Thanks for checking out my latest video - In this one I have a short hunt in fields, woodland and around a lake making some decent finds along the way. And the silver streak continues - Get in there! Today I was using the XP Deus with 9" coil and program was GM Power with 12khz and 'tracking' ground balance (although I had real problem mentioning that on film as you will see from outtakes at the end). This one also has a short section in to put to rest anyone's fears about ruining valuable coins in the tumbler, more from Malcolm and Moira's great collection and a bit of silliness about coin shooting. Check out tvpresenter4history's channel here and tell him Pondguru sent you: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNhe4PqrnEeIDjBnu-bimuw Do me a favour and if you comment on any of his videos or channel tell him Pondguru sent you. James is a great guy. Remember I will never ask you for donations for the channel or towards postage cost of anything which is being given away - beware of channels that do want viewers (not just winners) to donate money for shipping / postage cost as they are simply scamming you for profit. There's also another tumbler video coming soon too so it will be interesting to see what comes out from my latest batch from the 'Bag of shame'. Big thanks to everyone who takes time to watch my videos as although I would still make them if nobody was watching it really is great to have the support of the detecting community and see viewers enjoying the videos I put out there. Music in this video is 'Hedonistic gene' by Inkubus Sukkubus. Good Luck and Happy Hunting to all viewers - IF IN DOUBT, DIG IT OUT.
Welcome to another metal detecting video.
This is a different part of the same site
that I've been hunting for the last two or
three videos.
I've made some cracking finds there
and every time I've been up I've found silver but will
that silver streak continue?
Keep watching and you'll find out.
Now although I do put this in the video description I thought I might
as well just say it because
I still get asked what machine I'm using
and what settings I've got on that machine.
It's an XP Deus.
I'm using the 9-inch coil, I've got it set on GM power, I've changed
the tracking to, not the tracking, I've changed the ground balance
to tracking, so when I go over an area that's good ground,
it increases the sensitivity, when I go over an area with really poor,
mineralised, horrible ground with a lot of trash in it,
it reduces the sensitivity, it keeps it running nice.
So basically, GM Power.
The ground balance is set at tracking
and the frequency is reduced to 12 kilohertz which is a good
all-round frequency. It gets a little bit extra depth compared
to the 18 kilohertz as well,
apparently. Get in there, Dave, this one's for you.
Not silver, chromium plated, absolute crap.
This one was reading as a very noisy 87.
Ooh, I was just about to say, I think it's a modern penny
But it's an old penny.
Nineteen thirty eight penny.
Quite near the top as well. That gave a cracking signal.
Right, I've just had a penny from here.
Believe it or not, you can't even see where I've been.
But that lifts up. That's my flap.
Just had the penny from there. There's another signal in here.
Looks like a coin ball. It's reading 80 odd.
So I'm hoping it's something nice. Let's have a look.
Oh, it's a half penny.
An old ship halfpenny from 1959.
That's in pretty good nick as well.
You do often find that near one coin, you'll get another one.
So always have a good look around when you find a coin.
This one's reading late 70s, early 80s.
Oh, hello.
Very black coin in there.
Bunhead Victorian penny from, I think, 1889.
Although I'm not sure.
Could be 79.
Very battered.
This one's reading late 80s, early 90s.
Oh, and it's a massive lump of lead.
Yeah, it was a little bit windy around that side of the permission,
so because of the wind and because of the fact that it was quite wet,
it was starting to rain, I decided to retreat into a wood.
I went in there just to hide from the rain and the wind,
and amazingly, I managed to find something in there as well.
Yes, I am creeping about in a wood because it's windy and it's wet,
so I'm seeking a little bit of shelter here.
There's something reading 82 in here,
right on the top.
So the chances are this isn't going to be anything fantastic.
Threw me
for a
minute
there.
Yeah, it's actually a George the Fifth shilling.
But it's totally discoloured.
Probably because of all the acidy pine needles and everything.
And just the general muck.
I'll give it a quick rub and let you have a look.
There you go, that looks a little bit better.
1922 shilling.
And I'm super pleased with that.
Because this is a really quick hunt.
I'm in an area where I wouldn't normally have gone.
But I just fancied a change and up pops silver yet again.
