Cavs Move Incoming? - Report Reveals WILD Update | Cleveland Cavaliers News
Aug 4, 2026
There could be a Cleveland Cavaliers move incoming and if they set their eye on this power forward
then it could completely shift the Cleveland Cavaliers bench. The Dallas Mavericks are
open to trading P.J. Washington and they have been basically all off season as they're looking
to kind of make a new look alongside Cooper Flag. I think P.J. Washington is going to want out and
they always have been shopping P.J. all off season and I think one reporter in particular
believes that the Cleveland Cavaliers are the best team to acquire Mr. Washington.
Hello everyone. Welcome to the Cavs Digest YouTube channel. Thank you all so much for joining me.
Make sure you all subscribe to this channel as a lot of you guys that watch are not subbed
and it has been the support we say has been crazy. We're getting like 2,000 plus views every video.
I'm literally like hitting goals that I didn't think I would ever hit on this channel.
So I appreciate you all so much but I don't want to keep you waiting any longer.
Let's talk about what someone in particular had to say about Mr. Washington.
So per Jake Weinbach, the Cleveland Cavaliers could be a team worth monitoring for P.J.
Washington with the Mavericks forward reportedly available on the trade market.
Cleveland's interest level may depend on how the rest of free agency plays out,
but Washington's two-way skill set would be a desirable fit.
Yes, that's right. Cleveland would be the team to monitor.
Now I actually mentioned P.J. Washington in a video right when the offseason started.
It was a video about the Cleveland Cavaliers best targets in free agency.
One was Jalen Brown. Very little I mentioned Jalen Brown, but two guys on the Mavericks,
Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington were the guys that I mentioned.
I primarily know these two players for P.J. Washington for how they played against the
City Thunder in the year that the Mavericks made the NBA finals and lost to the Celtics
when they had Luka Doncic, of course. I fully remember P.J. Washington just being a splash
zone, was able to just pop out and hit that three-pointer and he was spotting up in the corner
and his three-level defense was very, very strong for Dallas.
So I believe that this is just a desperation piece for Cleveland. Like this would be a piece
not as like, oh, we're getting him because we're desperate as like,
I would, I'm desperate to have a guy like P.J. Washington. Like I want him so bad on my team
because of just, he is the perfect fit overall with his size and his skill set.
So let's kind of look at his stats a little bit. Let's kind of look at his career.
As I said, he is on Dallas currently, but Dallas is trying to make a new shift in their team with
them now having Cooper Flagg to build around. That's kind of like their primary piece to
flag. So P.J. Washington, you can see it here. The big things to notice, he's a 14-point scorer
who can get seven to eight boards. He can play 31 minutes a game. He can get a block and a steal.
This is one of the best role players in all of the NBA by far. And if he is going to be your
backup power forward, you can now have Mario Hazonia as your backup three, Washington on your
four. Assuming that if all plays out in my head, I can't assume that this is all going to play out,
but I assume Max Cruz is going to be a part of a trade in some world. I think P.J. Washington is
the epitome of a perfect backup power forward. I literally think that, I think he's better than
guys like Ruby Hachimura who went to the Clippers and used to be on the Lakers and the Wizards.
I think he is like that perfect piece. Now, as much as I would love him to start at the four,
you would have to probably get rid of Jared Allen and move over to the five.
So in my head, I play it out as if this is a trade detail that you would have to make. I think that
if the Mavericks want a guy like Schroeder, you could trade Schroeder in a second or something,
or maybe you would have to get rid of a guy like Proctor or Merrill, but you would have to do
something. They're going to lose Clay Thompson. I actually think Merrill would be the trade piece
but the problem is I don't think P.J. Washington is going to be the primary priority for the
Cavaliers. I think that they're going to focus on Peyton Watson and I'm going to probably talk
about it in a different video soon, but I think that Peyton Watson reportedly is going to be the
primary focus for the Cleveland Cavaliers, which in my opinion is phenomenal. I think Peyton Watson
is the best player that the Cavs have their eye on right now. I like DeRozan. I like P.J.,
although I don't know if they're linked with P.J. at all. They're just a team that fits for P.J.,
but anyways, I love DeRozan, Bruce Brown, Peyton Watson, Kuminga. I like all those guys. I truly
believe in my heart that Peyton Watson is without a doubt the best player that the Cleveland Cavaliers
have their eye on and if they were to make that trade, I think that it would really, really
change their offensive scheme, would change their whole team, would change their personality
because they do have a three that can play phenomenal defense is also tall and all that
good stuff. So, but we're not talking about him today. We're talking about P.J. Washington,
of course, although I'm not as serious on this guy as a reporter. This is something to note
because I don't think that I think that he is literally just reporting what someone else
reported. I don't think that he's wrong about this, but Evan Cidery mentioned the Mavericks
are shopping P.J. Washington trade talks after Dallas signed Najee Marshall to a long-term
extension plus prioritizing development for Morris Johnson Jr. Washington's role will change.
