Welcome back and we have an important shout out on this Sunday morning.
Happy 100th birthday
to the Highway 55 Fort Snelling Mendota Bridge. Yes, right there,
the bridge spanning over the Minnesota River
was built from 1924 to 1926 and it opened to traffic
on November 8th, 1926.
So 100 years ago today, an event is being held at the Fort Snelling
Visitor Center tomorrow beginning at 10.
10 a.m. Kind of makes me want to drive across
and give it a little beep beep today. So happy birthday. All right.
Once again, that's one of many things happening in our week ahead.
Here's a look at some more.
Spring Lake Park will be doing a blind draw to pick
who is the city's next mayor.
The race in Spring Lake Park is currently tied.
Each candidate received 1,401 votes on Election Day,
and that means on Monday, they'll basically
be picking a name out of a hat.
The city administrator says both candidates
told him they'd request a recount if they lose.
That recount wouldn't happen until November 17th.
Tuesday, the beacon at Split Rock Lighthouse will once again be lit.
To commemorate the sinking of the freighter SS Edmund Fitzgerald
and all the other vessels lost on the Great Lakes.
A ceremony reading the names of the lives lost will start
at 4.15 with the beacon shining bright until 6 p.m.
Wednesday, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs
is hosting the state's official Veterans Day event in Duluth.
Veterans, families, and community members are invited to thank
and celebrate and honor all veterans.
This official event will take place
at the Duluth National Guard Training and Community Center.
Friday, the 13th, the Dayton's Holiday Market returns
for its sixth glorious year.
More than 100 local makers will be selling various items
while shoppers enjoy food and drinks.
The markets will be open until Christmas.
And that's some of what's happening in your week ahead.