Get in there and not three feet from where I found
that shilling is uh oh I was gonna say
it's a musket ball but it's a fishing weight I thought it
was a musket ball definitely a
fishing weight. Whilst I was in the wood I decided I might
as well go around the lake
and see what's there so here's the results of that.
I'm around the side of the lake now
and that's a half reasonable find it's a little discoloured.
You'd stick that down the fish's throat and twist it,
pull it out, that would get the hook out of its throat.
Okay, what's this one?
Oh, another fishing weight.
I've had about six of them, all different shapes and sizes.
Another very loud signal, reading 91, and that's a modern two pence.
Finding all sorts of weird and wonderful things along this damn wall.
What have we got? It's a penny from 19...
64 or 04? 64. It's almost coppery as well.
That would clean up pretty well.
Great signal here,
reading 81. My old nemesis,
modern halfpenny.
Oh, that's a shame. I thought it was another sixpence.
Well, it is another sixpence, but it's not a silver one.
1963. Well, another dig, another silver. Get in there.
So all in all another great successful hunt albeit a very short one.
Now one place I didn't go on this hunt
is the same area where I found the gold ring,
silver ring and two silver coins from my last hunt
and that might seem a bit strange to people
but when I get a good site and I'm the only person
who's got permission on it,
if I've had success in one area I'll try a different area.
I won't hammer that one good area
Because all too often on a site you get one good area, you hammer it,
and then you tend not to pick up anything from the rest of the site,
you're kind of scratching a bit.
So I like to save somewhere where I know will produce good finds
for hunting at a later date.
Often when I've been to other sites and I haven't found much for two
or three hunts in a row, I'll come back to that good site and I know
for a fact I'm in with a good chance of finding something half decent.
Okey-dokey, that was the hunt. I think it's time to pick a winner
for the giveaway that I announced in the last detecting video,
which was for the Minelab Pro-Find 25 cover.
I'm going to do that exactly the same way as I did the previous one,
which was for the Garrett cover.
So best of luck to all involved. Here we go.
Okay, here's the video where I was doing
the giveaway of the Minelab Pro-Find 25 cover.
It's entitled, Metal Detector Finds Gold, Silver and a Satanic Goat.
So anybody who started their comment with competition
on there has a chance of winning that cover.
Going over to the right hand side of the screen,
I'm going to bounce this cursor up and down.
That'll cause the screen to go up and down, I'll stop it, travel along,
and if anybody's comment starts with competition, they will win.
I can't see what's going on here, it's going too fast,
but I'm going to shut my eyes anyway.
And stop it.
Go along there.
Wow, yes, first time.
Get in there.
Jason S.
I'll just zoom in so you can see that without any edits or cuts.
There
you go.
Jason S.
Competition.
He is the winner.
I'll put a reply to his comment on here and I'll also send him
a private message asking for his address and I'll get that sent out.
Congratulations to you, I'm going to put a message on
that video that I've scanned through the comments for
and I'll also send you a private message,
just send me your address, I'll get that
sent off to you, no problem at all. Here's a little bit
more from Malcolm and Moira's collection
that they've built up over the last
Oh god, 40 years of detecting, maybe it's more.
I'm sure they started in the 70s,
I was born in the 70s, I'm 40, no, tell a lie, I'm 41,
so I think it's from at least 40 years of detecting.
Here's another case from their excellent collection, True Detectorists.
I was the lover and saviour,
I offer my soul as a bride.
Your quill is corrupt with a kiss of desire,
that would burn with the fire of delight.
I love you,
I hate you,
taste the
shanty
sweeter,
each
time is
reckless
and gives
a tear,
destiny's
Lovely finds case from Malcom and Moira, absolutely excellent.
Two things to say before I sign off, one is with regard
to the tumbler that I've been using to clean up the old coins,
the coins that I'm putting in there are crusty,
absolutely knackered, totally worthless,
I'm putting them in there just so I can see what they were.
There's no real way of cleaning them up to make them worth anything.
So I have had a few messages
from people saying I'll ruin the value of them.
They have no real value.
I'm not putting silver in there.
I'm not putting anything of any value in there.
Just things of interest that come out of my bag of shame
that I want to see and get a good look at
just to find out whether they're Georgian,
Victorian, Edwardian or what they are.
So don't worry about it ruining the value
of anything that I put in there.