He's under contract through 2030, averaging 22.2 million annually. So off my head, based on
finances, a first round pick and Dennis Schroeder will get you close to the financial salary that
you can get for P.J. Washington. Also, one thing to note that it's very, very appreciated as from
us personally is that James Harden is currently holding out. They have a deal in place. Allegedly,
they have a deal in place, the Cavs and James Harden, but he is actually waiting for the Cavs
to be able to avoid the salary cap. So they can kind of just chill in to avoid the apron. James
Harden doesn't have to sign yet. Then they can make a move for a guy like P.J. Washington, a guy
like Peyton Watson. So this is what I think is 100% going to happen. I think what's going to happen
is that truly, I think this is going to be the exact order. I think Peyton Watson is going to
be option number one. So Peyton Watson is going to be the number one priority.
Then I think Kuminga is going to be like your second look. I think if you do not get Peyton
Watson, you are going to get Kuminga. I think if you get none of those three, I think they're going
to look at a guy like P.J. Washington. I think that that's literally the borderline how it's
going to go. I think DeRozan is in the mix a little bit, but I am almost certain, like almost
certain I would bet my house that he is signing with Miami or no, I don't want to bet my house,
but I don't bet anyways, but I would feel pretty confident about DeRozan signing with Washington
or Miami just because those teams are putting more pressure into getting DeRozan while the
Cavs don't seem like, they seem like they're interested in him, but they aren't really
trying to get him. But I think that DeRozan and P.J. Washington are like last options because
you're going to have to give up the most for P.J. So I don't think they want to do that.
I think Kuminga is a guy that probably wants a lot, so they might avoid him. I think that
the asking price for Peyton Watson is in a reasonable range that they can get him.
And then I think that P.J. is just like also around that like Schroeder in a second or Schroeder in
first is a terrible asking price, but the Cavaliers lack draft pedigree. Like they don't
really have draft picks to give up. They don't really have available draft at all. They just
don't. So the problem with the Cavs right now is that if you are going to commit to a win now team,
you have to trade your picks, especially because I think that with Kobe Allman in his position,
you're never going to win by the draft. But hypothetically, I should have wrote this down
and gave it to you all, but I want to kind of break down what in my head a Cavs roster would
look like if I can make it right now. Of course, I'm not a GM, but if I could do anything, it would
be probably point guard, Harden, Mitchell, although I don't, I wouldn't like Harden that much.
On a perfect roster, Harden would be my starting point guard, but hypothetically the Cavs roster
next year, if you can make a couple moves, it'd be Harden, Mitchell, Peyton Watson,
Mobley, Jared Allen. The backups would be Malik Thomas or Proctor slash Malik Thomas at the one,
the other one at the two, Loki, just go Proctor at the one, Malik Thomas at the two,
Tyson at the three, Hazonia at the four, and Thomas Bryant at the five. That's a realistic
lineup. But including PJ Washington, I would genuinely have him at the backup four and then
have Hazonia at the backup three, Tyson at the backup two, and then Proctor at the backup one,
Malik Thomas can mix in a little bit too. I do not want Shrew on this team anymore.
And Shrews, I like, but I don't think he's worth the contract. I think Peyton Watson is better
for the Cavs and what they need. So, but let me know in the comments below what you guys think
about PJ Washington. Should the Cavs try to make the move on him? Are they going to? That's totally
up to you guys. I don't think they are going to do it. I don't think it's going to be really that
possible because there's a lot of speculation around the Cavs this offseason. Let me know in
the comments below what you think. Thank you all so much for the support. Comment on this video,
like this video, share this with your friends. I am Matt Palangi, and thank you all so much for
joining me on Cavs Digest.
