Putting an inner tube in a badly damaged dry rotted tire but still had good tread, you could
save it. And attempting to replace the deck belt on this John Deere D110. Would have been great
if I ordered the right part. Hope you guys have a great day. We'll see you guys next time on
Mowers and Blowers. See you guys next time on Mowers and Blowers.