Second thing is, I've just got to thank everybody
who's been watching the videos and subscribing.
I think I'm coming up to almost 30,000 subscribers now,
which is absolutely phenomenal.
And I'm getting quite a lot of views
on the videos as well, which is also great.
It really does mean a lot to me
to have true detectorists watching these videos.
Towards the end of this month...
I've arranged to go up to, actually, what little hair I do have
is standing up on the back of my neck thinking about this.
This is, to me, this is absolutely excellent.
And to everybody that knows me,
they'll regard this actual site as one of the holy grails locally
because nobody's been able to get permission.
I'm in a really fortunate position that I know somebody well.
Who is a special sort of a character.
And I don't mean he's special in that he arrived on a short bus.
He's in a good position of power within that local community.
He's well known, he's well trusted.
I'm well known and well trusted by him.
So the pair of us are going to go up
and hunt around this remarkable site.
I can't really say too much about it
but it's it's got a deep history of border
raids, battles, a huge fair.
In fact one of the sites we'll be hunting is between two
market towns where there was a toll house,
a place where people used to camp
either side of that toll house.
It's really exciting and I can't wait to go
up there. So that's really
a good one to be looking out for.
It may turn out to be absolute crap,
the finds may be well out of our reach, but I hope not.
And I hope to keep bringing you quality videos with a little bit
of information, and I love it when you appreciate them, I really do.
I have just ordered an 11-inch coil for the Deus, so hopefully
by the time I get up to this awesome site, I'll have the 11-inch coil.
So I'll give that a try, and I'll give my thoughts on that as well.
Thanks for watching.
This is Ponguru, after the show.
I've been asked a question by quite a few people
which is about coin shooting, so
this is just a short extra part on the video
to explain about coin shooting,
and I didn't want to make it into a separate video,
I thought I would just give you this
as an extra, so please enjoy.
A few weeks ago I had a private message from a guy in the UK
who was having great problems on his supposed coin shooting sites,
and as we all know coins are often found
in the greatest concentration in parks.
Around old mansions and so on where there's been a lot of people
and there's also a lot of trash.
So I tried to give him tips
and all he was finding was small lumps of lead.
The other guys he was out with were just finding small lumps of lead
and he knew there was coins
there so I tried to give him tips none of them seemed to work
so I asked him to send me some
footage of what he was doing to see
if I could work out what was going wrong and see if I could
offer him some extra tips to try
and allow him to find some coins and anyway this is the footage.
Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang.
As you can see he's made a total balls of it.
You've got to use the right tools for the job.
Now, if you take it upon yourself to use the wrong tool for the job,
you're going to find yourself thrown out
of your local metal detecting club.
And as we know, once you get thrown out of a club,
you ain't getting back in.
Use the right tool.
This one is designed to find metal.
This one is designed to fire metal through
the air very quickly at something we intend to kill.
It will not help you find coins.
Just check out some of my previous videos
because I've found hundreds of coins on film.
So there you go.
Always use the right tool for the job, no matter what the task is.
And when you're coin shooting, use a good metal detector.
Otherwise, at best,
you're going to be digging up a load of trash to get to those coins.
Best if you've got one that discriminates well
so that you can choose exactly what to dig.
This is Pond Guru.
After the show,
this is where I swear loudly into the camera then edit it out.
So, GM Power.
Oh, God, my memory's terrible.
I've just said it as well.
Oh, damn it.
What was it, man?
Sensitivity.
So, GM Power, the ground balance is set at tracking,
and the sensitivity, not sensitivity, man.
So, GM Power is the setting that I've got it on.
Ground balance.
I'm
How are you, man?
starting
Come on, work.
to
speak
So, GM power, the ground balance is set at tracking,
now.
and the frequency mic, frequency, not sensitivity, frequency.
So, so, right,
my old nemesis,
modern halfpenny.
Now it was a little bit windy around the part of the,
now it was a little bit windy around the, that's bollocks.
This one was reading.
Oh, wind man, wind.
That's a bit of a bummer.
It gets a little bit extra depth
compared to the 18 kilohertz as well, apparently.
And not three freak, oh.
Get in there.
I feel like I'm just about to start filming
some dodgy manifesto before I go on a mad rampage.
You could always start creeping around in woodland,
and maybe it's just fake you find.
A lot of people do it.
Get in there.
