team looking to get ice time for even younger players.

more in this episode but before we get into it i want

make sure to go down and hit it means the absolute world
and we're just 200 away from hitting the
goal a huge shout out to absolutely everyone watching
and let's just dive straight into it
today where we get the shocking report coming
from Elliot Freeman that fan favorite Otto Rottuhas
been placed on waivers by the Vancouver Canucks now looking
at Elliot Freeman and a lot of what
waiver wire moves continue to be made
as its early season teams are kind of playing with
what they can do but with the Canucks coming out
and doing this a bit of a shocking situation as
we've seen last year even to the point where Adam Foot
was not playing Otto Rottu someone that's
familiar with Manny Mahltrah losing that ice time
and seeing a guy like this being placed on waivers
it's just sad to see and of course the production
is something that Otto Rottu was never really given
the opportunity to really get going he scored
a goal during the season one point incredible on
the face off I mean one of the best
in the NHL every single year Otto Rottu continuously got put
in the doghouse season after season
if that was from Adam Foot now to Manny Mahltrah and now
the Canucks made the decision to place what
was headlined piece of Bo Horvat being traded to the
New York Islanders on waivers as they cannot find
a spot within this NHL lineup to continue to let
him grow now looking at of course Otto Röttu over
the stretch of games with the Canucks before being
placed on waivers there were scratches in between games
and of course looking at the minutes nine
and a half minutes nine minutes and 56 seconds eight
and a half minutes with the final game
going up where we've seen on October 11th playing 12
and a half minutes for the Canucks looking at
the production again the minutes weren't there
but a young guy that again had a lot of potential
now being placed on waivers in the past four out
of three out of the four games not hitting the
average time of 10 minutes
and 10 seconds on ice now looking at of course Otto Röttu there's so
much to value and how much he brings in but looking
at the face-off is of course what he's
known for and there was a stat just last week out
of all NHL players i believe since 2023
Otto Röttu was in the top 4% when it came to face-off wins,
and this season, continuing the trend at 56.8%.
Offensive zone, 54%.
Neutral zone, 58%.
Defensive zone, 57%.
And the third period in overtime at 56%,
a way above league average face-off guy,
and someone that gives them a specialty that a lot of teams look for,
looking at your fourth line center.
You have a young one that's continuing to grow.
this is one move that of course is not going to make
or break the Canucks it's not going to be
the deciding factor if the Canucks are a playoff team in the next year
or two but losing a guy
like this someone that has legitimate value it's uncertain
if the Canucks have been trying to trade
this guy or working with others but now with him going down
and being placed on waivers there's two
options now we see other teams can submit the claim
and of course take Ochiratu off waivers
which would result in the Canucks losing him for nothing
but if he does end up clearing waivers
and sent to the AHL is there a trade in the works
are we going to see maybe something where this
swap with someone like Connor Zari over in the Flames organization
which a similar situation
is happening this is a player that's not going
to probably take well to being demoted and not
getting ice time a young guy again looking
at what he's done this season is not the most
impressive again but when looking at the age someone
that wants to continue to grow fans I
personally want to know your thoughts down
in the comments on Ochiratu being placed on waivers
again an elite face-off guy and of course the shots
and his assists per game are low but
fourth line minutes will end up resulting
in this but the biggest thing is now of course
when looking at Ochiratu there's a lot of reasons why
the Canucks probably leaned into this
direction and that's of course looking at clearing
and going down he will be able to work with the
AHL maybe this is to get his confidence back
but this was a big result in guys taking over and
having good seasons I mean looking at Max Sasson someone
that stepped into this Canucks organization
last season as almost a full-time NHLer
and having an incredible run 66 games played 19 points
and solidifying himself
but the biggest thing with Max not so much a centerman I mean looking
at this season alone 41 percent from the dot
the Canucks now have the opportunity to once again
let this guy clear waivers
because he's lost a spot within the lineup two guys like Max Hassan
and other guys stepping through
but the biggest thing is now is with the Canucks I feel like
giving up on a young guy a fan favorite nonetheless that showed out
when it came to Olympics or any
kind of international ice
when he ended up playing this is a guy that genuinely was within this
organization and had a valued role within it
from the neutral zone face-off defensive face-off
overtime face-offs it's a guy that added
that extra level of having that face-off guy within
this group when looking of course Petey incredible player
not the strongest when it comes to the dot
Marco Rossi great, Sason great as well
and Drew O'Connor a winger filling in the center
it's one of those moves if it's not just
with a lateral move if you're looking to do something
else sure but at the end
of the day fans again I never thought I'd lose my mind over a guy that
gets 10 minutes of ice time
but someone that's been growing with this organization of course
if you look back Bo Horvat trades for the second
and Bo Horvat doesn't look the prettiest but at
the end of the day you had a young centerman
that was truly growing if you wanted to trade this guy
or trade a veteran to get him in it's one
of these decisions that again is not going to break this
team and is not going to make you look at it
and say hey this organization's screwed they're doing
the wrong things because Akkuratov's on waivers
but again it's one of the things is there something
internally is there something that every single coach
in the nhl that's had Akkuratov is seeing
differently than what we've seen in the nhl
and other aspects of his game shooting percentage at
12 and a half percent attempts 2.5 a game expect a goal sitting at 0.6
which is 0.4 higher than
we've seen in previous seasons
and looking at his shots coming from the inner slot the slot outside
and the point Akkuratov had legitimately some value
and fans again i want to know what is the
thought process behind this is it
because the canucks are starting to lose quite a few games
we've seen them start the year winning against
Edmonton, they've bounced around and since then
plummeting quite a bit though Calgary's been pretty bad
and same with the LA Kings so at least
you're not dead last yet because we want
that first overall pick but fans I want to know your
thoughts about everything, Dan Blow on Otto Rota, what
is your thoughts on this waiver does he end
up getting claimed is this just a move to open up
a new opportunity to trade for a guy to add a new
contract to this team is this something that was inevitable
with the no ice time that he was getting
over the past couple of seasons I want to know all
your thoughts down in the comments am I over
reacting for Otto Rota I don't think I am because again
an incredible player and truly I hope the
and I do truly think this is an NHL player
that the Canucks will ultimately look back at and say
hey we lost a 60% face-off guy
for absolutely nothing let me know your thoughts down in the
comments I've been your host Mark take care Canucks fans go Canucks go
and I'll see you in the next one
