The UK economy has been hit by a DOUBLE SHOCK as the Bank of England raises interest rates and warns that inflation could climb towards 5%, threatening another painful cost-of-living crisis for millions of British households.

After years of financial pressure, many people across Britain had been hoping for lower mortgage rates, falling inflation and an improvement in living standards. But the latest economic developments suggest the opposite could happen.

The Bank of England has raised interest rates from 3.75% to 4%, its first increase in more than three years, while forecasting that inflation could reach 4.8% in 2027. And in a more severe energy-price scenario, inflation could rise above 6%.

Higher global energy prices, expensive borrowing, weak economic growth and pressure on household incomes are creating an increasingly difficult situation for the British economy.

The UK is facing a difficult economic balancing act. Higher interest rates may help control inflation, but they can also weaken spending, investment and economic growth.
