The Steelers received a 2028 second round pick and a 2027 conditional sixth round pick This is more than I think More than worthy of what I would give up for Joey Porter jr I talked a lot about this trade and how second rounder it felt like a lot and I still kind of am on the fringe But the more and more I look at what JPJ brings to this team and what he is going to do Especially for a cornerback room that is absolutely taken aback I mean there is injuries galore on this team and now you are able to you know Fix that in a lot of ways you look at what's injured PJ Locke. Well, he hooker Maybe not be back this week Siobhan rebels injury to Ransinger Jalen Thompson is injured your entire secondary It's at a bad spot And so you're able to now add Joey Porter jr. It becomes a seat. They're well aware of Porter's desire for a new contract That is something that is very much known by the Dallas Cowboys However, there's not expected right now that Joey Porter jr. Comes with this, you know Contract already in attack from tech we have it here from Nick Harris told conversations ramped up since the teams are turned from Brazil and there is not a Long-term deal in place as part of this deal So from now on out there's gonna be a lot of talk of is an extension coming for Joey Porter jr What exactly does that extension look like there's just so much that can go down with that But I think what's interesting about this is now you have two former Steelers that you have treated for looking for contract extensions One of them is gonna have to get it and I don't know if Joey Porter jr Is gonna come here and want to play without the contract extension for George Pickens though? He's on a franchise tag. So like you're probably not if you extend JPJ, you're not gonna extend George Pickens in this offseason. So Man, it really does become a lot with the financials of it all but right now obviously I do just want to focus on the player and What he brings to this team and that is certainly a very big boost to the cornerback room First of all who has been decimated secondly, it's Christian Parker's defense. It was a DB's coach This has got to be a great gift for him And now you got to see I know it's you know What Thursday morning about time you're seeing this potentially Wednesday night for some of you You don't have a lot of practices before him more time to get ready for Houston Maybe doesn't play this weekend, but I'm still very you know intrigued to see how he looks when he does make his debut Now the whole thing about him being injured is obviously something that's going to be talked about He was taken out this past week the past two weeks. He was not active for personal reasons He did have you know back injury flare-ups and all that stuff But right now it's gonna be a discussion on you know Figuring out what his health actually is was his health more related to the contract discussions not being happy or satisfied Well that Steelers have got a given them in a lot of ways 14 games this year for in 2025 I had one sack one INT has really really solid PFF grades from last year as well 67.6 in the overall grade but the coverage great is what I really like to see and that's been a struggle time for this Cowboys team 74.1. He was the 20th best cornerback last year in terms of coverage again You see the stats there again one interception two pressures 29 receptions allowed across 45 tackles. He's really really solid I think that there is a lot of people who like, you know, he wants to bond with her spoon money He wants Christian Gonzalez money. I don't know that he's that level. I think he's relatively close I think he's right there with them in terms of you know What what he probably expects for a contract value but in terms of the actual value that he provides in the field I'd say he's probably a little over but that being said we do know what? What at least he's asking for in terms of a contract and it is the top of what the Cowboys could potentially offer him at this moment And for that we go to Mike Florio of NBC Sports who has this and it was from about a couple days ago I'm maybe maybe even more than we've been weeks ago at this point but It was reported by Steelers Depot Gary Dulac that the of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that the Steelers had offered Joey Porter jr A contract that would have paid him just north of 27 million dollars this season Ultimately, he does decide to turn that down I think at this point in time you got a look at is that going to be something he expects and will not play with out here in Dallas is that something that he is going to still harp on and say that I am not going to step on the field because as much as I want to focus on the player and how good of an addition this is for the Dallas Cowboys and how I really do think if the Cards fall in the right place for the Cowboys, which it really could this is a steal for them The hard part is we don't know what that contract is If it's above 30 million that makes it a little harder for me to say that this is like You know the best trade ever and and all this and that so I'm obviously intrigued to see what we can kind of go after, you know and maybe there's if there's there more coming after the fact of this but Definitely a good time to be a Cowboys fan really excited to see this and lots of big big changes over the past You know two years obviously traded away Micah Parsons at Brian Schottenheimer Then you've got Quinton Williams GP GP 3 and now Joey Porter jr.
