First Time Trying PEMPEK in PALEMBANG, INDONESIA [Episode 12]

In this video, we're visiting Palembang, Indonesia and trying one of the country's most legendary dishes, pempek. And it's seriously so good. Oh my goodness. This savory fish cake is made from fish meat, tapioca, and is also served with a sweet and spicy sauce called cuka. Whoa, this one's a little bit spicy. There are countless varieties of pempek, from kapal selam to lenjer, and we'll be trying many of them. So join us as we visit some of the most famous pempek spots in Indonesia's oldest city, and we'll tell you which one we think is the best. First stop, pempek candy Jalan Surirman in the heart of Palembang. What do we get? I don't know. Get out of the kitchen. Oh. Now we know. You don't want it? You want the sauce or not? Yeah, I don't know how much I'll be drinking this one, but it's really good. This, I'm sure, is the tempeh crispy. I'm willing to say this is the lingerie. Yeah. This bigger one. And then these are the tofu. Oh, OK. So the lingerie is the one I think that I like the most. Oh, no. The tofu was sold out. What did we get? Oh, this is pistachio. This is the crispy. And this is the pistachio. So let's try pistachio. I don't know what's inside. This looks like some bee hoon or maybe some vegetables. Dip it in the chuko. Eat it. Gotta drink the chuko. It's good. This one's not as spicy. You can't even see chili seeds in here or anything. It's a bit saturated, though. It's definitely got some kick. Yeah. This one's good. I don't think it's fried again. This is going to be the best one. This is the best one. A little spicy on this. So good. Hands down. Hands down the best. Lingerie is the best pempek. We've had this type of pempek before, and it's seriously so good. Oh, my goodness. Every single aspect of it. The outside crunchy batter, the inside filling. It's still warm enough in the deep fryer. So soft on the inside. Oh, my goodness. It's like a pillow of goodness. This is the best one? Yeah. You can try any one. This one? Yeah. You drink like this, but it doesn't have to be like this. This is to put the food like this, right? You're supposed to drink like this. Okay. That's what we were told by the tourism. This is so good. This is pistachio? I don't know. There's something inside. I can't tell you what. This is like a shrimp, right? That looks like a shrimp. Oh, gratis. I was like, who in the world ordered that? That is not our kind of dessert. Where it's like a base of milk or coconut milk, and then there's like soy. A million different things. Yeah, a million different things inside. Indonesian desserts are just a mixture of whatever I think I have left over. I just throw it into a bowl. Yeah, campur. Yeah, dessert. I always say this about Indonesian food, but it's so salty and savory and spicy that I always crave something sweet after. Even just a small piece of chocolate or like this, the milk is nice. Yeah. That's what you said? Yeah. Just to confirm. Sometimes you never know. I think it slipped. It's sweeter than the last place. This one's sweeter. Sweeter than viko. I really like when they mix the cucumber with this. Hey, it's so good. Wow. This is so nice. Yeah. I asked several people what their favorite pempek was. Like locals here in Palembang. And a lot of them said kepal selam. Abis. A lot of them said kepal selam. I think it's big, giant, hearty one with the egg inside. A full egg. Yeah, I see why. This is legit. Kepal selam. Kepal seperti praw besar, Rito? Yeah. There's a big old boat here. I'm just gonna go like this. That's a whole lot. I don't know, man. The egg is seriously some of my favorite. Palenjer or the egg is so good. I really love this one. I mean, yeah, sure. Something like baso telor is also good. I don't know, man. The egg underneath all this batter is just fire. The yolk has a nice density to it. Yeah. It kind of balances out the fishy taste. Everything is so good. First, you got the layer of the batter, then you get the layer of the outside of the egg, and then you get the yolk. It's legit. The sauce is not that spicy here. For sure. It's sweeter. Yeah, it's sweeter. Palenjer, palenjer. Would you do this also? Really? Always. Yeah, always. Always. This is too good to be true. I love you, baby. And it's all right. I love it. Kepal is better, for sure. That's salsa. It's so good. Just two things that I tried, and I like more here than in the other two places. Oh, yeah. We made them at the end. Palenjer. Pempeklala.
