In school, you learn the importance of listening, which at times is easier said than done.
For four-year-old Jace Morris, it's sometimes a challenge as he was diagnosed with ADHD.
He typically has a little difficulties in the morning.
But on the morning of January 10th, Jace's mom, Alexis, saw the value in listening after
sending her son to his new school, Cambridge Academy's DeSoto campus.
We were receiving calls that morning saying that our son didn't have his listening ears
on.
By noon.
I'm getting a call from my husband saying, you have to go pick up Jace, he's hitting
and kicking the teacher.
When she picked up Jace.
I told the owner, my son said a teacher hit him.
I want to see footage.
And she records it, now sharing that video with us.
Alexis says it was nap time and Jace didn't want to sleep.
You can see the teacher grab him by the arm.
Shortly after, she picks him up under her arm and carries him to the office.
There, the struggle continues.
As Jace's arm is pulled behind his back, he's dragged using his blanket.
And as he hits back, he's knocked down.
Jace is very traumatized.
When you hear your baby say, you took too long to come and get me, it's just like, what
if something worse happened?
In a statement, Cambridge Academy says they immediately terminated the teacher and have
been cooperating with authorities.
They say this is an isolated occurrence and there is no indication whatsoever that any
previous incident like this occurred.
His teacher was never even aware that he had ADHD.
Other people should be held accountable.
Texas Department of Family and Protective Services say the incident is now in the hands
of Texas Health and Human Services Commission, who says their investigation is ongoing.
Alexis has pulled her son out of daycare.
We have been told by a few parties that because he did not sustain any physical bodily injuries,
it is not considered abuse.
Abuse or not.
Alexis is glad she listened.
Had I not listened to my child that day, we wouldn't have not been here or I would have
never known that he was actually treated, mistreated that way.
In DeSoto, I'm Brittany Moncrease.
