AI GeneratedThe Pittsburgh Steelers have signed veteran cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad to address a secondary depleted by injuries. This move provides critical experienced depth to a cornerback room currently struggling with availability and rookie development.
Here's some more breaking news.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have just made another signing.
This time, a steal of a move, and Walder's secondary has absolutely been pummeled with
injuries.
They have just signed a veteran cornerback that not only is a very, very sneaky good
move, but has big implications on this team going forward as soon as Sunday.
We're going to break down the move, discuss who it is, as well as a ton of other updates.
The Steelers now have made two signings, folks, two signings today.
A lot to go over in this episode, including some interesting notes surrounding some new
advanced analytics that have dropped into the Steelers' defense.
Before we get into it all, a very quick reminder to hit that subscribe button if you guys are
in peace with the support.
Folks, I had a video earlier today on them signing a linebacker, and I said they're going
to need to make more moves surrounding their secondary, especially when you're looking
at their cornerback position and stuff like that.
And guess what they do?
They go out and they sign Sean Murphy Bunting.
You can see here the Steelers are signing veteran cornerback Sean Murphy Bunting off
of the Bucks practice squad per source.
He has played in 82 NFL games, 65 starts, and has 11 career picks.
Some experienced depth for Pittsburgh after the Joey Porter Jr. trade.
Now, the reason I say this is a steal, I actually really don't mind Sean Murphy Bunting, and
I've been following him for a while.
I'm sure a lot of you guys are familiar with him.
It's at the very least some depth for a team that desperately needs it, right?
Like this team desperately needs depth.
They need to be able to continue to get defensive players at this point, and I think going after
Sean Murphy Bunting is probably the right call, and we'll dive into his stats and all
that in a minute.
But you can see here, he played in the same scheme as Dean for the majority of his career.
Different players, obviously I'm talking about Jamel Dean, but Steelers just needed experience
to a depleted cornerback room.
When you talk about experience and guys that actually have potential to be like, he has
his flaws, right?
I'm not going to sit here and say he's a perfect quarterback, but he's had some very solid
seasons for, you know, for multiple teams.
I mean, he had three picks just the last time that he played, and I think for a team that
desperately needs somebody, I still think they should make a trade for some more defensive
help.
But if this is what you're going to go with for now, I don't think it's a bad option at
all.
And you can see here with the full 53 man roster, the Steelers will need to make another
corresponding move.
They could waive or release a player.
Maybe Derek Harmon hits the IR, which I'm hoping isn't the case.
Sean Murphy Bunting is a seventh year veteran and a former second round pick.
Murphy Bunting will add depth while Jamel Dean could miss time after aggregating or
aggravating, sorry, his ankle injury.
So keep in mind, he is probably going to miss the next two weeks, Jamel Dean.
So Murphy Bunting could be, you know, that third string guy or even start, depending
how high they view him. But also, again, it is a veteran.
You bring in somebody who has experience.
He was teammates with Jamel Dean through 2019 and 2022, has started the
majority of the games he played.
And I think he's actually very interesting, you know, cornerback.
And there's one tidbit about him that I actually think will make him fit very, very
well, which I'll dive into in just a in just a second here.
But before we do get into that, ladies and gentlemen, you can trade on whether or not
you think the Steelers are going to make the playoffs this year.
You can do so on Kalshi.
If you trade twenty five dollars, you will win over ninety dollars, ladies and
gentlemen. And on Kalshi, which this video is brought to you by, you're trading
directly against other users, not the house of traditional sportsbooks.
You're buying yes or no contracts and the outcome of events across sports, politics
or even the weather.
And you can see one of the many examples on screen right here.
So if you're interested in trying out Kalshi, use the link in the description in
the pinned comment down below and use code Digest NFL.
Yes, Digest NFL to get fifty five dollars added to your account instantly when you
trade your first twenty five dollars.
So make sure to check out Kalshi once again, link in the pinned comment and the
description down below.
And thank you once again to Kalshi for sponsoring this video.
And let's dive further into the move that they made.
So he's yet to appear in a game since the twenty twenty four regular season.
And so at the start of twenty twenty six on Tampa Bay's practice squad, and we
think back to twenty twenty four, I mentioned the last year that he's played.
He played fifteen games, fifty two tackles, three picks.
So I still think it'll be Dale and Everett and Asante Samuel Junior starting on
Sunday. Like I don't think they should go as far as replacing Dale and Everett.
But let's not forget, Dale and Everett is a rookie, right?
And he's been off to a hot start.
He got a little bit of flack there, even though it wasn't his fault.
It was actually Rayshawn Jenkins' fault a couple games or last game.
But you now have some veteran leadership behind Dale and Everett,
which not only takes a lot of pressure off the rookie, but allows the rookie
to potentially play a little bit more free.
