DD Travel Hammock Bivi - First Look A Hot Cross Bun On The Bushbox Wild Camping UK
Hi guys, I'm really excited today because I've got my first ever hammock
and not only is it a hammock, it's a DD travel hammock bivvy, so loads of new possibilities.
Let's have a look.
Cheating today, bought my own wood. Let's get going with this hammock.
So I think these two trees are about right. Does that look about right? Who knows.
In this, I believe it's everything you need to start with. I bought some paracord,
that's going to be for if I made a ridge line above, which you would for your top.
I haven't got my top today but yeah. So these are the spreader poles, they're for the
bug net and here's the hammock. So all I've done is I've already attached my bungees
and I've put on a couple of little carabiners on the end of those. So I've attached the
bungees to the bug nets. So apparently I'm supposed to have something called a
whoopee suspension kit, which makes this better and easier somehow, but I'm not there yet.
Thank you Kelly for all your advice. So when I get around to that, I'll come back to that,
but I believe you can just set it up as it is. So let's give it a go.
Oh my god, the tree's too thick.
Tighten a bow and make it higher on this end.
You just try this and check it's not going to fall out of the tree.
I think it's too low.
Okay, it's holding. I need it higher though.
My water's ready so I'm just going to stop and have my breakfast and then we'll get right back
to this. Hot crust bun. I'm going to try and toast it. What bird is that? Back to it.
I'm going to make them a bit higher. Okay, that's cool I think. Spreader poles. I need to hold out
the bug net. Where are the bungees to? Ridgeline. Okay, stop at ridgeline. I've got 25 foot of
paracord here. Hopefully that'll be enough. I have not tried that ridgeline properly.
Okay, that's a really rubbish ridgeline. Like, totally rubbish, but I'm going to learn how to do
it properly. Look at that. I'm getting in. Oh my god, it's so cool. Oh my gosh, I'm in it. Right,
let me zip it up. Okay, how cool is this? It's so comfy. I could lay here all day.
So the bug net obviously makes it completely sealed so you're not going to get any bugs in
here, which is grand. It's so comfortable. I think there's pockets as well. There's two
pockets down that end. So there's two pockets on this end. Handy, handy. There's a little
tab thing there you could hang your torch from. And there's two pockets at the top end as well.
So you've got four pockets in here. This is cool, man. Zips on both sides.
So you can have zips on this side and that side. Oh, I love it. So relaxing. So you would have
a decent ridgeline that can hold up a tarp. So you'd have your tarp over the top.
I haven't got my tarp today. And I think I'm supposed to put my thermarest. There's like a,
I'll show you, there's a gap underneath that you put your sleeping mat in. I don't know if mine's
going to fit because I've got a thermarest max. It's pretty big. We'll try it. And you can get
like an underquilt that goes under the hammock to keep you warm. I haven't got one of those yet
either. This is lush, man. Okay, guys, I got my exterm. And on this side of the hammock,
there's like a section you can put your mat in. So let's see if it fits. Yes, it does. Wow,
amazing. And this just like fixes the velcro to stop your mat popping out. How cool is that?
And you can fix an underquilt underneath as well. Oh yeah, these little tabs here
and on the side, that's a bit for your underquilt too.
It's just so comfy. I absolutely love it. Right, let's see how this is as a bivvy.
If you didn't want the bug net in the way, for whatever reason, you could, um, I don't know,
but you could probably just tie it up, couldn't you? Like put it out of the way on the ridge line.
And I'm guessing if you didn't want to use it with the bug net and the ridge line and everything,
if you're just doing like a day camp, could you put it upside down, like hang it upside down and
just have the hammock? I don't know. Let me know if I'm talking rubbish. Put it that way up and
just have like a simple hammock. Right, let's get this down now and try it as a bivvy. Amazing.
Wow. I love that. How cool is it? Um, yes, I can't wait to try that out properly.
Not sure when it will be because I've got, um, I've got a couple of nights out mid-April.
One of them's just a tarp one. The other one's a bit crazy. Um, and then I've got my three day trip,
uh, which I won't be taking a hammock for. And then probably after that I will give the
hammock camping a go. So yeah, if you have any hammock tips and tricks, stick them in the
comments. Um, I'd say I'm completely clueless, complete beginner with this. So I'd love to know,
um, what I'm supposed to be doing and, uh, yeah, I will see you guys soon.
Thanks so much for watching. Bye.