And, you know, Sean Murphy Bunting, he's going to be around.
He's not going to be, you know, a nervous wreck when he's out there.
And I really, really like it.
And you can see here, while he learns the Pittsburgh system,
the Steelers are still likely to start Asante and Dale and Everett.
Brandon Eccles, Jalen Ramsey and Danico Slaughter ran out the rest of the
cornerback room.
It's a much different looking CB room than the team had anticipated.
And I've been covering the channel now for months and years
heading into the season because he was poached off an opposing team's
practice squad.
NFL rules dictate that Murphy Bunting must occupy a roster spot
for at least three weeks.
So keep that in mind.
That's why I said it's a bit of a steal because they clearly view this guy as.
And again, before you guys leave all the hate comments,
I'm not saying it's a steal because I think he's an amazing, amazing cornerback.
I think out of the options that they had, he's a very serviceable one.
In case you don't know, let's dive into a stat.
So obviously didn't play last year, but the year before,
15 games with three interceptions the year before that, two interceptions,
two interceptions like he will get picks.
He will make plays happen.
It's not like he's old.
He's only 29 years old, should be in his prime.
And had a very good season for the Cardinals.
But also like he gives up a lot of, you know, chunk plays.
Right.
And if you ask the Cardinals and their fans why they, you know,
didn't pursue signably for three years or something like that,
why they didn't, you know, bring him back.
He gives up a lot of chunk plays.
But at this point, I mean, you can't it's
you're kind of playing with house money.
I don't know if that's the right term.
It's not really the right term.
But like if you get any production out of Sean Murphy bunting here,
it will be a success.
And when you look at who actually should be on this team,
you know, it's a far cry from where they were at the start of the season.
But you you add a cornerback now.
Keep in mind, this room is absolutely decimated.
You have a Sante.
You have Dillon Everett.
Who else? I mean, you know, he's probably not going to play.
You have to go slaughter playing.
They can't get to Sean Elliott back soon enough to replace Rashaun Jenkins.
So comment down below what your thoughts are on that.
A few other things before I wrap up the video as well here.
I want to touch on this.
And it was an interesting what if from last game from Alex Azora Steelers
dialing up a place, a shot play after T.J.
Watts forced fumble and takeaway.
DK Metcalf runs past the safety down the scene would have been aggressive.
All game.
Rogers misses him and throw short.
Realize it right after you can see his reaction.
This should have been a TD.
And the reason I bring this up, because this happened
multiple times throughout the game, including on his final game
losing interception.
There were a lot of players like right over the middle that were free.
I don't know if it was I forget who it was, but.
Rogers needs to step up as well.
And there's a lot of talk about the offensive line, which has been brutal,
right, and not giving him enough time to.
I mean, not brutal.
That's a bit of a stretch.
Max, he had a terrible game, but that's OK.
He's a rookie, right?
It's a second game, had a great first game.
Brock Hoffman had a rough game as well.
You're at a point where you need to be able to,
if you're a Rogers, pick them up a little bit.
Like there was a lot of opportunities for the Steelers
to win that game against the Browns.
And their offense looked pretty rough for most of the game there.
And there's the more you review footage, the more you can maybe
start to point to Aaron Rogers having to step up a little bit.
But also there's a lot of blame to go around.
I saw a lot of guys in the comments on my video about Brian Thomas Jr.
talking about, you know, Jeremy Bernard, give him more reps.
I don't know if he's fully ready.
And there's been a lot of talk about him going only half,
you know, effort on routes.
And, you know, with Aaron Rogers, you kind of have to go full effort.
You never know where he's going to throw it.
I don't know, man, it is a
it's a bit of a wild one.
It is a bit of a wild one at this point.
So we're seeing Mike McCarthy, Aaron Rogers, buttheads.
We're seeing Omar Khan, the front office, start to lose it a little bit.
Nick Herbig, who they extended, paid, could have paid Joey Porter Jr.
That money has been he hasn't been horrible at all.
And I want people, people who call him horrible, haven't watched the games.
He hasn't really been giving a ton of opportunity when he has,
you know, they didn't really have been using them necessarily properly.
But he also hasn't shown a full ability to, you know,
do what he did last year.
So I think for, you know, Nick Herbig.
He's going to have to show
this upcoming season that, OK, still has paid me
100 million dollars over four years, that is similar to what
Joey Porter Jr. would have got.
Obviously, it's a little bit less right at 25 million a year.
But if you're Nick Herbig, you have to go out there and have some pride, right?
Start to play.
And if you're the defensive coordinator, Patrick Graham, figure it out.
Figure it out with Herbig.
He's supposed to be one of your best defensive players.
There's been a lot of rumblings lately about a potential Alex Hythman trade.
So it's going to be interesting.
I want to have a lot of your thoughts are.
